Default The Alpha Flight Film thread

Fox has the following on the way:

Fantastic 4 (Directed by Josh Trank, starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell & Michael B. Jordan)
Deadpool (Directed by Tim Miller, starring Ryan Reynolds)
X-Men: Apocalypse (Directed by Bryan Singer, starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult & Oscar Isaac)
Gambit (No Director attached yet, Channing Tatum will star)
Wolverine III (Directed by James Mangold, Hugh Jackman will star)
Fantastic Four II (No Director attached yet, probably Trank again)
X-Force (Directed by Jeff Wadlow)
New Mutants (Directed by Josh Boone)
Untitled 2018 X-Men film (probably first crossover event in the shared universe, No Director attached yet)
X-Factor Investigations [TV] (No Showrunner attached yet)

At this point one can say with certainty that the studio will be exploring every available franchise to add to its growing shared universe. The next property I'd like to see announced is Alpha Flight.

Its such a great squad. I'd love to see them on film.

Casting ideas, anyone?

That's extremely doubtful given the BtS chaos on the first film.

I'm pretty sure you just made this up.

We'll know in a year if Trank's directing the sequel.

The BtS chaos on FF is what appears to have gotten Trank canned from his Star Wars job, so it'd be a minor miracle if he's able to convince FOX, Kinberg, and Co. to give him a second chance.

I don't know about Alpha Flight, I think I'll wait for Fox to release X-Force and New Mutants first.

1:The wolverine film should really be called wolverine till we get an official title

2:For FF 2 unlikely Josh Trank returns to direct

3:X-force as it previously exsisted is dead.Nothing to indicate Jeff Wadlow is still involved in any way.Now film may get resurrected at some point

4:Any tv show is likely dead

I really don't want live-action X-Men TV show, they would be limited to budget and I don't want it look so TV.

I don't think Trank is back for FF (though I remain confident the film will do well in spite of the issues that happened, but a sequel will move forward without Trank) and I don't think Wadlow's gonna do X-Force. X-Force was stopped because of Apocalypse and had significant overlap in their stories per Liefeld. If there is one, I feel like it'll move on from Deadpool and Miller might handle it.

Mayimbe says that Gambit is closing in on a director, so that project might get rolling soon. Hopefully Tatum gets someone good.

Fox might not even have access to Alpha Flight. Marvel threw an Alpha Flight reference into an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., so they might have it. There was an Alpha Flight Easter Egg in X2, but it was alongside a few infringing Easter Eggs they probably wouldn't have gotten away with if Disney owned Marvel at the time.

Fox has Alpha Flight, along with every other X title there is. Millar confirmed it years ago.

Also, in early drafts of X-Men Origins, the Hudsons were not the old couple we saw in the movie. They were Vindicator and the Guardian in their 30s trying to recruit Wolverine whilst letting him stay in their house.

Besides Namor anything mutant belongs to fox as part of their deal with marvel back In 1994.Alpha Flight is technical an X-Men spin-off.

That is very incorrect. Deadpool spun out of a Mutant title, and he actually had a separate film deal at one time. He was at Newline for years, but the movie didn't happen. That alone shows that some characters didn't count. In addition, the Sony hack revealed that the Savage Lands were excluded from the X-Men contract. Sony actually wanted to use it, but Marvel Studios owns it. Marvel also has some Mutants that aren't from X-Men titles, like Squirrel Girl (they can't use the "m" word, though). Another thing that points to Marvel possibly owning Alpha Flight is Big Hero 6. Disney released a film adaptation of that, and Big Hero 6 originally is from the Alpha Flight comics.

Dazzler may still be in a limbo.

If Fox was able to use Viper, they can surely use Dazzler.

I'm fairly sure Fox has Dazzler, but I think I can explain why you occasionally see people think they don't. Several years back, an article about Marvel Studios claimed that Dazzler was one of a handful of obscure characters Marvel was developing for film. That article got quite a bit of play, but not everyone saw the one where Kevin Feige confirmed that the Dazzler bit was inaccurate. They don't have her.

Amusingly, however, Dazzler actually did have separate film rights years ago. A script was made and everything. It would have been the weirdest Marvel film adaptation ever (yes, I'm including Howard the Duck in that statement), and IIRC Spider-Man and the Avengers were to appear in it.

The issue with Dazzler is that she isn't a pure Marvel creation. She was created along with Casablanca Records, with the purpose of a cross promotional character. Along with a movie. Co-creations like that can end up having tricky legal aspects.

Dazzler has appeared in quite a few multimedia adaptations of X-Men, so I think Marvel may have cleared up her rights situation years ago. The only other entity that previously held claim to Dazzler whatsoever (Casablanca Records) doesn't really exist anymore (it exists, but it's not really the same thing).

That said, she could very well be "frozen", like another groovy Marvel character, the Hypno-Hustler.

Ratner did cast Canadian Country Singer Beverly Mahood as Dazzler for X3. She even talked briefly about getting cast in the film when she was hosting a "Today Show" type morning show in Vancouver (Breakfast Televsion).

I'd love to see Alpha Flight on film, and special effects should now be advanced enough for Sasqatch's look and Snowbird's transformations...

It's not the advancements in transformation I'm worried about. It's the make-up itself.

See Hoult's Beast's transformation in FC vs. his actual Beast make-up.

Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. 'Nuff said.
