I must admit, the last few days have depressed me a bit.

just can't believe all the negativity.

but, I do agree with the posters above.

it does seem most of the negative reviews have this vibe that they didn't like MOS because it wasn't like the Donner/Reeve Superman films. they wanted the whimsical, charming, aw-shucks tone with DP Clark and the Lois-Clark-Superman love triangle.

And I acknowledge that; I just find it ridiculous that people here are finding infinite justifications for those reviews not celebrating the movie as a great, or a milestone in blockbuster cinema.

Like I've said before, I have my doubts due to Zack Snyder's involvement, but I'm still hopeful the movie will be a solid and compelling sci-fi "actioner" (not in a dumb, 'Fast & Furious' way - or the way Snyder has directed his previous movies!).

Well to be fair to the critics, when you watch as many movies as they do (and see as many idiotic comedies and dumb action movies), you probably tend to get impatient or bored with big Hollywood spectacle a lot faster.

I'm sure I would gravitate more towards the thoughtful indie stuff as well.

Um. No, we won't. We really won't .

they go in expecting Superman to be all lighthearted and fun.

as if Superman can't be taken seriously.........

Still shows fresh at 60 % for me. That The Incredible Hulk ranks higher than this slays me, yeah yeah I haven't seen MOS yet, but there is no way in hell TIH is considered better. RT is just flawed anyway, countless movies are overrated, countless are underrated.

Sadly, I thought 'THE DARK KNIGHT' changed all that, but it hasn't. It seems if a comic book film is "serious" and isn't popcorn fluff, then it "sucks." Wow."
That is such a dumb defense. These uppity film critics have it out for Nolan, yet rated his batman trilogy so highly. They have it out for comic book movies yet avengers is one of the best reviewed films of the year. Got it.

The excuses people are making around here are ridiculous to the point where y'all's are justifying bad reviews as a good thing.

But Critics Choice awards have stopped at 84 percent. That's pretty high. I would think that one of the sites counts more reviews, but I don't know which one.

That is only true if your opinion is objective fact.

The actual case is just that your opinion is often different than the consensus of those critics. There's no flaw there, just differing opinions. Since you know that your opinion isn't reflected there you don't have to pay much attention to it.

Well, critics "wanting the old series style again" is a fact, not an excuse.

It's not only that. ALL of Nolan's movies are Certified Fresh. The vast majority of popular superhero movies are Certified Fresh as well.

"This is a great, big, meaty, chewy superhero adventure, which broadly does what it sets out to do, though at excessive length. What I missed were the gentle, innocent pleasures of Superman's day-to-day crimefighting existence, depicted in normal sunlight and in primary colours: the bullets exploding harmlessly on the chest, the casually lifted automobile, the look of horror on the faces of low-level bad guys, the awestruck Rockwell kid's gratitude. Due to the cataclysmic battle in this film, much of the Man of Steel's mystery and novelty have been used up. Subsequent adventures may lose altitude." This was actually from a reviewer who gave it a decent score 3/5.

Ive been spoiler free for the most part in learning about the movie, but just 2 minutes ago I read the WIRED.com review of Man of Steel and the ****er totally spoils a significant moment in the film without a fair warning in spoiler.

Literally just wrote...SPOILER: "This happens"

I stopped the review and am pissed off

Damn. Never would thought this would happen initially but as the day went on yesterday it became more and more likely we would hit this point.

Remaining spoiler-free and reading reviews is totally impractical. My philosophy is "it's fine, spoil the hell out of me, because the final product will be different from actually watching the movie." In MOST cases.

Based on the drop expect MOS to end its RT score at 54 on RT, that is LOWER than X-men:The Last Stand and Spider-man 3. Hulk, and about 27 or so comic-book movies.

It says 59% on mine.

All I can say is wow....just wow. I know its a figure and isn't an accurate reflection of the quality of a movie but I never thought in a million years that MOS would be worse then SR.

I mean there is clear daylight between the scores of both movies. I'm still gonna go see this for myself because I cant believe that this movie is that bad...not from everything I have seen and the direction they have taken.

This is beyond weird.

New guy here and been lurking for a while. I know where all dissappointed with the critics in RT but why beleive them? I know for sure that it shattered the box office in the Phillippines.

So it's probably not as great an accomplishment as turning back time to save the woman he loves, but Superman shattered box office records in the Philippines this week.
"Man of Steel," a rebooted version of the defender of truth, justice and the American way, easily navigated cultural barriers to rack up the equivalent of $1.7 million on 466 screens across the Southeast Asian country this week. Warner Bros. said that accounted for 90 percent of the box office market share.
It marks the biggest opening day ever for a movie in the Philippines.
The film opens in the United States on Friday. Some industry observers predict it will gross roughly $100 million over the weekend.
In other box office news, "This is the End" continued to out-perform projections, racking up $7.8 million domestically on its first full day of release. The apocalyptic comedy's distributor is revising its estimates upwards and now predicts the film will generate in the mid-$30 million range through the weekend.
The comedy follows A-list actors like Seth Rogen and James Franco as they try to survive the end of the world. It opened on Tuesday night.
So cheer up guys!
