OK watched all episodes today of Book Air. That was awesome! Smaller scale and crazy stuff all round. So cool. Aman and his equalist underlings were great antagonists. And I luv that mask!

Casting news...

Aubrey Plaza, James Remar And Lisa Edelstein Join The Cast Of ‘Legend Of Korra’ Book 2

by Joseph Hughes July 11, 2013 3:00 PM

Following last week’s announcement of Legend of Korra: Enhanced Experience, the free app that gives fans of the show an early look at the upcoming season, and the reveal of some of the upcoming characters for Book Two (or season two), Nickelodeon has now revealed some of the series new voice actors. Joining the cast are Parks and Recreation‘s Aubrey Plaza, Dexter‘s James Remar, House‘s Lisa Edelstein, and more.

The Plaza news specifically is another entry on the absurdly long list of great voice casting decisions by Andrea Romano. Plaza has all but completely mastered the “I’m a mopey teenager, nothing impresses me, you’re all stupid and boring” voice that seems to be a perfect fit for the character of Eska, based on the description of her and her twin brother Desna, who’ll be voiced by Joan of Arcadia‘s Aaron Himelstein:

Korra’s cousins are sixteen year-old twins who have a strange connection and seem to communicate without saying a word. They’re both Waterbenders, and when they work together they can accomplish amazing feats, such as shooting entire icebergs at opponents. Korra has always found them incredibly annoying because they look down on her for being a rube from the South, even though she’s the Avatar.

Remar will play Tonraq, a powerful Waterbender who is also Korra’s father (pictured below), while Edelstein will voice Kya, Tenzin’s sweet-yet-impatient sister, and Aang and Katara’s daughter. Also joining the cast are John Michael Higgins (Best in Show) as the previously announced eccentric billionaire Varrick, and Adrian LaTourelle (Sons of Anarchy) as Korra’s uncle Unalaq, the Chief of the Northern and Southern Water Tribes. All this news comes just ahead of the SDCC Legend of Korra panel on Friday, July 19, from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM in Ballroom 20.

Aubrey Plaza is hilarious and awesome.

Watched a few episodes of the blu ray last night. It is gorgeous on blu ray. Probably the best the show has looked.

To give you a sense of just how long it takes to make animation, and how much overlap there is in our production, here is a photo from a meeting this past Monday to kick off the storyboards for the first episode of Book 4––and we’re not even finished with the last episodes of Book 2 yet! Colin Heck (seated next to Mike on the right, and blocking Ryu) is directing the Book 4 premiere episode, and he also directed the Book 2 premiere episode we are screening tomorrow at the Korra San Diego Comic-Con panel.

I think this is the first picture of my whole storyboarding team together, which is exciting. Over on the left next to Bill is Olga Ulanova, my assistant director. Next to her is Natasha Wicke, one of my three storyboard artists. I call the two of them “The White Russians," because they’re both blonde and have Russian-y names (as far as I know, Natasha’s not Russian at all). Then Lauren and Joaquim, obviously, whatever, and perched on Joaquim’s shoulder is Eugene Lee, who has added a creepy Mako next to the creepy Bolin he drew outside my office for book 3. Then Sean Gantka, production person extraordinaire, then over there on the right behind Ryu is Hyunjoo Song, who’s been on the show since book 1, but is new to my team.

Hopefully this helps you guys identify people next time Ryu decides to draw a caricature of the whole crew.

I appreciate how long it takes to make good animation. I'm working with a guy now to make an intro to my Avatar fan-fic (see signature for link) and it's taking a while just to make 3 second clips. Now multiply that times 4 and then the rest of the intro and it's going to take a while. But I know the end result will be worth it.

Really looking forward to Season 2 of Korra.....and Season 3.....and Season 4.....and then the next Avatar series.

Yahoo!

I watched eps. 9-12 the other day and they are so epic. Tarrlok blowing the boat up in the season finale still makes my jaw drop.

The Tarrlok sequence... I am still astounded Nick allowed the show to end that way for them.

Very true:

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

Fans of The Walking Dead and Legend of Korra rejoice: Steven Yeun, known to fans of the AMC horror show as Glenn, will be joining the voice cast of the Nickelodeon animated series for a guest role as Wan, the very first Avatar in existence. Yeun’s character will appear in two episodes titled “Beginnings 1 & 2″ during the second season — aka Book 2: Spirits — debuting later this year.

The sequel to the beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra debuted last April to 4.5 million viewers, and quickly became the highest-rated show on Nickelodeon. Both series are set in a fictional world where people called “benders” have special abilities that allow them to control one of the four elements (water, earth, air, and fire), but only one person — the Avatar — can control all four and bring balance to the world.

Wan’s story will take place 10,000 years before Korra’s time, and follow the teenage explorer and skilled bender as he tries to bring balance between mankind and the spirits, a quest that ultimately leads to becoming the first Avatar.

So apparently tumblr was set alight by the fact that the first Avatar is male. Apparently this makes the creators sexist.

I haven't bothered to look as I don't care.... It was a 50/50 shot and someone was going to be upset either way.

I have been on an Avatar fan site reading up on it. Not exactly sure how the tumblr thing works outside of locating pics.

But I don't understand why anyone has to be upset about this.

I really think it will be interesting to see how people react to the first Avatar, and the casting is pretty nice as well.

All I see on Tumblr is people painting over the first avatar to make him look Mexican or Gangster and such silly things.
