After talking with some of my friends who have seen the recent Star Trek Sequel and with everything that we've heard about Zod's characterization in MOS, I'm not sure if it's just me, but it feels like there's a lot of similarities between Zod's character and the one that Edward plays in STID.

I can understand the concern over the lack of marketing, but didnt the tracking info posted a while back state that about 85% of people were aware of the movie coming out? If WB is getting the same #'s maybe they're just waiting for one push right before it opens.

The following billion dollar movies I thought were worse than Iron Man 3.

Pirates 3
Transformers 3
Avatar
Titanic
Alice in Wonderland
TDKR
The Avengers

I liked the last two films but less than Iron Man 3.

How is breaking a billion for a reboot not a record?

The weekend of this film I see crazed fanboys predicting it to open with 250mil.

Not to mention the plot of this film doesn't have to do with real estate! Bomb confirmed!

Is easily better than most of those, but better than Avengers is very debatable. TDKR is overrated by some critics and fans, just because it has a serious tone doesn't excuse the plotholes and silliness like many do.

Yes, that must explain why fans and critics like it, because of how serious it is.

I could be missing a very obvious answer but it's late and I'm tired, but has any first entry in a superhero film trilogy ever grossed a billion? (and no Avengers doesn't count)

im talking about it in the context of other "event" pictures, if we are narrowing things down to reboots sure but i dont see it breaking avatar's record or break opening weekend or day records even though i really really hope it does.i think will make its money in the long term with word of mouth.

No, though Spider-Man 1 is the closest.

I'll take DMC before both of those quite easily, but that is just me. AWE is the best Pirates sequel for me. Just crazy enough to be fun.

Film is subjective. Many critics and fans like/enjoy the film despite it's flaws. It's got nothing to do with it having a serious tone. One person's unmet expectations doesn't make it a bad experience for everyone else.

I See Spidey didn't love STID that much. But I've seen quite a few people say it's the Summer movie to beat.

A lot of people hate those two films, and I see where all the criticism comes from and I agree with most of it. Yet I can't help but enjoy these films every damn time.
