Well, I guess it's time to say goodbye to this thread.

EDIT: slightly too late.

You stay on the boards six months after the movie's release when fewer people are lurking and you start seeing the same "this is greatest" go to "yeah, I saw the flaw it but I was so hyped I didn't want to admit it at the time."

It's weird stuff. Not that they hate the movie now. Just that the poster doesn't want to admit to everyone else.
Exactly. Fanboy review can't be relied on. They r super biased. I gave a 8.5 to SR

This got eaten by thread manager, so let's try again:

Do you want to see why Siskel and Ebert were so important to the world of criticism? Watch them smack down this critic...this whole conversation reminds me of this:

Anyone else here a fan of John Carpenter's The Thing?

Didn't it get universally panned when it came out?

The movie reviews don't matter. How many people do you think actually sees movies based on reviews? It's safe to assume that the majority of people don't even read reviews. People are gonna see whatever the hell the wanna see.

Here's some more critical ignorance -
Quote:
There may be something especially wearisome about this emphasis on lore because Superman is – let’s be honest – a fairly straightforward creation. Just look at his name. Sure, decades of comics have expanded the myth, but essentially this is a guy who can fly and lift heavy things.

Well, the issue has become it meeting our expectations moreso than any sort of negative impact this'll have on the GA.

For me this is not my fanboy emotions going into the review. I am a causal Superman fan to be honest, I only know some things about the character and mythos, there are some story archs and villains that I am unfamiliar with in the Superman lore. I recently got back into Superman comics with the new 52. I am more of a Marvel guy the only DC characters I really have a strong connection to is Bats and Superman.

But I can honestly say Man of Steel is a 9/10 movie for me. The story, cast, action and special effects were just fantastic. This is the superman movie fans have been wanting and waiting for if you ask me. I am a huge Batman fan and I honestly like this more that Batman Begins and Dark Knight Rises. And let me tell you, I was disappointed when I first saw Dark Knight Rises and its my least favoriate Batman movie. This movie makes superman reliable and cool again. Plus the action is just awesome!

So, has MOS reached the level: if u haven't watched MOS , u r not cool. U r so out. ? I mean it's a cool thing to do to watch MOS.
If it can reach the level... no matter what the critic said... it will make billions...

69 is a good and lucky score ^_~

we just want to see it for ourselves already

maybe we'll like it, and maybe we won't

but not knowing is tearing us apart

And to that "just a guy who can lift things" - don't we still have immigrants and adoptees who can more than relate to the whole being an outsider element? Superman is the essential immigrant. That's what he is. That's who he is. He is the quintessential immigrant and representation of the American spirit. His powers is just what he can do, but what he represents is so much more than what he can do. Whoever stated just a guy who can lift things sounds just as whacked as the guy who hated Star Wars that Siskel and Ebert tore apart. Especially since this film seems to dive deeper into that.

I'll add the complaint above is a common one you'll hear for snyder films, where the plot vs action balance has had some issues.
Yes because the Avengers had plenty of plot development.

I was looking over the RT Avengers summary and thinking how it should have applied fully to MOS.

I'm curious to see my overall opinion of the movie. I've got an odd taste in films-I actually prefer At World's End to The Curse of the Black Pearl, for instance- and Roper's review actually encouraged me more than anything; he does complement the majority of the acting and I'm not seeing Cavill's energy and emotive nature being that bad as he thinks it is. And the action is a pretty huge deal to me. That's the attraction of Superman versus most other heroes. He has a truly ridiculous amount of power, and I want to see it!

I'd say character development, which is also a criticism that's being levied at MOS for lack of it. Trust me i'm no huge Avengers fan but i can see what most people liked in it, critics and audience.

The plot was simple enough and was paced just fine. I'm not sure people understand what "plot development" means. It wasn't confusing or anything.

Big difference between Avengers and MOS is that the characters in the Avengers interacted with each other the entire film while Man of Steel lacked a bit in that category. That's one of the top things I didn't like about the film.
