Default TMOS Review & Speculation Thread

Here are the "reviews" and how I feel they rank in reputability.
Ybnormal's spoilers: Probably false

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
The movie cut shown was 2 hours and 24 mins

The budget was initially 185 million but later increased to 215 after Snyder showed higher ups his quick story boards ideas of some of the action sequences he had planned for the film. It was later increased to 235 million to account for extra cgi cost and the added 3D

The movie is more massive than you can imagine with huge sets built and amazingly shot action sequences. Snyder makes great use of every penny in the budget. The only thing he can compare this to is the action in the Avengers, although he claims this is better shot and feels more real.

Shannon's Zod is probably going to end up being one of the greatest movie villains on screen

Zod is amazingly well written

Shannon gives the best performance of the movie, and he has just as much screen time as Cavill

Cavill looks really good in the suit. He's a massive presence on screen and he looks like Superman out of a comic book

Zod wears a similar suit but basically all black. He does have a cape when he's first shown wearing his suit, but mostly he's shown without it

Action sequence are epic

The movie goes pretty deep into trying to understand how it would go if these aliens just showed up one day out of nowhere

All Superman powers are on full display, although no freeze breath was mentioned

There is definitely a Nolan feel to the movie

The colors look different on the suit than what we've seen. Not sure if it's cgi enhanced or just the lighting, but its a lot brighter and vibrant looking in the actual movie footage

Nick Jones Jr's tweets: Highly questionable due to lack of details
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
When asked how the Man of Steel compared to the Dark Knight, Nick Jones Jr. tweeted, “Honestly…… BETTER.” When asked to describe the fight scenes, Nick Jones Jr. tweeted, “Watchmen meets Avengers.” In regards to the CGI, Nick Jones Jr. tweeted, “Good stuff. I think his cape was cgi in some scenes. Really looked cool.”

http://comicbook.com/blog/2013/03/02...a-masterpiece/

Joblo's nameless "source": Warmer, but still missing details. Also suspiciously glowing.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
- Imagine a Nolan story with Snyder effects/action.
- It's the best movie of the year.
- There's TONS of action with Superman kicking all kinds of ass in his suit.
- The cape is CG'd most of the time so it can look awesome.
- They have intentionally left out most of the the Super action in trailers to save it.
- It's not nearly as dour and serious as the trailers suggest.
- The movie is complete, minus the 3D post-conversion, which is currently taking place

Poni_boy of Dailyblam: Since it has some criticisms, I would actually think that's a good sign in validity, since adding negative elements risks losing validity, against the other glowing reception. However, he said that critics attended a "family and friends screening." Right :whatever:

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Hearing a good variety of reactions to Man of Steel. Lots of praise for Micheal Shannon & Russell Crowe. Action is plentiful.

Out of the people I've spoken to only one is a pro critic (her reaction was the most negative). Also heard the Zimmer score isn't done yet.

Neogaf's review: Still rather vague, but gives an overall idea of what he claimed the film was like. However his reputability was "broken" when he failed to quote a supposedly quotable villain.

It really does feel like the first time Superman has been done justice in live action.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost...&postcount=233

Gamefaqs: This is the only one I've come close to trusting. The reviewer is critical of Zack Snyder and Superman himself, praises Shannon and Cavill, and provides scene details. The thread's closed unfortunately, so we don't know how he would have answered the final questions. However, the fact that it isn't shut down pretty much is a sign in the negative direction.

Assim Assad's twitter: https://twitter.com/asimaahmad

I am actually sure he watched it. He has a twitpic of the screening room and was a stunt coordinator on TDK. He even had a minor role in Inception. That would explain why he refuses to compare TDK to MOS, in case he wants another job with Nolan. He said Cavill was the best Superman since Reeve, and the movie made him pretty much weep.

This has been lengthy, but I want to hear your thoughts.

We also don't know that Superman kills Zod in the movie but here the debate rages on.

On another note, don't we have an "specific" thread for this very topic of killing or not killing when it comes to Superman?lol

^ I just think having Superman kill would cause the film to trip over its potential. It could reach it elsewhere, but we might end up with a great movie as opposed to a near perfect one :/

If Superman does kill in this new movie, the GA is probably gonna love it. People are gonna say he's no longer a boy scout or he's not boring anymore etc.

