I'd rather Lex be cast against type, like a Damon. Someone who doesn't usually play a villain.

As for the Batman rumors, are we 100% certain that Karl Urban would be out?

Because that makes me sad.

We're not 100% certain about anything.

People need to stop treating rumors as gospel truth. They haven't even finished a script yet. Any actor worth a damn is going to want to see a draft before committing to it.

I sincerely disagree. I think even well-known actors will sign up with just a rough outline of the story and an OFFER TO BE FREAKIN BATMAN.

I really like cranston but my ideal Lex would be Tom Hardy.
Bats: older, hamm, mounts, morgan.
Younger: fassbender, gosling.

You're pretty much summing up how I've felt about Gosling for the past several years.

Cranston as Gordon would be awesome.

Before he shaves his head in Breaking Bad he's the spitting image of the comics Gordon.

And didn't he also like voice for the character in the animated Year One film?

So imagine a scenario when an actor, having signed onto a film based on an outline alone, is horrified to find out months later that the final script is straight trash. Who's going to pay the price in the end?

An extreme example maybe, but the point remains. These people commit months of their lives to a role. Any self-respecting actor worth a damn is going to want to know what they'd be getting into bed with before making such a commitment. An eighteen-page treatment isn't going to cover it. The last thing we need is someone blindly signing onto the role for an easy paycheck. But hey, if you're okay with that, then all the power to you.

Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway both signed up for The Dark Knight Rises without knowing anything about their role. Heath Ledger signed up for The Dark Knight before the script was written.

I understand, but I also could see Snyder and Goyer and their team just sitting the actor down. Giving them the basic story, the beats of the character and answer questions without a draft. That would probably be enough considering the background of the people involved.

It's not like it's some C-Level movie production.

Fair enough.

I would point out that Nolan has attained far more critical and commercial success than Snyder ever has (and has therefore given actors more reason to take such a leap of faith), but your point still stands.

Hell, Liam Neeson signed on to play Qui-gon right away when Episode 1 was first announced, but it was only after he read the script and started shooting the thing that he realized on how bad the story was.

I'm convinced that the Internet would literally cease to exist if a superhero was ever made starring Fassbender, Elba, Cranston, Hamm, and Cumberbatch.

The Expendables 4:

Michael Fassbender
Tom Hardy
Idris Elba
Bryan Cranston
Jon Hamm
Benedict Cumberbatch

Toss in Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt for good measure.

I imagine for most male actors, the phrase "Do you want to be Batman?" will be enough to get ink to paper.

Matt Damon would be great if Bats and Supes were both in their 30s and starting out.

It's about what kind of Lex do they want. Do they want a physical man who can potentially suit up in a huge suit to combat Superman? After seeing footage of Elysium id go with Damon.

Or are they looking at the traditional cast of Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey but saying to themselves "we want that, but closer to comics Lex. Somebody who is a big name, older, fit for his age without having to be too physical. Looks good with a bald head, great actor...seems like a man who runs an empire" BOOM...Bryan ****ing Cranston!

But if this rumour is true, I wouldn't mind him in the role. Since Batman is to be older too.
I wouldn't want him as Lex if Batman's younger and for sure getting his own solo series. Then id like to see Cranston as Gordon. But Brolin, Bale, etc as Batman?? Sign me the **** up for Cranston as Lex!

Really? Currently I see the opposite.

Actor: Do I want to be Batman? Sure.

WB: Cool. So the contract will be for 3 solo movies, 2 team up movies and a few cameos. You may not have time to do many films inbetween.

If we were back in the days of Spiderman and Batman Begins where you were essentially signing up for 1 film with the chance of a sequel then sure.

That is why I see people like Gosling and Bale as a definite no. Gosling definitely doesn't seem like a guy who'd take on a comic book role and as for Bale maybe but they both love acting and they love pushing themselves. To do that you need to be in as wide a range of films as possible. Not dedicating the next 6 or 7 years to pretty much ONE role.

Look at Downey Jr, he was all for it at the start but right now IMO he wants out. There is no way the new Batman deal will be a one/two movie deal.

All jokes aside, I'm going to say **** it and commit to Michael Fassbender.

If only because I am sick and tired of people just resigning to the idea that the universe simply would not allow him to star in two superhero franchises.
