Default SPOILER: Anyone disappointed that...

Is anyone disappointed that Wolverine didn't have to kill Mariko? In the comics Mariko was poisoned by blow fish toxin and asked Wolverine to put her out of her misery.

The whole movie was based on the idea that Wolverine loses everyone that he loves and that his life is a curse. Several times we were reminded of what he did for Jean...he had to put down a poisoned bear...it definitely seemed like this is what they were building up to. They even chose a villain who was a master of poisons and even poisoned Mariko...

It would have been a much more fitting ending if Wolverine had to do the same for Mariko but chose to be strong and continue living. Life is always worth living. Instead Logan just says goodbye to his new "love" and gets on a plane with no plan or goals.

Yeah, it would have been Jean Grey all over again. Besides, he put that bear out of it's misery.

I was expecting that to be the way it ended, but I'm glad they didn't end it that way.

I'm also glad it didn't end that way, I felt the ending was spot on perfect.

It was nice that they had a happy ending of sorts (which Wolverine walked away from oddly enough), but I was fully expecting it to end tragically. It wasn't the only thing I was disappointed that they changed.

The Yashida/Silver Samurai twist wasn't great imo and I felt it really took away from Shingen and Harada's characters. Harada I found an interesting character, but I felt he was a bit underused and now there's no way for them to make up for that lost potential (unless they retcon the death scene somehow). I would have preferred if had become the Silver Samurai like in the comics.

I would have really liked Logan to stay in Japan with Mariko. I don't really understand why he left; he loves Mariko and if he wants to be a soldier, there's plenty of evil to fight in Japan.

The post-credits scene could just have easily taken place in Japan and that would have added a whole "Every time I get out, they pull me back in" aspect to it too.

I got the feeling, maybe that where X-Force comes in? As we know Yukio left with him but wasn't with him two years on.

When did Logan have to kill Mariko?

Because he didn't kill Mariko in the Japan run.

Logan killed mariko in that Death in the family storyline.

Mariko was dying from a poison and she begged Logan to kill her to spare her the agony of a slow death.

Didn't really like that storyline myself, but that last conversation between Loagn and mariko was so damn touching and sad...

In that case, then no, I'm not disappointed that they didn't incorporate a plot point from a completely different story than the one they were adapting.

I was expecting Mariko to die in the movie but with how the movie ended, I don't think it was necessary.

I was a bit shocked. I kept expecting someone to step out of the shadows and knife her. When the movie ended I was like "oh ok"

Yeah I'm kind of glad she has a chance to come back, she was excellent in the roll and could play a part in the Marvel universe as a great non mutant character.

I hate in movies, CBM's epsecially, when they create a cool new character and then kill them off almost instantly.

Was that part of the Miller/Claremont mini? I thought that took place years after

Either way I'm so very glad they didn't do it. She deserved some redemption at the end

Ah that makes sense. Wasn't a fan of Hama's Wolvie stuff. Or his Punisher stuff.

I was wondering if Mariko would make it ok but I think killing her off here would have been a bit much following the Jean Grey death and the Silverfox death. And basically a lot of the other major players in this plot were killed off so that's quite a bit of death as is! Besides maybe now her as head of Yashida and Yukio can be referenced or allies in some future story.

Killing mariko so soon would be a dumb move.Killing her would be a dumb move. period.

There wasn't any need for it to happened, even in the comics. There's so much potential for the character...

The whole movie was based on the premise that Logan loses everyone he loves and that there really is no point to go on living. The idea that there really is nothing left to live for.

Mariko gave him something to live and fight for once again and helped him to come to terms with losing Jean.

Having Logan kill her off wouldn't have solved anything. All it would've done is reinforce Logan's feelings of isolation and that there really is no point of life anymore. In the end, nothing would've changed other than make him even more depressed and isolated.

Mariko and her love gave him a reason to press on. And although he likely wont be seeing her again, she reinvigorated his spirit.