We had a thread not sure what happened to it. I think he should kill on accident. Then he questions his role and wonders if Pa Kent was right, that not only the world wasn't ready but that he wasn't ready for the world.

No really, if it plays out as described, I think that's a great climax to this movie. Because think about it, this is a story of Kal-El trying to find his place in the world, where loneliness and isolation are key themes in the film, as he struggles to fit in with the rest of humanity. But then it turns out that there were actually survivors from Krypton and now Kal's entire world is turned upside down. He has to make a decision to either side with his people, or defend Earth. At the end he kills the only other (assuming the rest of Zod's henchmen are dead at the time) surviving Kryptonian, in order to save humanity who've sheltered him his whole life. The weight of that decision has got to be so overwhelming to him, it's indescribable.

I'm sorry but an ending like this fits so well with the theme of this movie. Some of you may not like it, and that's understandable, but I really think people need to give it a chance here. God forbid we see the guardian of humanity make extremely difficult decisions and express heavy emotions afterwards.
And God forbid Superman shows mercy and compassion by locking his people up instead of outright killing them.

As said, it really depends on the context. It could be done in an acceptable manner. But I'd like to see him avoid killing, at least this early. Allow him to uphold that rule. Don't play the moral condundrum thing as it was done in the Batman series.

Plus, it could be something discussed by people. How he showed mercy to his own people, wasn't willing to kill. Could be something that's upheld and tested by opponents such as Lex. Heck, you could even do the Elite storyline.

I think it was called "Zod dead or alive" LOL..

Here's the Hype's consensus.

As far as Doomsday, it's more like Superman's killing an angry bear. And he always comes back

And the forum thread as well.

It's kind of depressing to think at times that we live in a age where people look at "killing" to be cool and not boring.

clearly, they are a dangerous bunch, too.

why not just off them and be done with the threat??

in the future, Lex will ( most likely ) prove to be a dangerous foe. perhaps he too will be responsible for countless crimes and/or deaths.

why not snap his neck??

where do you draw the line?

Not endorising Superman killing per se, I’m a pacifist Supe fan wherever posssible, but if he did so, Lex could utilise the moment as one of his genuine fears, as you outline here. Apprehension about the future.

Indeed. I think killing would establish Superman as the ultimate force not to be messed with, at an expense to his upbringing.. and his fans.. and the comics. So yeah, he shouldn't kill.

Plus, did making Batman not kill the Joker in "TDK" make him any less cool? No, it didn't.

Superman already knows that he has enough to go up against from those within civilization that are distrustful of him. If he were to kill someone in such a cold blooded way, then people would be even more afraid of him, wondering that if he could do that to Zod, what's to stop him from doing that to them.

It only takes on act of violence, despite it being supposedly done in the name of good, to start a person down a path where they'll become the very thing, if not worse, that they were fighting against.

Though I have to admit, the fact that we're getting this scene (assuming it's not cut)

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

Only serves to motivate Kal-El to not kill, or at the very least, become incorruptible.

Well given that people are saying that Superman supposedly "snaps" Zod's neck, that's pretty brutal to say the least.lol And it's not like they could pull the "it was an accident" thing like they did with Bruce and Harvey at the end of "TDK". Superman would have to deliberately have that "intent to kill" mindset in order for Zod's neck to be snapped.

^ Hypothetically. I'm sure that in real life, there are people who have killed intruders in self-defense and never have to worry about that again. And that's movie-talk right there. However, the TDK trilogy was full of that type of dialog, so I feel like Superman should have an even STRONGER code than Nolan's Batman, who seemed to try to avoid direct killing..until the screenwriters forgot a better way to close the storylines of most of his rogues gallery.

Yeah, it does sound pretty brutal. If this is true, I can only guess the events that lead up to it. If the Phantom Zone portal closes, and it's one on one with Zod, who is as mad as ever, and options become thin. Zod beaten down, but still refuses to come quietly. Superman wants the no killing ideology as much as anyone, and possibly achieved this with all the other Kryptonians, but "if you want to stop me you'll just have to kill me." Zod egging him on to be 'corrupted'. It happens with Doctor Who with The Master. The Doctor feels alone and wants The Master to settle down and learn from each other, but The Master always pushes the boundaries, much to The Doctor's sadness.
