I was flipping the channels and saw the end of X3 on FX.

The Wolverine does is add even more depth to that ending. It takes on a whole deeper meaning watching Logan pop Jean after seeing The Wolverine.

Bret Ratner should send Mangold a thank you card. Mangold actually helped X3 get a bit better after the fact. Still bottom of the barrel but a bit better.

Its always good thing when a good movie doesn't just ignore the bad movies.

The Wolverine
X2: X-Men United
X-Men: First Class
X-Men
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
X3

I can't believe X2 got knocked down to the silver medal but that's the way I feel after watching The Wolverine twice now. I loved it that much.

I do. There was just something special about that cast and those particular characters. It's sad that Famke, James and Rebecca won't be (or won't have a large roll?) in DOFP.

Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Wolverine, Rogue and Xavier are the essential X-men to me. And they were some of the best characters from TAS. Beast can be added too but the two Beasts that we've had so far have left a lot to be desired. I'm indifferent to Nightcrawler from the comics but Cummings did a stellar job with him. Ditto Kitty Pryde from the comics (ie. I'm indifferent towards the character though I surrender to the fact that she is an essential X-man in the comics) though neither Ellen Page nor the Kitty Pryde character from X3 did nothing to change my mind.

As good a portrayal Fassy and McAvoy have done to Magneto and Xavier, they are just not the characters as they are meant to be.

That said, I am open to spin off movies, as long as there is not a big gap between these main X-men movies. More than 3 year gap and the Box Office suffers.

I think we have yet to see a *true* X-Men team in one of these movies. First Class came the closest in terms of team-building/purpose. X2 came closest in terms of characters.

I think what defines the X-Men moreso than any other Marvel group is that they operate like a special forces military unit where every position is purposeful and necessary. Still haven't gotten that yet.

I meant the actual character selection. Those are the characters I grew up with (and a fan of).

That being said I can't really rank The Wolverine with the rest of the X-films because it is truly a standalone movie. It would be kind of like trying to rank The Avengers in an Iron Man movie hierarchy. Even Origins was more of an X-Men movie than TW is (not like that's a good thing)

If I were ranking the movies by how I felt about them right after I saw them then X1 would be ranked really high, but if I'm ranking them on how I now feel about the movies and their repeatability then X1 is more toward the bottom of the list.

Now to my surprise the exact opposite happens with X3. My initial reaction was "gross" but after repeat viewings I found that I didn't hate it and I actually liked it.

Feeling right after seeing the movies:
1. X2
2. X1
3. FC
4. X3
5. Origins

After repeat viewings and my thoughts as of now:
1. X2
2. FC
3. X3
4. X1
5. Origins

Will see Wolverine Sunday then revise my list!

X-Men United and First Class are the tops.

X-men isn't far behind

Last Stand is enjoyable but is a drop in quality.

I didn't care for either of the Wolverine solo films at all.

I've gone back and forth between Wolverine and X1... Origins is the worst by a country mile.

Yeah to be honest The Wolverine is not really an X men film hence why the name was dropped from the title, its standalone so X2 still is the best Xmen film, that wasnt really going to change I guess.

I have a feeling that Days of Future Past will take that top spot next year, judging by how awesome that post-credits scene was.
