I think most people can agree that the previous Fantastic Four were not very good. So what can be learned from the mistakes the previous movies made, so they can be avoided in this movie?

To make the characters more serious and mature. Johnny Storm was quite annoying, especially in the first.
And to get a BETTER DIRECTOR |

I think to think big. This is classic science fiction, the going where no-one has gone before type science fiction. Don't worry about toy merchandising just now, think about the biggest craziest ideas you can get away with and go for it.
Also no bad jokes from Doom please.

There's all this talk about "superhero Star Wars" for some DC characters.
Well, what if Fantastic 4 rather can be "Star Trek with superheroes"?? |

Stick to the source material and DON'T make it campy.
A few laughs here and there (like in Avengers) but not too many, LOL.

Yeah I would I say the level of camp should be brought down a notch.I would also say stay truer to the characters specifically Dr.Doom,Sue,and Reed.

Trank seems like a much better director.

Save your money.
Save your time. Don't hold your breath. Never believe in FOX. Watching a bootleg version is justifiable. Wonder how much better Marvel would do things. |

I'm not that big a fan but maybe they can make it more mature and not play it safe for the kiddies, the FF were the start of the Marvel universe and from I've heard their adventures are supposed to be pretty epic.
Like another poster said maybe they can make this into the Star Trek for FOX, with huge epic space battles and whatnot. I'm fine with the old actors of course Human Torch would have to be recast and definitely get somebody that brings gravitas to the role of Doom.

So far we have:
1. Make it PG-13 instead of PG 2. Get a better director (we'll see if Trank is up to snuff) 3. Get a better cast (Invisible Woman and Doctor Doom specifically) 4. Less campy, childish and otherwise goofy. 5. Better CGI 6. Bigger budget (Rise of the Silver Surfer's was $130 million, Avengers 2 and Justice League will likely be over $250 million each)

Have the writers actually read some Fantastic Four comics with Dr. Doom in them before starting on a script.

Do not hire a director that has only directed comedies or hire a writer that the last thing they wrote was a "parody of a comic book hero"....
Neither worked out well.... OH, and don't ditch a good script for a crappy one....OOOOH, and make sure that you hire an editing team that doesn't edit out some of the BEST SCENES. AND PEOPLE WANT MORE THAN A 90 MINUTE MADE FOR TV MOVIE.

I know of the small portion of one arc where Sue almost kills a man that is beating his wife that lives in their apartment building. One of the most intriguing arcs, Civil War has dealt with divorce....but what from the comics would you say fits the violence, gore, and mature subject lines that you want????

This needs to be about as "mature" as X2, the Avengers, Iron Man, etc. If Fox can do that they may be on to something... |

I think some of the best comics of today, marry the over top creative ideas of the Silver Age with modern story telling conventions. There some things that would need updating (a lot of Silver age villains have ill definded motives and personalities) but the overall spirit should be similar to the Silver age FF issues. |

There is a BIG DIFFERENCE between being "silly" and being "funny or humorous". The first two FF films were "silly" not "humorous"....that is a big change that needs to happen. They aren't the 4 stooges, they are the Fantastic Four.
Something that I felt was not dealt with at all was solid relationships....which are adult themes....not stupid spats between each other. Their identity being open to everyone was dealt with in a stupid way as well....Sue running from people? was just "silly". They touched on it with people writing them letters asking for help, and I'll be damned if they didn't #1. cut the scene, and #2 turn it into yet another argument between Sue and Reed.... Just small things can really turn into big problems, or scenes that are keepers.... The other BIG THEMES of course must be dealt with, but until we know a villain, it is hard to figure out what the possible changes need to be.

An FF movie should have humorous moments, but it shouldn't be a sit com, it should have some serious moments. It will certainly need better interactions among the characters, Sue being miffed about her wedding not being perfect, when the end of the world is about to happen, is insane. I think the villain will be important to establishing a proper atmosphere and themes. Having the villain be reduced to comic relief or just being dull will be a real blow to the film. So if they don't go with Dr. Doom, they will need to do something interesting with one of the other villains, who are often poorly used in the comics. Mole Man as a short little fat man who is miffed he can't get laid, Wizard being a pathetic Paris Hilton style attention whore who is miffed that the FF are more famous then he is and Red Ghost being a one dimensional communist stereotype and then not even a accurate stereotype, none of those characters lend themselves to a story that is meant to be taken seriously. That's why a good FF needs honor the spirit of the Silver Age, but still make updates, here and there to fit with more modern story telling conventions. |

They really need to lay off on the family-earth stuff.
Don't overly CGI things like Green Lantern, but make sure the movie looks like an actual sci-fi movie.
