Damn, then you must've really hated the 80's cartoon, knowing that the Shredder in there was voiced by Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire.

That's rather different seeing as it's a cartoon and anyone can play a voice.

Yeah, and I dare to think that anyone can play a live action character whose face is horribly scarred and covered, oh about, 100% of the time.

But you know, that's just me.

No one complained when Ra's Al Ghul's race got swapped, or when Bane's did. Those are just as "bad", if you're focusing simply on the fact that they have a different, or now unknown (like Bane), race.

What people need to focus on is whether or not the new take on the characters origin justifies such a change. In those cases, it did. We can only hope that we can say the same here.

I'm waiting it out now that Karai is in the picture. Because it feels like it just got a lot more complex with the whole Oruku Saki storyline.

So it's just a coincidence that the movie has one of his darlings (Fox) in a plum role and his good friend (Fichtner) in another.

Trying to deny his influence on this movie seems silly.

Whether Fichtner is a decoy or not, it shows a laziness by the screenwriters' part IMO. "Oh, it worked in 'Batman Begins' and 'Iron Man 3' so we'll do it too.'" I wouldn't be surprised the next twist will be that he is actually a Utrom and the real Shredder is a mutant.

Someone on IMDB posted a description of Eric Sachs/Shredder from the film. This was later "confirmed" by someone over on the Technodrome Forums who's friend worked on the film.

The description reads:

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

The person of the forums added that:

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
His friend played one of Sach's bodyguards at a fundraiser. His full description of the scene reads:

Quote:
Don't expect this Shredder to fight much. He is corrupt Bruce Wayne-ish (not Batman)

My friend plays one of his bodyguards at a "fundraiser" where April interviews Saichs and as you would expect, April sees some suspect stuff going on with him so she digs deeper.

Of course take this all with a grain of salt, but If true, I could live with this. I guess. It at least keeps his origin, complete with Oroku Nagi, intact, as well as keeps the Foot's connection to feudal Japan.

Seems like a lot of side-stepping when they could have just hired a Japanese actor.

No kidding but I can accept he changed his name when immigrating to America but still don't understand why they had to make him a white guy. It's "Cloud Atlas"/"Balls of Fury" all over again.

Would've been fine with Fichtner just providing the voice and a Japanese actor playing Shredder (similar to what they did in the old films with American actors dubbing over the Japanese actor's lines).

I don't see the issue. In all of the live action movies, he's had a total of one fight scene.

Even in the cartoons, The turtles very seldomly fought the Shredder.

I don't see why it should be an issue now.

The way it was worded I took it as shredder wouldn't be fighting. I understand he's always saved for the big last battle, but I just got the feeling he wouldn't be used for anything except a quick fight ala tmnt II

Right. Because there isn't a HUGE difference between cartoons and live action. Why don't you point out that the Jackson 5 didn't provide their own voice-overs, CLeveland Brown is voiced by a white guy, Roscoe Lee Brown voiced 90's Kingpin, Mark Hamill voiced the Russian Gargoyle, nearly every Black Panther voice actor's been American, (except in the virtually unwatchable BET series) and we have yet to have a Kansas-born actor voice Superman!

Unwatchable BP on BET. That is a good introduction if you don't know the character.

Um, Superman isn't Kansas-born and plenty of Kryptonians have voiced him over the years.

Karai being Asian may mean that she's adopted. Shredder could be some white guy who grew up in Japan, became obsessed with the culture and Samurai/Ninja. He then decided to emulate one, I MIGHT be willing to accept that. Or the reincarnation storyline, that could also work.

So I'm supposed to believe that a 57-year-old white guy is meant to play an athletic Japanese ninja? Allegedly, he has a different origin but then it's not even Shredder, it's just a guy who has the same name. What's next, will the turtles be aliens played by no name actors or something?

Wait, that also happened. And since it's Michael Bay, I expect this to mostly be a mindless explosionfest.

Its ok, Nolan gets a pass. For the record that still bugs me. I almost felt like IM3 was poking fun at that with the Mandarin thing.

I don't know where Ra's al Ghul is from, neither does the mainstream. They didn't state where he's from in Nolan's version either.

Everyone knows the Shredder is Japanese.
