Default The Clint Eastwood appreciation thread

I thought it was about time we had a thread to talk about the legendary actor, academy-award-winning director, producer and musician, Clint Eastwood.

Selected movies include A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Dirty Harry, High Plains Drifter, Play Misty for Me, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Escape From Alcatraz, Firefox, Pale Rider, Unforgiven, The Bridges of Madison County, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Invictus and many others:

Discuss his own starring movies, his directorial efforts, or his life.

Also, many of his films have great soundtracks and movie themes, whether partly composed by him or other musicians. Feel free to talk about those too.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly is the greatest movie of all time, only equaled by Once Upon a Time in America imo

Thanks for this thread Raven

You're welcome.

I actually prefer A Fistful of Dollars to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I like that one the most out of the Dollars Trilogy. Also like the theme music the most.

Which is your favourite Dirty Harry movie? And favourite theme from that series?

Ah, Clint Eastwood. The man is a legend. What a perfect old Bruce Wayne he would be for a Batman Beyond film. Too bad it will probably never happen.

I have a deep love for Unforgiven. It came along at a time when the Western was dead and revived it.

I'm torn between Magnum Force The Enforcer, and Sudden Impact.

I would have loved to have seen Clint as Wolverine.

Damn, that's not a bad casting choice. I hate to say it since I love Hugh Jackman in the role but a young Clint Eastwood can probably top him.

Mine are Dirty Harry and Magnum Force.

And theme music wise, I'd say Magnum Force.

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

Lalo Schiffrin is a great composer. He only did Dirty Harry, Magnum Force and The Dead Pool though, the last of which sounded quite unlike his usual style.

He might get more complaints though about his height since the man is 6'4" but I guess people would accept him. Jackman's Wolverine look is quite similar to Clint Eastwood in Joe Kidd.

Well, the 1st movie inspired a lot of my writing and introduced me to Clint so it will always be my favorite.

Lalo Schiffrin is very underrated. He also scored Enter the Dragon. I dont think I have a favorite theme though, maybe the main theme to Dirty Harry but I gotta listen to the soundtracks some more (kinda hard on my phone lol)

James Mangold (director of The Wolverine) said recently that 'The Outlaw Josey Wales' was a western they looked at for inspiration for the movie among others.

Firefox was a cool spy movie set during the Cold War. That was also underrated. Some of the special effects during the Firefox dog fight might seem a little outdated now, but it was cool at the time and reminiscent somewhat of Star Wars.

It's a shame they never filmed the sequel novel to that, Firefox Down. Maybe it wasn't considered successful enough at the time.

Blood Work and Grand Torino are two of my favorite films with him. I'm not a huge western fan. Hard for me to sit down and watch one of them.

I like High Plains Drifter. That's one of my favourite westerns of his. I prefer it to Pale Rider.

Gran Torino is what fully convinced me he would be the perfect old Bruce Wayne for a Batman Beyond film. The character he plays in that film is totally the Bruce Wayne from that show. Even his relationship with that Asian kid is very much the same as Bruce's original relationship with Terry, all the way down to the same core themes.

He's made a lot of critically acclaimed movies which he doesn't even star in - Invictus, Letters from Iwo Jima, Changeling, Mystic River, Bird, Flags of our Fathers, J Edgar etc. I can't remember them all. Many of his films these days almost seem geared towards winning (or trying to win) an academy award. They're quite different from his old movies.

Well he is a living legend. I can't imagine how I feel when he moves on .

But I saw that his next film will be Jersey Boys

Edit: yeah, his new films do feel a bit different but I still really like em
