Yeah, I can agree to this. I can't really afford to add another book, but I'm looking for something to drop so I can start picking this up again. Tomasi, of all the writers, gets the characters the best I think.

Just made this for my iPhone background...

Great issues, I love it when we get some Alfred love.

Well, Batwoman will sadly be cancelled;

DC won't let JH have Maggie & Kate marry in the comics, so they are quitting.

What a bunch of tools, DC is... they sure love to screw over their fan base and piss on their artists/writers. This also puts more fuel on the fire with their Rucka relationship, he already was frustrated with them.

Honestly, I figured Maggie would have died anyways after the proposal. No one can truly be happy in the DCU or DC fan base.

Hell Marvel just had a gay marriage in X-Men not too long ago. I don't see why DC can't do the same thing.

Apparently the problem wasn't the characters being gay and getting married, just getting married in general.

In a way, that does reflect the Post One More Day Attitude at Marvel, as well. We can't have normal people in comics: after all, readers will not be able to relate to people who are in committed relationships, let alone marriages. It is ironic: for all the of the efforts the editors are making to make comics 'mature', 'dark', and 'gritty', there is a strain of adolescent immaturity present: they might as well put up a 'No Gurlz Allowd' sign in the Bat-Cave or League satellite.

It's just natural that DC would extend the "No Marriage" Rule onto homosexual characters as well since they're not letting their heterosexual characters get married.

Isn't Aquaman still married to Mera? I don't read that book so I wouldn't know.

Yeah, I honestly doubt this has anything to do with homosexuality.

And is it confirmed that the book is being canceled? I've not read that.

No, just speculation. The only two guys to keep what Rucka started, are gone... so what's the point? It will probably turn into crap after them anyways.

While it isn't fair, I think it's understandable to have some really low expectations and not be surprised to see the book now enter the cancellation path.

And while it would be a shame... it's not a bad time for it. All the story lines that Rucka and Williams III have started are coming to a head. It's actually a good time for the story to be wrapped up. We have the coming rescue/conflict with Alice. We have Batwoman and Batman's collision. We have Bette's emergence as a real hero/soldier. We have the reconciliation of Kate's family. We have the upcoming "war" on D.O.A. that was inevitable. Once all that is wrapped up the book can probably be ended as a solid read.

I'd rather the story continue, but at least it would be a satisfying ending. I'm just curious what would become of the character afterword.

Yeah, why continue this book when clearly DC is fine with zero process or change?

I'd rather it end in their terms.

I'm done; I'll dl a comic here and there, buy a random trade but will never get into DC's Bat world ever again in the forseeable future while Didio runs the show. He doesn't care about real fans, and has clearly ended my Batman continuity. Batwoman/Inc were my last resorts and one is gone, and the other is soon to be.

**** You, Dan... You've ruined a great relationship.

I agree, though the level of attention on this falling out may motivate editorial to put a quality team on the book to keep it afloat.

I dunno, in today's industry any big name writers that could keep a book like Batwoman safe from the cancellation path just aren't going to want to write a character like her. They want to be writing characters like Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, etc. Even if the next team is talented, they'll most likely be unknowns to most comic book readers and thus won't be able to save it.

And of course you're going to have readers like me who are just aggravated at the situation and are just done with the book now. Amy Reeder leaving the book, ruining the Killer Croc story, not letting a very well developed relationship to develop even further all because DC editorial doesn't want any of their heroes married, and now the creative team leaving. DC has crapped on this book for far too long and I'm just done with it.

That'a fair, though it does depend on the creator. Mark Waid on Daredevil is a good example.

DC Heroes: "Aw, come on!"

Even the Barker have separated after Cliffs death in Animal Man.

I heard it said that they don't want characters married because it ages the characters but that doesn't even make sense the legal marriage age in most western countries is 18 or 16 with parental consent.

If a male comic nerds can relate to a superhero who has a girlfriend then I'm sure he could relate to a superhero with a wife.

I think some writers just lack the imagination to write an interesting married couple.

It depresses me that this still happens (I did a Psychology research paper on the phenomenon: it's called Parasocial relationships.) Sure, there are a lot of characters that I like and take inspiration from; but, at the end of the day, they are nothing more than ink and pages, celluloid, or moving images.

Bleeding Cool is reporting that DC was intending on firing Williams and Blackman anyways and that them quitting the book has saved them from the embarrassment of having to can an Eisner-award winning creative team. Marc Andreyko will also be taking over the book with him writing a Zero Year crossover issue.
