Well anyway as I posted in the old thread, the positive with the Knicks is that they're not trapped in cap hell for a long time as they were for most of the last decade. Their big contracts are only for 2 more years.

I expect Melo to re-sign and finish his career in NY. The only problem is that he'll be on the wrong side of 30 by then. Perhaps he'll take a smaller deal so the Knicks can make a massive splash in free agency and get him another superstar or 2 like the Heat did. The Knicks are stuck with Stat until midway through 2014-15 season when they can deal his expiring contract.

I'm hoping that if JR Smith walks, the Knicks can somehow get OJ Mayo, who is going to opt out of his deal in Dallas and go free agent.

Wouldn't that ultimately end up giving you the same problem you had with JR Smith? The guys great when he's on but when he's not....he can really drag your team down.

I don't think he's as a streaky shooter as Smith and is better defensively. Definitely an upgrade imo.

OJ Mayo is terrible in clutch situations. Take a look at his FTs and turnovers during the last 5 minutes of a game and OT. He gets shook. Dallas fans hate him for it.

This is true.

J.R is generally more of an impact guy as well, yes he has lower lows, but his highs are considerably higher.

Mayo would be More likely to seal properly and get that rebound J.R slept on and gave away in the first half of that last game, but he's less likely to give Melo significant help when he really needs it as well.

That said, he's still probably the best two possibly up for grabs. (I guess, who else is out there? )Which isn't saying much for the rest of the two's.

Unless you're a legi shot for Howard or Paul this is a pretty s*** year to be cashed up and hunting free agents.

Key moments in the upcoming calendar are watching to see who overpays Josh Smith and Mo Williams.

Mayo for the Knicks would sign the death knell for Kidd's career if his post season shooting didn't do that already.

Really he's still pretty good value for them, yes he disappeared, but if the Knicks cut everyone who "disappeared" they'd have a pretty empty locker room.

I figured one or both would stay at home and be overpaid.

I don't have enough faith in the Bucks learning from their Michael Redd mistake.

In fairness, if the Bucks don't pay, they don't get talent. Pretty straight forward. It's not like people are lining up to go to Wisconsin.

Brett Favre will be the Bucks opening day point guard and ESPN will run with that as their main story for 3 months...

I have a feeling Kidd is going to retire anyway. I heard something interesting today on the radio though. I guess he's been at odds with management throughout the year. I found it odd considering there was rumbling at the end of the season that he would retire at years and and become an assistant for Woodson.

So he's been at odds with Knicks management all year and his plan is to stop playing and to move into a position where he'd have to deal with them on a daily basis?

Its certainly an interesting decision if its true...

Monta Ellis would be great in a Jamal Crawford role as a sixth man off the bench that just looks to score. He's not a lead guard for a contending team, but I think he could be better than Crawford/JR in the same role. But he's looking to get paid probably and start for a team. Detroit has tons of capspace and needs a 2 guard. They seem desperate enough to offer him a lot of money.

I think he didn't want as big a role as he had at times.
