Question 2016 films

It seems like the line-up for the next 2 years is complete and its only a matter of time before FOX, Sony or Disney announce their next comic-book film adaptation that is going to be released in 2016. Which films do you think will get a 2016 release date?

-The 8th X-Men film, if The Wolverine/X-Men: Days of Future Past turned out to be successful and more successful than X-Men: First Class, I wouldn't be surprised if FOX releases another X-Men movie in 2016. And correct me if I'm wrong, they have to release a new movie every 3 years just to keep the movie rights and they already broke the 3 years gap for their films starting in 2011.

-The 3rd Amazing Spider-Man film. Unless they want to give the threequel a three-year gap just like Spider-Man 3. The third movie will either come out in 2016 or 2017, unless the box-office of TASM2 turned out to be a big disappointment but I don't see that happening.

-For Marvel Cinematic Universe. I could see Thor 3 and Iron Man 4 being released, 3 years after their last solo film. And Captain America 3 if they aren't releasing an Iron Man 4 movie in 2016 or if they want to release the film earlier. A new solo movie for Hulk would be nice. A solo movie for a character that haven't had a solo movie before would be great, but its too early to tell.

-I'm crossing out Fantastic Four 2 and The Avengers 3 because I don't think they would release back to back films in just 2 years.

2016
1.Deadpool solo
2.Thor 3
3.Doctor Strange
4.Amazing Spiderman 3

No Fantastic Four movie. I'm still banking on fox screwing up and the rights reverting.

Hmm... for 2016 I see

Marvel/Disney:
1. Dr Strange and
2. Black Panther or Thor 3

Fox:
Might release a X-Men film in 2016 but F4 is highly unlikely.
3. X-Men (Age of Apocalypse?)

Sony:
Kinda has to keep up the every two years if we are to believe Andrew Garfield is as young as they are pretending he is. Plus Spidey is all they got left. So...
4. Amazing Spider-Man 3

DC/Warner Bros:
Would be the opportune time for a solo JL member. So I'd say:
5. Man of Steel 2
6. Wonder Woman or The Flash

So I think that is our best case scenario. :crosses fingers:

Thor 3
Dr. Strange
ASM 3 maybe
X-Men movie maybe

I'm skeptical that Marvel's making an Iron Man 4 anytime soon. I think we'll see RDJ play him in A2 maybe a time or two in other Phase 3 movies then A3, then Marvel recasting the role and then IM4.

Plus I think Strange may becoming 2016 because Feige just said he's next now that IM3 is done with.

If the site cosmicbooknews is correct (which they tend to be sometimes concerning WB/DC) then 2016 sees JL then in 2017 we'll get MoS2 and the Batman reboot.

Hopefully Black Panther and Thor 3. Though most likely it will be Doctor Strange and Thor 3.

I definitely see ASM3 coming out in 2016.Dr. Strange also seems a strong possibility. If it is Dr.Strange in 2016 I anticipate they''ll release a sequel so there isn't a ton of pressure on Strange. So either Thor 3 or Cap 3.

A Dr. Strange film would be nice since I was expecting it to be released in Phase 2 and not Guardians of the Galaxy. And I don't see GOTG getting a sequel. It doesn't matter if ends up successful or not. But I just hope that MCU will keep the sequels to Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers so they could release solo films for the characters that haven't had a movie yet.

Why would they not make a sequel if it's successful?

Well I just think that not every good movie or successful movie should have a sequel or should be turned into a series. Marvel has a lot of properties, if they continuously make a sequel for every movie that they released, they wouldn't have a lot of room for their other properties that haven't had a film yet.

I disagree, it would just allow them to stretch things out and not touch on a whole bunch of potential movies too quickly, not to mention take advantage of a new popular property. It doesn't make sense for them to spend time pushing GotG and then, if it's successful, just leave it alone. The film is also the best avenue we have to introduce cosmic characters for the time being. The success of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and Avengers should show us that they plan to make a film series out of every successful property.

Stretch things out like releasing a new movie for a comic-book property that haven't a film before in every 1 MCU phase? or releasing 3 to 4 MCU films per year? The first one, well the problem with is it, the time would come that its no longer gonna be exciting for the general audience. Imagine if we get to Phase 4 and 5 and they are still releasing sequels for the movies of IM, Thor, Cap, GOTG, Avengers, and Ant-Man. Thats six film series from Marvel Studios. I would like to see Marvel explore on their other comic-book properties. Then with releasing 3 to 4 MCU films per year, over-saturation could harm the franchise.

Anyway, they should keep the sequels for The Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America and Thor because those are the ones that could at least go on for five films. But for comic-book properties like Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, a one shot movie focusing on them would be enough.

No, you misunderstood me. By "stretch out" I meant giving films sequels allows them to, for lack of a better word, milk the property and allows them to hold off on making a bunch of new films for properties they haven't made films for yet. You think making as many new films as possible is a good thing, I don't. They should make movies from new properties, of course, but that's not the only thing they should do bar Iron amasn, Cap, and Thor, nor does it make financial sense.

As for only those three being able to go for 5 films, that's jst not true. First of all, I'd argue that they can all go on indefinitely with large enough breaks between films/trilogies. And as for your statement about one film for GotG and Ant-Man being enough, while you would have a stronger case for Ant-Man, that's simply not true for Guardians. Guardians can go on for as long as X-Men or Avengers, i.e. indefinitely.

I'm not sure about that, even if its good and with the help of Marvel/MCU brand, it would probably perform like a G.I. Joe/Fantastic Four movie unless its really good and groundbreaking.

I agree with Dent. Every new film has the potential to be turned into a franchise. GotG actually has the best potential for a franchise than anything in the MCU bar Avengers honestly because like Avengers, GotG is a team. Along with the fact that there have been members to come and go(not a lot but a few) plus look at the storylines for the series. DnA's run on the series saw some epic stories dealing with so much that these could be made into multiple films and still feel like something new and different each time.

I completely disagree with that, and X-Men pretty much performs like G.I. Joe anyway right now, btw. But just on the merits of the material it has to pull from, GotG can definitely go on for as long as Avengers or X-Men. There are tons of cosmic storylines and characters to pull from and a lot of them have potential to be used in movies. Like blalex said, they could make multiple films off of the DnA stuff alone if they really wanted to.

If GOTG is a hit, a sequel is a guarantee for phase III. I think that's why Marvel is waiting for each phase to end before committing to films for the next phase. If Hulk had done well enough, We'd be getting a sequel during phase II instead of GOTG.Thor and Cap did well enough for sequels, but I don't think Marvel will commit to further sequels if either one bombs(unlikely, but possible.)Sequels will continue to happen as long as the previous films do well.
