I'm quite surprised that so many people prefer TLS over Origins. I think that Origins was simply a bad movie. TLS was a disgrace to the entire franchise and ruined everything that had been built up in X1/X2. That is much worse than just being a ****** movie.

I've gone back and forth between Wolverine and X1... Origins is the worst by a country mile.
My ranking is similar to that and when you count in Rt reviews, the order is the same to that!

The thing is with The Wolverine, if only the last 20 minutes were as strong as the first 90 minutes of the movie, it would have been better than X1 but no.

Haven't seen The Wolverine yet, but wanted to participate in this thread anyway. I just barely saw Origins: Wolverine tonight, BTW, so I've now seen all of the movies except for TW.

Anyway, my rankings:
1. First Class
2. X2
3. X-Men
4. Origins: Wolverine
5. The Last Stand

Note: I think both TLS and O:W realistically deserve a 7 out of 10, but I ranked O:W higher here because there are some things about TLS that drag it down a bit in comparison to O:W, which I actually found to be much less problematic than popular sentiment says it is.

Wow, that is harsh, I thought The Wolverine was good, not great, but good
I'd go:

1) X2
2) X-Men
3 tie) The Wolverine
3 tie) X:FC
5) X3
6) XO:W

For me, I'd probably rank them

#1: The Wolverine
#2: X2
#3: First Class (this is actually really close to X2, not quite tied but, close)
#4 tie: X-Men 1 and XO: Wolverine (I don't hate Origins nearly as much as some people do and put it on par with the 1st X-Men)
#5: The Last Stand

It's really pretty amazing how, even though this is all longtime fans, we have totally different ideas about which movies are the best of the series. What one fan finds to be laughably bad, another thought was good, and what one fan finds mediocre, another could think is genius. I know this isn't exactly news, but it just always amazes me that we watch the same movies, with the same love of the characters, and have totally different experiences while watching...

For me personally, I don't hold much nostalgia over movies I loved if they don't hold up over time. That's why I rank the first X-Men only slightly above X-3 (which I didn't like at all). Spectacle movies like JAWS, Jurassic Park, T2 and The Rocketeer still maintain fantastic production value 20, 30, 40 years later while I look at movies like X-Men and Spider-Man and they are rather hard to sit through because they feel so dated. X2 had great effects and a great story. X-3 had a bad story but even better effects. Origins had a bad story and bad effects. That's why even though I wasn't a big fan of the third act in The Wolverine (it's not bad, just out of step with the tone/feel of the rest of the movie) the movie as a whole is the best in the franchise because the effects and story are integrated seamlessly, largely thanks to their smaller scale.

As much as I hate some of the things done in TLS, I can't fathom thinking it is worse than Origins.

It's expectation management and potential for something great.

It was clear when they started announcing that every mutant under the sun was going to be in Origins, regardless whether they suited it or not, that the film was going to be a mess.

X3, on the other hand, had the potential to be something truly great and a brilliant comic book movie. It was far from it and I enjoy it less because of that fact.

Also, some feel like TLS ruined what could have been a pretty solid/great trilogy. Personally, I feel indifferent to TLS now but I still hate Origins with a passion.

The Last Stand was too short, stories for 2 movies in 1.5h movie, and shouldn't kill Cyclops.

Origins f..k up potential story for best cbm in this serie. Flashbacks in X1 and X2 were better than what we saw in this movie.

Basically that, Last Stand isn't bad but after seeing Singer's original vision for X-3 and X-4 the end result is kind of disapointing. X-Men Origins is the prime example of a bad movie, similar to The Last Airbender in its awefulness.

TLS butchered two of the greatest X-Men stories of all time, regressed and destroyed character development from the previous two films, disrespected certain characters horribly (Cyclops, Mystique, Juggernaut, Psylokce, etc), and wasn't nearly as epic as it should have been (X2 felt more like a last stand than X3). Origins was just a stupid, illogical action movie. TLS is SO MUCH WORSE.

This. This. This. XMOW was footnotes of an actual story and crammed up lots of characters, but TLS was all that and 110% illogical in ever way. It's a crime against a vision that was building up to something glorious.
