I give it 8/10

I see what critics mean by it being choppy and uneven, yet it is still the best alien invasion film I've seen in years

I didn't mind the pacing except for the first time they transitioned from Krypton to the oil rig. That was the only sequence that felt a little out of place for me. The rest was fine.

Not sure why, but out of everyone I'm glad that you liked it. Maybe because I know how much of a fan you are.

Yeah, glad to see this is the route they're going for in future movies.

all I have to say is WOW, I did not expect that ending! Only ONE thing bothered me and I don't know why. The unending amount of buildings they all kept going through and the people in the street just STANDING there gawking. What the heck were they smoking in the corn fields!?
Like I said the whole thing was friggin AWESOME to look at. I can't WAIT to watch it on dvd/bluray

Byrne is famous for redefining the image of Clark Kent from an awkward "nerdy" type to a more confident, athletic sort of guy. He literally put more hair on Superman's chest.

The tornado scene and Jonathan's death. From what I've read, this may actually be more of a concern than Superman snapping Zod's neck. I just find it very hard to believe Superman would just stand there and watch his father get swept up by a tornado.

Don't remember crying when Bruce's parents were horrifically murdered, don't expect to here. Flash back structure is a two edged sword.

So just finished watching it. I think I liked it. It has some great moments, but the emotional moments and story needed more time. I didn't really get the feeling that the movie was too serious as has been commented but I definitely felt the pacing problems, especially at the very beginning. The Krypton scenes and the Oil Rig just didn't feel right. However, I feel like the film got better as it went along. Overall, I really like the new take on the mythos, but I feel like the execution needs more work. The next one needs more substance and dialogue and better editing and pacing, but I really liked the performances and Zack's visual style for the film, but there is major room for improvement. Also, they really need to reduce the collateral damage and increase Supes' mindfulness of civilians. The disaster porn felt wrong for Superman to me. All in all, I think they can build on this and give me the Superman movie I have always wanted, but there are some big issues they need to fix for my tastes. However, I don't feel like there are any major disagreeable story choices that ruin the film for me like with TDKR.

In a nutshell: Cavill IS Superman, good performances accross the board, interesting spin on the mythos, good but simple plot, could've used more character moments, pacing was too fast, editing was a huge choppy mess and maybe the action scenes got a little too crazy but the good far out weighs the bad so 8.5/10. I certainly understand why some feel the way they do but I don't feel that way...at least right now. You never know how a film will hold up in your mind and after you see it again. Either way I want a sequel because Cavill.

It's handled very well in my opinion.
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Supes was placed in a position where he really had no choice; and for what it's worth, Cavill acted the hell out of that scene! You could tell it hurt him to the core of his soul.

Yeah, this was a really weird scene.

Thing is, you have to realize that, in this film, Jon and Martha indoctrinated Clark with the belief that revealing his powers to the world could be his undoing as well as that of the entire human race. Hiding his powers was pretty much second nature to him. It's how he was raised. Out of fear, his parents didn't even let him play with other kids. He just didn't know any other way until he learned of his Kryptonian side.

Which was my biggest problem with the movie. They both were aware, we all were aware that Clark is a hero. He accepted that role as a child, yet they put all these shackles on him keeping him from becoming that. I just didn't buy it.
