I don't get why people hate James Franco in Oz the Great and Powerful. If anything, Mila Kunis is the weakest link in the movie

That's because Mila Kunis is a terrible actress.

Disagree. She doesn't have much range that I've seen, but she's been good to very good in everything I've seen her in but Oz. She was terrible in Oz.

Zack Snyder is a better director than most give him credit for.
He's like the Wachowski siblings in one, but better.

I didn't think either of them were very good, but Kunis was worse, or at least more disappointing considering her character.

Such a piss-poor portrayal...like a ten-year-old playing dress-up.

She didn't even bother changing her voice.

Snyder, to me, is a lot like Rob Zombie. He has a style that is distinctly his and, regards of what anyone thinks of him, that's a good thing. It's popularizing, sure, but there's very few people who find such a voice so unique from everyone else. But he's not a strong writer or storyteller. He really is best suited to adapting other's material.

I don't find them similar in the slightest.
I think Zombie gets too much flack as a director as well.

You misunderstood. I'm not comparing them to each other, I'm saying their similar in the sense that they both have a very distinct style.

All directors have their own distinct style...

No, not all of them do. A lot do, but not quite as distinct as a certain few whose movies you can just look at and say, "That is the mark of [insert name here]". I mean, come on, I'm not giving you a rocket science equation here, it's obvious what I'm saying.

Yeah, that's just flat out wrong. Not every director is an auteur. Some are just point and shoot studio instruments.

I've said this on the Superman boards after I saw Man of Steel, Zack Snyder has great visual style, but he needs to let the scenes breathe a little bit more. He wants to make every scene big, every scene memorable. And sometimes you can't do that, sometimes you gotta let the script, the actors do the scene, and not the way the camera moves or whatever special effect you have in there.

Because he seemed stoned throughout the whole movie and quite uncharismatic for being supposed to be Mr. Charisma himself. I haven't seen much of Franco in movies but in this one he was pretty terrible. He was like a small children birthday party's host.

I doubt. When the Wachowskis came with an original idea, it worked. When Snyder has come with them, he has sunk.

You must have seen her in more stuff than I. Everything I've ever seen her in, she's been awful. I will say that the director(s) get half the blame though, I genuinely believe any actor's performance can be credited to both actor and director. Maybe she has a good performance out there somewhere, but I've yet to see it.

What you said. I love (most of) Kevin Smith's writing, but he's never going to win an Oscar for directing. Half of his movies could've been shot by just setting up a tripod.

I agreein regards to his earlier career, barring maybe the first clerks. His last couple of films have really surprised me in terms of cinematography, clerks II and red state, more specifically.

I agree. Red State was a big leap for Kevin Smith. Strange that he's giving up directing after finally figuring out how to do it.

I kind of wish he had become a stoner sooner lol, in his podcasts leading up to red states release he always talked about how he'd get high before editing that movie.

It'd be interesting to see what his creative output would have been. Maybe Cop Out never would have happened.

Or maybe he and Bruce Willis could have blazed up in a trailer and hammered out their difference, resulting in a better movie lol

I think "Pain and Gain" is one of the best films of the year.

What? Say it's one of your favorites this year and I'll buy it
A Michael Bay movie is never one of the best

Smith smoked during the making of Cop Out. Apparently Kev's smoking was a point of contention between the two.

A couple of opinions of mine that makes my buds look at me funny:

1. I find Scarface overrated.

2. Same for the Godfather

3.I cannot stand Apocolypse Now

4. Tarrantino has been on a downward slide since Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction

5. A Clockwork Orange does nothing for me
