I'm more invested in the Clark here and in 'Smallville' than I was in STM. STM had a great Superman, but a lousy Clark Kent (not 'Clark Kent') in that it rang false. I forgive it though because of the times and them not knowing about the complications that go hand-in-hnad with being an adoptee. But, I couldn't connect because it was odd how 'disneyfied' they made that part even at a very young age it was still very odd. But, as said, I can easily forgive it of that due to the time it came out and move on.
The two main scenes that got me were
1. Laura walking towards the open view of Krypton exploding from its core and she says "Make a better world than ours Kal" Combine that with fantastic violin playing, i almost lost it.
2. The scene that 100% got me was the scene of Clark running around the yard with the red cape *modeled after the fictional team The Smallville Spartans* and having Johnathan see his son like that. Combined with the solo piano riff, i lost it. Great scene. It is always dead silent when that scene plays in the theater. A well constructed scene.

That scene was poetry. Just absolutely beautiful.

I'm expecting another lil one in September, so when Lara is saying things like, "We'll never here him say our names," I couldn't hold back. The music in that scene, alone, brings about tears. I was ensnared in the beginning, my wife, too, and it didn't let go.

I completely agree with the idea that this film is about him becoming Superman rather than him being Superman in MoS. It pretty much is laid out that was the idea throughout the film, "you will give the people of earth...", "do you have any idea how the people on this planet would react..." all questions brought up but not paid off in MoS, why? Because they are the themes of the entire story that has clearly not yet been completed.

In fact I'd be more than happy if this trilogy was all about him becoming the person we all know as Superman (basically the polar opposite of Batman as people seem to see him) not completely comedic but more lighthearted. But Clark has been through a lot of **** and he wont get over it in an hour of story. I think once the people of Earth embrace him and he himself embraces the idea of becoming Superman he should certainly be a more happier person.

In fact I'd love the trilogy to obviously consist of (obviously) Man of Steel then the second to possibly be called The Last Son of Krypton (or something similar, something that shows Clark dealing with the consequences of MoS and his life on Earth, trying to seperate balance his life between the Planet, Family and being Superman whilst obviously still being a million miles from Returns. I think it should also feature an entirely Earth based threat so a good chance for Lex and maybe the Elite, especially as Lex could use the events of MoS to skew the public's opinions of Superman)

And then the final film to simply be called Superman. No :The Movie, simply Superman. Featuring him finally fully accomplish what his father(s) what him to do, him becoming the true protector of Earth. It should also feature another other-worldly threat (Braniac?) as it would give a chance to show great development of Clark with how he deals with this threat against how he dealth with Zod.

After this the character will be fully built and IMO a perfect Superman for the World's Finest or Justice League and not an angst-ridden person who we may see if they were to suddenly shoot into Jl or WF right now.
(posted this in the last thread but got stuck on the final page!)

Just wanted to add though has Snyder/Goyer or whoever actually announced if they planned further than MoS?

I cried 3 times.

1. Pa's death during the tornado.

2. Superman killing Zod.

3. The final flashback with young Clark with the cape.

I almost cried at those three moments listed by X Knight, and when Kal's mother was sending him away and telling him to do good and whatnot.

The only emotional period I had in the movie was Superman punching the crap out of Zod as he tells him, "You think you can threaten my mother?" Sadly, I had already seen the clip on Youtube.

Scenes that effected me, emotional and just really really poignant:

1) Lara saying they'll never get to hear Clark say their names.
2) Lara and Jor seeing the space ship go away.
3)Lara watching Krypton explode.
4) Child Clark being scared in school and Martha needing to come to his aid.
5) Clark asking Jonathan if God did this to him. I don't see this as religious, more a link to the phrase adoptees sometimes get of 'god gave you to us.' And if God did that, he could have also caused the loss that led into that.
6) Clark telling Jonathan he just wants to pretend that he's his son.
7) Jonathan's death.
8) Clark seeing Jor-El and Jor telling him if only Lara could see him.
9) Clark asking why Jor and Lara couldn't come with him.
10) Clark returning home and telling Martha he found his parents.
11) Zod telling the people that Clark isn't one of them and never will be (fear of not really belonging in adoptee family)
12) Jor telling Clark he can save these people.
13) Clark telling Martha she can't be replaced.
14) Superman killing Zod
15) Jonathan watching Clark in the suit
16) "Welcome to the planet" - you may be an alien, but you are still one of us.

A lot really comes from having been through or wondering something similar.

The whole film just really spoke to me on a personal level.

Every since I've had a kid I do it more often. It's like everything I watch can link me to something with my kid that tugs on the heart strings.

When I'm in a movie theater and am about to cry I pull a trick that my dad taught me. I look at my wife, who is always in tears, and fake cry to cover it up.

Here's a question do you think Man of Steel is still going to have big fan support a year from now when we bring it up?

Do you think this is one those films that the fan-boys will eventually turn on? As of now the fan support is pretty strong despite the reviews but is that going to hold upon further reflection and time?

It's actually my favorite movie of all time since it has everything I look for in a movie. Before this I had favorites, but they were all tied and hard to differentiate between. I've had to have literally seen more than 100,000 movies by now despite being 25. So, nothing is really looking to change until possibly MOS2 and even then I'm unsure if that will really be able to top what this film means to me. It just really connected on a deeply personal level.

Really...only time will tell. I know it's fun to speculate, but we really don't know. My thoughts, MOS2 will come out and be great, fans will unite in applause. Further down that road people will all of a sudden say MOS was truly the better one to counteract the universal praise of the sequel. Then MOS3 will come out and there'll be a split, one side saying best movie ever and everyone else saying its mediocre. In other words, The Dark Knight Trilogy effect.

I still don't understand how some people can say that this is like a transformers film, but with a "little more heart".

I mean, not once do I remember any of the transformers film having any good or solid acting from any of its cast members, let alone an memorable score, or even moments that got people as emotional as they did for MOS.

Fewer people will think that MOS is superior if the sequel is a more well-rounded film. HOWEVER, I think that MOS has a similar reception to TDKR rather than Begins. I think the next film will actually be more like Begins in tone, and the third will be like the Dark Knight in terms of construction-only more comic bookish. 2016/17 can't be soon enough!
