Default The Joss Whedon thread

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

Joss is such a sweet guy. So many directors would just be like "my movies make more than a billion dollars so screw everyone. I love that he seems to love South Korea a great deal

Before The Avengers I didnt really know his work that well. I was also skeptical about how he would be for the writer/director. After seeing Avengers I became an instant fan.

Are there any doubters left? I know when he was announced for the first film there were alot of detractors.

Maybe theres still some hold outs over whether he can make a 'cinematic' film.

After seeing the latest trailer, I kinda dread Joss' possible departure. You can probably get another director that can match or even exceed him on a technical and/or storytelling level, but there's just this certain spirit or je ne sais quoi to his version of the Avengers that can never be replicated.

I will be sad if Whedon is done after Age of Ultron, also. But, let's see what the Russos do with Civil War before thinking Infinity War will see a decline in quality.

It would be great if he helped write the script at least.

Whedon's best skill is his writing - the guy is bonkers with last-minute re-writes, but he holds his writing to such a high standard that he's willing to sacrifice sleep and sanity to make a scene work. I think his ability to judge how a scene is working or not working and then the subsequent ability to rewrite it the next day (and have the rewrite be of equal or better quality) is the key to his excellence with all of his directorial work thus far.

This. Even if he doesn't direct, he has to finished what he started.

Bumping this thread because I feel like there's a lot of discussion to be had over Joss Whedon!

It seems like AoU is really Whedon's baby, for better or worse. This is the Avengers movie he's always wanted to make, if I'm reading things right.

It's sad to see him being done with Marvel, but maybe it's for the best. How do you feel about this being Whedon's last? Did he leave on a high note? What pros and cons are there about the Russo's taking over?

It seems like Joss has a lot of interesting stuff to say. Been seeing a lot of articles about Whedon these days.

Whedon on Ant-Man
http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplayli...aking-20150421

Whedon on Spider-Man
https://uk.yahoo.com/movies/joss-whe...159571371.html

Whedon on Gwen Stacy
http://www.buzzfeed.com/adambvary/jo...ure#.huVlPqqGD

Whedon on Planet Hulk
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/04/...might-not-work

Whedon on Superheroes and culture
http://mentalfloss.com/uk/movies/285...ure-mainstream

Whedon on leaving Marvel
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/04/...-another-dream

I haven't read these because I'm scared of spoilers, but yeah we need to get a Joss Whedon discussion going!

That Buzzfeed article is a heckuva article about Whedon and his work in putting together TA and AoU. The part where he talks about editing AoU and freaking out about losing his initial plan for the film is a bit of a worry since AoU seems to not be hitting on all cylinders like he thought it would. I think it's probably a good thing, for both Marvel and his sanity, that the franchise is being handed off to the capable Russo Bros. and Markus/McFeely.

Yep, I love Whedon and all he has done for the MCU, but it seems like Marvel is ready for some fresh blood. I know I shouldn't be nervous about the Russo bros because TWS is my favorite MCU movie, but I'm still nervous about how they'll handle Civil War and Infinity War. They're also doing Spider-Man, no? It's gotta be a great sign that Feige is handing them all these projects.

I don't think they're getting SM. Based on the leaked Sony emails, Sony was thinking of approaching them for it but Marvel gave them IW and they were out of the running for any SM film. They just won't have the time since they'll be doing CW soon and then will have to start working on IW shortly thereafter to get a script ready and start filming IW basically when CW is ready for its press tour and comes out.

I see, thanks for the info! I think the TWS style is absolutely perfect for the Civil War. It's them and Infinity War I'm a bit nervous about.

So is Joss really "done" with Marvel? I would have thought that he'd stay on in an advisory/producer role. He's too talented to not have any part at all in Phase 3.

He didn't exactly shut the door as he just said for now he's done with Marvel. I think he needs about a year to do other things and he'll be back in some capacity to help wherever since he's a valuable source of comic and film making knowledge.

Has anyone noticed that people have started to turn against Whedon, I am seeing this more and more frequently on the net. People saying how glad they are he has left the franchise, it wasn't long ago when he was these fanboy gawd. Say what you will about the Nolanites but at least they are fiercely loyal.

No Joss writing on Infinity War but it would be great if he had some input on it.

It has happened with Singer after SR, it happened with Raimi, and despite what you claim, it has happened with Nolan to a degree as well.

Just a part of fanboy pettiness. They latch onto a new 'darling' and start hating the previous one. I wonder when The Russos will start to be hated

Never been whedon's biggest fan tv or movies. He does really well in quick one liners and running gags. Some people love it but I prefer the tone of tws and even the humour in gotg. Saying that I enjoyed the avengers and aos. Just think superhero films have grown up a bit. At least for my taste.

It's not just Whedon. Some people are just really invested in making sure nobody ever says anything that could even be construed as bashing the MCU.

I haven't seen any MCU fans "turn on" Whedon. People just want a fresh direction and there's nothing wrong with that. Nobody is hating or criticizing him...he's had several great years with Marvel and now both sides are ready for a new direction. Calling it "turning on" Whedon is such an immature fanboy sentiment. I love Nolan too, but I wouldn't want him to make every Batman movie til the end of time.

I'm hoping now he can return to original creations. I still want something in the Buffy-verse. A re-union season, movie... anything.

Exactly that, Tacit. Nolanites are fiercely loyal. Whedonites are fiercely loyal. CBM fans are fiercely hyped and apparently grateful... then turn at the first opportunity. A moronic part of the fanboy cycle.
