Thats the thing though, I dont think Japan is a problem area. I think India and China are the ones Hollywood is bending their knee to because of how large those markets are becoming.

Japan is a big market, but not anywhere near the billion-billion and a half populations of China and India.

But to say Khan and Shredder are white because we don't want to piss off Indian and Chinese viewers? idk... possibly?

I'd say Khan was white because they couldn't get the actors they wanted that were ethnic so then hit it off with a phenomenal actor that happened to be white since Khan's ethnic background doesn't effect his story in the slightest.

Well, better examples of my theory would be Dr. Ratha and Dr. Wu in ASM and IM3 respectively. Just highly intelligent ethnic characters in positions of power added for little to no real purpose.

Of course I'm just speculating. Don't take this as me making any claims one way or the other.

i wouldnt say it affected khan, possibly shredder i still say that it was a huge factor in the mandarin casting and twist

For anyone still worried that The Shredder will be a big, yellow skinned, blue blooded alien from Dimension X,........ worry no more.

The Shred-dude WILL have his traditional armored look.

The catch is: Its being done entirely through mocap, ala Zod's and the Kryptonian's armor in Man of Steel.

Hopefully this means he'll have an intricate 2003 series type armor.

No offense but... how does what The Shredder wears have any bearing as to if he is an Utrom or not? He would be in a humanoid body if he was. The alien could still be inside the suit.

I am glad he is keeping his traditional coleslaw garb.

True. But lets leave it at him having his armor, and hope he's not an ultrom.

Man, too much is done in CGI nowadays. I wouldn't be surprised the next time we get a Samurai Movie, all the Samurai armors will be done in CGI.

judging from those 2 pics, the helmet looks sick

looks more like an updated version from the 1st TMNT film

as long as Fitchner remains with the helmet on at ALL times, i think this could work. the guy has a good menacing voice so i feel he can pull that off perfectly. the martial arts/fighting is still up in the air though.

but i am really trying to stay positive despite how hard it is

Oh you mean the guy on the left of the photo. I can't get a good look on the helmet though. Very blurry photo.

It's been suggested elsewhere that wanting this movie to be a hit in the supposedly lucrative Chinese market is a factor in the changes they are making but I don't buy it not to mention that if it was the reason I don't think anyone involved would hesitate to openly say it.

Not sure it'd be a good enough reason anyway. While China does seem like a lucrative market Hollywood's attempts to crack it haven't really worked. With Iron Man 3 their attempts to pander to that market turned some of them away.

All three of the live action TMNT movie were released in China with no incident even the third which was actualy set in Japan. It's never been an issue with this franchise before and in general I feel studios should make the movies they want to and then see how to market it to supposedly trickier markets.

Well I would like to think that element is one of the first things to go in any rewrite of that script but I don't think him wearing armor procludes him morphing into an alien form later on the movie like in that script.

I'd be okay with that. I was a big fan of that look when the '03 series came out though I've gotten a little sick of the ultra armored-ized look but most audiences it'd be more fresh.

That being said you have to wonder given that one of the reasons stated why in movies like Bay's Transformers the focus is on the human characters is to save the budget spent on the cgi characters why they'd be adding another aspect that relies on motion capturing when they could a traditional costume for the character?

I doubt that'll happen. What would be the point of hiring someone like Fitchner and specificaly changing the characters ethnicity and backstory if he's just essentialy a voice.

is the cgi armor a joke? the Zod armor on Krypton and on Earth could be done with practical suits. Legacy studio and Spectral Motion could do it 100%.

enough is enough

Same could be said for Ironman.
(this isn't the typical shredder obviously).

I do miss the basket on head aesthetic though, gotta admit

the shiny tracksuit too.

Iron man suit was build and the actor could move. for fast action scenes they used a cgi double.
the Shredder armor doesnt need to be bulky like the IM suit. i repeat the armor doesnt have to be so big and thick like the IM armor.
