I'm in the minority here, but I personally hope Zimmer steps away.

Ha, not a fan of Hans' mixing, huh Kal?

On another note, here's a quote from Hans:
“It’s not just that it was nine years of our lives, so you want to stay honest and honourable to that period. So it’s really about, ‘Is there something else I can find that I haven’t tapped into?’ Which I don’t know until I sit down with Zack.”

Definitely leaving it open, but also seems to be being pretty coy about it all. I have a feeling that the portrayal of Bruce thematically will be different enough for Hans to be able to run with it in a totally new way without feeling the pressure of retreading TDKT. Sure there will still be Zimmeresque qualities to the score, but as long as it enhances the film the way the majority of his scores do, I'm not too worried about it. Interested to hear where he goes with the theme since a huge part of his original theme was centered around Bruce feeling unresolved - and while that idea still likely holds true, it won't be the thematic centerpiece of this story, leading to a whole new theme.

Its a little weird, in TDK I thought it was pretty meh but was great on the soundtrack.
In TDKR it was amazing in the movie but very flat on the soundtrack.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind for Batman's new theme to be something similar to the one used for the Arkham City Game.

Why are we assuming that Zimmer is coming back? He said that he doesn't know if he'll be inspired?

Personally I like the thought that he may return to this movie. I like most of his work. I would love a theme similar to this for the movie:

I think that is one of the most powerful songs he has ever done, very big and I think Batman's theme could be similar to this:

And of course a theme similar in tone to this for battles would be great I think:

I wouldn't mind a fresh new sound/voice...but it'd be nice for the MOS main hook to be there for consistency.
I find Zimmer's scores to be overmixed in a lot of his movies. I also think that a fresh composer could take elements of Zimmer's theme and work them in his own.

I wouldn't be disappointed if Zimmer stepped down, if he has someone like Harry Gregson Williams, Salvestri, or Powell replacing him.

oh yes, the ending of General Zod can almost make you pitiful about the villain. a bit disappointed that some beautiful tracks in the soundtrack was not used completely like the beautiful theme used in last scenes of the movie before the credits.

For what it's worth I'm with you. I'm getting tired of him scoring cbm films, and none of them have that much distinction to separate them. I like how the MCU and X Films rotate composers. Even with the original Supes and Spidey series, I wanted new scores in the later films to give a different flavor. Having a singular theme for a hero is an overrated attribute IMO.

I'm actually quite impressed with Junkie XL's work on 300: Rise of an Empire and Divergent. XL did compose additional music for MOS, but his solo work in those films are actually better. Wouldn't mind if he got the gig.

But having someone like Powell or Silvestri would be fantastic. Powell's handling of the percussion alone would be so much fun. And the action music from either one would be A-grade quality.

If Zimmer declines to work on the production, there are legion other composers who could fill the role.

Someone else mentioned this but if Zimmer's not coming onboard I would like someone of a similar ilk like the composers of the Arkham games. Whoever scores those games especially the last one (Origins) is FANTASTIC.

I like what I've heard of Zimmer's work on ASM2, yet I was completely let down by his MOS material (a mediocre score that only teased something special if you ask me). If he can bring his A-game, I wouldn't mind Zimmer returning for MOS2.

He really did. An incredibly overlooked series of scores due to the feelings some have about the films themselves.

I guess we can look forward to a Zimmer-themed JUSTICE LEAGUE at this point.

There are certainly worse composers out there. The man might well be a musical genius in some respects, even if some of his more recent work has been a bit, well, lazy and derivative in comparison to his best stuff. He still has moments of brilliance which is ultimately what a film needs. Moments of brilliance.

But you'll have that with almost any mainstream composer, I think. Like many of the greats, Zimmer's scores are pretty much always solid and atmospheric as well as appropriate for the film, if not quite as memorable or definitive as they could be.

For instance, I was watching 12 Years a Slave recently, and really enjoyed hearing the INCEPTION music used pretty much throughout the film (meh).

Still, it won't likely hurt the film based on his track record, so I'm okay with this and kind of looking forward to it.

I don't know if I myself would call it outstanding, but I was certainly surprised. There are great textures in the score. I don't know how much credit goes to them (heard little things about how much help they had, especially with the orchestral elements), but the main theme/motif is great. THAT I would call outstanding. I love a good, memorable, evocative motif, and I love when composers develop and play with those motifs.

It's something I wish Zimmer had done more of with MOS. That delicate piano melody is so beautiful, I just wish he had done more with it. On the soundtrack album, the track "Earth" offers a variation, but it's not heard anywhere in the film. I would have loved for him to portray that melody in different ways throughout the film. As beautiful as it sounds on the piano, it feels, to me, copied-and-pasted from scene to scene whenever it's used.

He came up with another melody, heard prominently in "Goodbye My Son" and the latter half of "Flight," that is just fantastic, and those two iterations are incredibly different. I would love to hear more of that range next go around.
