Yeah there's no way you're spending time on a message board for this film without getting spoiled on his identity. I doubt they'll even try to keep it a secret once the promotion for the movie starts.

Now she's gotta relive the pain of all the time she spent mourning Steve Rogers, summoning the courage to go on with her life, and now the facepalming pain of knowing that all she and Howard and the SSR and the rest of them had to do was make a quick recon of that big-ass iceberg where Skully's plane went down....?

This isn't romantic, people. This is sadistic. Peggy Carter deserves better than this. Steve Rogers deserves better than this.
Yes, I agree. Peggy lived her life in full. She continued to work, contribute, eventually grew old and is near the end. This is the fate that awaits most of us, if we are lucky.

But Steve, through a miraculous set of circumstances, will not follow the same course of life as the rest of us. He must be wondering if he will ever grow old, and if he will stay the same forever. What a terrible curse to see everyone you have ever loved die before you, while you stay young and beautiful and capable.

Imagine existing in a world where not a single person knows you--not as a hero, but as a person with hopes, dreams and longings. Steve Rogers exists in a world where he has no parents, nor friends, nor lovers. There is not one person alive who remembers what looms so large in his psyche--war and the effect it had on him. EXCEPT PEGGY.

Steve is NOT doing old Peggy a favor by bestowing upon her a visit. It is Peggy who is giving Steve something--the ability to walk into a room and have someone who understands the events that made him WHO HE IS and KNOW him. She alone remembers and appreciates where he came from and understands that he is filled with the emotions, fears and regrets of a real person, not some silly superhero.

So, Sam, think of the reunion of Cap and Peggy in a different light--as a mercy to Steve that he still has someone who knows and loves him for the very real, fallible person that he is.

And says, with a smile on her face, "Steve, I am so happy to see you!"

Nope. I'm not 70+ years old, and I was never left at the altar. Been happily married for the last 13 years, thanks. And that's not even remotely an explanation for what you dub "a tidal wave of hate." I care about Steve's character, and I care about Peggy's character, and I don't want to see their stories reduced to a smidgen of a Lifetime Network crappy movie of the week that doesn't even remotely begin to address the uniquely difficult position these two time-crossed people find themselves in.

I don't know if this was already mentioned, but just passing it along. Based on that set pic of Hayley Atwell, it looks like Peggy Carter is married.

That or widowed.

I wonder who her husband is/was. In the comics, Peggy ends up in a relationship with Gabriel Jones, Derek Luke's character from the last movie. I think the writers even alluded to it in a podcast a couple of years ago.

Actually, I was referring to two things. First, your incorrect assumption that Whedon agreed with you (he doesn't). Second, the fact that you assumed the reunion would be so that Steve could rekindle their romance (which is just a weird assumption, but whatever) when no one was suggesting that.

That's all.

The Peggy scene will definitely not be for romance. Caps gonna be busy on Black Widow, the waitress from the Avengers and all the other fine young women that could teach him a thing or two about the 21st century. Imagine the fun when he tries to text a girl back on his rotary phone!

EASY Sam, and Wontkins don't push buttons.
Look there are VARIOUS versions of Peggy and Steve meeting today. ONE has Bucky and Peggy married if I recall right.
Peggy just simply would have moved on after Steve was missing in action. She was a very independent woman even in the 40's.

I think if anything, I just want to see like a montage or news clip showing the Public's reaction to learning that Captain America is alive and well. I think it's safe to see that even at his best, Tony would have still had his fair share of naysayers within the public due to his personality and past but Captain America is different since he's more likely to have gained the love and support of most of the public during the time he was active and in the years afterwards when he became an legend.

Yeah, I can see that, and some people not believing Steve's the real deal.

I know I'm in a minority here, but I really wanted an older actress for Peggy in this movie. Old age make up is very ineffective in HD times and never looks convincing. especially the eyes that still look young. However, it seems like they try to CG the make up a little bit, which might work. we will see.
on the other hand it is a shame that there are quite a few excellent actresses in the range of 80-90 that would have done a terriffic job and are more than worthy a role in a big blockbuster movie, still MS decided against that.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to see Peg again. Her relationship with Cap was one of the highlights in Phase 1 for me and. one of the things the Ultimates did. very well was their reunion so there is definatly potential for a couple of very sweet scenes

^ I had expected an older actress myself, and was okay with the idea. I think Charlotte Rampling, with a bit of makeup to age her up those 20 years, would have been splendid.

I think they went with Hayley Atwell so you could immediately tell who it is, and feel like it's the same person.

If they would have forgoed the Peggy storyline I would have been immensely disappointed. I love that they went the route where Cap is actually going to visit an elderly Peggy, because that was one of my favorite moments throughout Millar's run on The Ultimates.
