Tis troubling. Probably my favourite modern Superman writer based on Birthright. The guy really gets Superman in my opinion. Sounds like this is going to be a divisive film indeed. I hope Waid's dislike gives the people who love the film pause to consider the opinions of those who disagree with them. I want everybody to stay more level headed than the Batboards last year.

You could tell he really wanted to love the film, but...
Even for those that liked the film, check it out. It was heartbreaking, thought provoking, and carried more emotional resonance than the entire film.

I guess this also shows us that how much heavy-lifting Nolan was truly doing when it came to Batman Begins.

Haha...Is MoS...Transformers 1? Generally well liked by the public, has a large amount of fans, but still critically crapped on?

I am critical of Goyer and Snyder, and I'd probably say they need another writer for the next film. I think it will need to be more intricate. But I think whoever wrote this did a very good job.

I was fearing an Amazing Spider-Man disconnect between the origin and Zod's arrival.

It is a very different way of telling a superhero story and if you aren't prepared it might throw you off.

You know I read the leaked Batman Begins script back in 2004, and it really wasn't bad, if anything it was excellent. Was it post-schumacher syndrome? possibly...but hokey dialogue aside i consider that a very good script. Maybe when it all comes down to it, Goyer just had one good script in him.

I guess so. A more experienced Batman versus a younger one. Though, now that I think about it, he line to Owlman was cooler than one said to Ra's.

Look... This is my problem with those that have an issue with the destruction and lack of Superman being proactive to guard humans. These are superpowered beings. Zod is not an underpowered opponent, he is an equal. Superman tagging out to save humans in between a fight such as this would be kind of odd considering the dualing power levels. Perhaps they could have worked it in, but remember it wasn't even just Zod! He had Faora and other Kryptonians to deal with. Showing the scale of destruction made sense and I can't see why that is such an issue.

I enjoyed MOS, I just wish the script was more tight and well, better written.

Have the cast return, have snyder return (I feel they were both fantastic all around), Goyer sounds like they are going to keep him but make him the idea man, hire someone that is a real screen writer to write the screen play.

I actually would've proffered that they didn't kiss. Would've been an interesting choice.
Didn't feel that way at all. He wasn't disregarding the people, he couldn't control Zod. Zod made that point and Zod made it very clear he would kill and torture every human being. There is only one way for it to end.

And that's a bad thing? I'm sorry but claiming pretentiousness because a CBM tries to be 'serious' is mighty pretentious in itself.

I don't see that at all. They showed a heroes journey (aka an epic) and mixed in some lighthearted moments. It was ambitious, but I think the right approach to separate from the Donner era.

According to this conversation Goyer is the luckiest hack screenwriter in Hollywood. Admittedly I don't know how the writer of Blade Trinity and Batman Begins are the same person , but this is one strange anomaly.

What was he going to do? Run away? Zod would of stayed there and killed everyone. If Superman stopped in the middle of the battle to save a person, many more would have died. It is no win scenario. Hence the ending.

I did feel Snyder and Goyer made an effort to hold back some things for a sequel. They teased with Jor-el doing a semi-shirt rip. We did not see all of Superman's powers (freeze breath for example) and there were no transformation scenes. I think they are saving that for DP Clark in the sequel.

And that is kind of sad. I know many here wanted this to be Batman Begins lightning in the bottle caught twice, but it sounds like it just wasn't. I may be going too far now, but I may consider Snyder a victim of Goyer's writing.

And I'm definitely understanding why critics had a problem with the film taking itself too seriously.
