The score should fit the individual film. Sometimes the consistency can be perfect (eg. the Original Star Wars Trilogy); sometimes the predecessor's score doesn't fit the next movie, especially when there's a different director taking a different approach. I certainly don't think John Debney's IM2 style/score would've suited IM3, for example.

I also agree that Silvestri is usually great -love the Avengers theme and Helicarrier cue in particular- but his action music does tend to be very "samey". Maybe for the new thriller-like approach they're taking for Cap 2 the previous Cap score wouldn't suit it, unless they wanted to bring back a cue for story reasons. So I don't have a problem with the change.

IMO the only Silvestri score I love is his Back to the Future theme and that was nearly 30 years ago. The Avengers one is okay.

I thought Henry Jackman was scoring anyway?

Yeah, he is. He's done some solid scores. If anyone doesn't know what he's done, his film work is listed here.

Thanks. Looking forward to his score as I quite liked the First Class one (especially Magneto's theme)

Fun fact: Jackman scored G.I. Joe: Retaliation earlier this year, replacing Alan Silvestri from The Rise of Cobra. History repeats itself

I'm sure the theme will be patriotic, but probably not based off of Silvestri. I'm cool with that. IM1's score was good, but would have gotten dull if used every IM film. IM3's score was much better IMO. Having a score set before a film can ruin many scenes, tonally.

I like how so far the various composers have been influenced by each others work... For instance, even though Iron Man 1, 2 and 3 all had different scores, they still had similar instruments and motifs used, particularly the heavy electric guitar riffs etc. It's great to have this harmony of ideas whilst letting each score be unique to the individual films. I only hope this trend continues with Thor 2 and Cap 2.

Also, wouldn't it be cool if all the individual composers actually teamed up for Avengers 2 just for the awesomeness of having The Avengers of film composers? :P

I just really want one of these movies to have an amazing, memorable score that people could still be humming years later.
Batman (elfman), Superman(williams), Indiana Jones level epic them songs
hell they should just get John Williams for Avengers 2

No. No way. John Williams is so damn derivative. He did the big themes sure but I feel like movies have largely evolved beyond that time of music. I'd rather have a stirring, driving score than underpins everything within film than a glorified, orchestrated ringtone. The Avengers theme was amazing not because it blared out with opening credits but because i can pinpoint that main theme perfectly to when the Avengers are doing something heroic, same with Brian Tylers Iron Man 3 score... I love it when there's a great theme but it's used precisely, deliberately and sparingly, not rammed down our throats.

I've mentioned Harry Gregson-Williams before, I think he'd be perfect for this. Maybe someday.

This this this. John williams, when I think of him, the word "theme" comes to mind, and like you said, EXACTLY like you said, scores have evolved beyond that time of music. Now when it comes to rock, I prefer that era to the **** we get today, but in films, it's more about impact, and mood, and less about a theme song...generally. Which is why it seems even great movies don't have memorable themes like they did back in the 70s and 80s, and that's fine for me, cause as you said, it's evolved.

Not a fan of the Predator theme? I think it's very catchy

I think Avengers & IM3 had great scores. I can easily hum the theme to both movies. I'm really glad Thor: TDW is getting IM3's composer

The problem with John Williams is that he's kinda busy with Star Wars.

All I ask for the MCU films is that they have recognizable cues that play whenever something awesome kicks in. Avengers had the theme gloriously playing when they're finally assembled as a team, while Iron Man 3's theme also equally was put to good use when the Iron Man armors arrived as the reinforcements.

TWS should have a good theme, too.

That might be too cartoonish for something being billed as a political thriller. Maybe it would work if they only used it twice.

Williams won't be busy with Star Wars for a while, they're still banging out a script.

Still, it would be good if Cap had a short leitmotif for a couple of times he did something awesome. Something that essentially screams, "Yeah, Captain America is doing something kickass right now".

IMDB is complete BS since Evans was seen in his Steve Rogers civvies on July 1st or 2nd and filming is expected to last another month. Can't call it post-production if there's still a month left of filming.

Post Production work may have begun already.

For all we know, the photos we saw a few days ago could've been from reshoots.

Either way, it's too unlikely that post work has begun in some capacity, and they just labeled it as such.
