James, Durant, Duncan lead 2012-13 All-NBA first team

Official Release Posted May 23, 2013 1:38 PM

NEW YORK -- The Miami Heat's LeBron James, the 2012-13 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player and winner of four of the previous five MVP awards, highlights the 2012-13 All-NBA First Team. James was the only player to receive all 119 First Team votes.

Joining James on the First Team are Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs, Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers, and Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers. For Bryant, his 11th First Team nod ties him with Hall of Famer Karl Malone for the most such selections. Bryant had been tied at 10 with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Bob Cousy, Michael Jordan, Bob Pettit and Jerry West.

Pacing the Heat to a league-best and franchise-record 66-16 mark, James was the only player in the NBA to lead his team in scoring (26.8 ppg), rebounding (8.0 rpg) and assists (7.3 apg). He shot a career high from the field (.565) and from three-point range (.406). Additionally, James led the NBA in score differential (+9.5) and player impact estimate (22.1 percent), according to NBA.com/Stats, in the process becoming the youngest player in NBA history to post eight different 2,000-point seasons, and the youngest player to reach the 20,000-point plateau.

Bryant, an All-NBA First Team selection for the eighth straight season, scored 2,133 points, averaging 27.3 points. This season, he moved past Wilt Chamberlain for fourth on the NBA's all-time scoring list. Additionally, Bryant eclipsed the 2,000-point mark in a single season for the eighth time in his 17-year NBA career, in the process becoming just the fourth player in NBA history to score 2,000 points in a season at age 34 or older, joining Alex English, Jordan and Malone, each of whom did so twice.

Duncan earns his 10th First Team selection and first since 2006-07. In his 16th NBA campaign, Duncan averaged 17.8 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.65 blocks, ranking third overall in the latter. He shot .502 from the floor and a career-best .817 from the free throw line.

In earning his fourth All-NBA First Team selection, Durant averaged 28.1 points while shooting .510 from the field, .416 from distance and .905 from the free throw line. With those percentages, Durant became just the second player in NBA history (Larry Bird; 1986-87) to average 28-plus points while going .500/.400/.900 during the year. Additionally, Durant's field goal and free throw percentages represented career bests.

Paul, an All-NBA First Team selection for the third time, had a league-best 4.26 assist-to-turnover ratio; he had 13 games in which he dished at least 11 assists while committing no more than one turnover. The 2013 All-Star Game MVP, Paul averaged 16.9 points, ranked second in assists with 9.7 apg and paced the league in steals with 2.41 spg.

The All-NBA Second Team consists of guards Tony Parker of the Spurs and Russell Westbrook of the Thunder, forwards Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks and Blake Griffin of the Clippers, and center Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies.

The All-NBA Third Team includes the Houston Rockets' James Harden and the Heat's Dwyane Wade at guard, the Indiana Pacers' Paul George and the Golden State Warriors' David Lee at forward, and the Lakers' Dwight Howard at center.

The All-NBA Teams were chosen by a panel of 119 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. The media voted for All-NBA First, Second and Third Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis. Below are the results of the voting for the 2012-13 All-NBA Teams, with First Team votes in parentheses. The balloting was tabulated by the independent

I saw this article earlier and I gotta say, I don't know much about Hibbert, but he sure seems like a great, well taught guy.

I like the Pacers in general. They have some real cringe-worthy offensive possessions from time to time, but they all seem like solid guys for the most part. Hansborough is an irritant to anyone who's not a fan of the team he's on but I still have respect for him. In general Vogel's not a bad coach but the mistakes he does make are BIG. I like most of their roster and like the games of theirs we do see... Even if I'll wince a couple times every game watching them.

I had to watch the final play a second time before I actually saw it yesterday. I was so stunned and dumbfounded over what I was watching that the photons were bouncing to my retinas but it wasn't translating any of it because 100 percent of my brain was still too busy trying to make sense of what it had seen in Hibbert getting pulled TWICE. On the defensive end of the floor.

I heard a stat on Around the Horn today that when Hibbert was in the game (30+ minutes or so) LeBron only attempted to drive the lane 3 times.

Bad job by Vogel.

Thoughts of the night:

1) TNT's quality of broadcast is so much better than ESPN's.

2) I love watching the Pacers play. It is old school, unselfish basketball with a heavy defensive focus. The Spurs vs. The Pacers would make a very interesting finals, because it wouldn't be flashy but it would be great basketball. But for that very reason, David Stern would hate it.

3) LeBron just cost Miami the game. If I were Indiana I would be VERY afraid. Any time LeBron costs his team a game, he scores about 40-50 points the next game.

4) Great two game start to the Eastern finals. Should be a great series. If anyone is going to beat the Heat this year, I think it is the Pacers, maybe the Spurs. Their physical and defensive style is the Heat's kryptonite.

LeBron responded by having a 45 point/15 rebound game in Game 6 and completely dominated. The Pacers just gave LeBron his bulletin board material. He is going to be very dangerous going into Indiana. If there is any team in the league with the defense and physicality to handle that, it is the Pacers....but he will still be bringing his A-game.

Well I hope you're right. Lebron was the most alive I've seen him all season tonight. If not for those two turnovers at the end he would have had a perfect game. Such a waste.

I'm really scared at going into Indy split though. We'll be lucky to come out 2-2 honestly.

Miami had three open threes after taking a 4 point lead late in the 4th they clanked. Came back to bite them because Indy hit their threes tonight. Lebron with a flashback to Cleveland Lebron those last two possessions.

****. Just ****.

People not named LeBron (and Andersen) need to step it up. Plain and simple. Indiana is a good defensive, but come the bleepity bleep on.

The big difference is that Jordan was effin' Jordan, and Lebron is...well....captain chokes-a-lot.

Jordan had only been playing for 2 months at that point after being away from the game for over a year.

I don't have a working computer at the moment, so I haven't been able to get on as much as I wanted.

Congrats to Miami on beating Chicago. I really hope one day Chicago & Miami meet at full strength in the playoffs. It would be an epic series.

F************CCCKKKKK YOU Derrick Rose!!!!!!!!!!

And if he was there they might have gotten one other game. Maybe.

For sure he woulda thrown the whole team off.

Better to wait until next year, get a training camp in, pre-season, and give the new team time to jell. I mean, if he ain't ready, he ain't ready. Better to air on the side of caution then to go out there trying to be a tough guy and go out like Brandon Roy.

It was the wise choice. Not the popular one, but since when has the popular choice been wise?

Either way, all them mofo's talkin' s**t, gone be on his nuts next year.

I don't care man. His whole team was dying out there and he just sat on the bench when he could have suited up at any time. He shouldn't get a pass for that just because it was convenient for him and there was "no point" in trying.

Really? It was a wise choice to drag out & c*ck tease the fans by saying he might come back this game or that game?

You want to sit out like a b**ch. Say it! Man up! Don't keep it up in the air! Not while your team mates are puking in trash cans & walking on one foot!

This is going to have a horrible ripple affect across the league. Players should not be allowed to have this much power. You are cleared to play. You f**king play!

This isn't about winning or losing. This is about getting out there & going down with the ship. You are suppsedly the "captain", & he just watched the ship sink from the bench.

Rose is weak mentally. That is clear. You think that when he comes back his weak mental attitude is going to suddenly go away? Lol, think again.
