I remember walking into Batman Begins thinking it would be good because of al the buzz around the screenplay that had leaked and the fact that Christian Bale seemed like a perfect casting. but then seeing Liam Neeson as Ra's Al Ghul (a surprise), Michael Caine who I knew was in the movie, but still had a "wow" factor and especially Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon drew me in much more than I realized.

The JJoker is right, I always liked Batman and Gordon's relationship in te comics and even to a lesser extent TAS, but it is not in the Burton movies. Seeing Gordon the detective and Batman team-up, as well as this Batman almost build a whole network of "Bat-mfaily" allies from the get-go (Alfred, Gordon, Fox, Rachel Dawes) gave this world not so much a realism as a tactile texture that made it feel lived-in and depp. As much as I love the Burton films (still do), the world is very shallow and you don't feel like there is any life beyond the frame of what's going on. Nolan I felt brought the Batman world that I love and it was very rewarding.

Also, there were a few shots, namely when Bale is staring down Ra's at the end (both on the train and after he says "I can beat two of your pawns!"), as well as when he is talking to Rachel where I just felt like "that's Batman" the character and not an actor in the costume.

So yes, I always was a fun, even if the third act seemed a little messy.

Yeah, I love Spielberg movies. Great to see a director praising another director.

I loved the third act; grounding everything and then going fulltilt with the ninja attack was excellent.

Not directly related to Spielberg, but related to how popular TDK still is. I can't believe I never saw this before but last year TDK was voted greatest sequel ever by hundreds of thousands of voters: http://news.moviefone.com/2013/08/27...d-best-sequel/

It's insane to think it beat The Empire Strikes Back, but The Dark Knight deserves it.

Those people didn't see Godfather Part II or Aliens or Terminator 2 then? TDK is a great film, but greatest sequel ever? Bah! I'd say Mad Max 2 (The Road Warrior to some) is a better film.

I love the Nolan trilogy but can we really trust what Spielberg says? He directed Indy 4.

And did he not direct Jaws? Jurassic Park? E.T? Schindler's List? Saving Private Ryan? Raiders Of The Lost Ark? Close Encounters Of The Third Kind? Catch Me If You Can? Minority Report? Hmmmmm..

Lol, clearly one not-so-good movie on your resume renders the whole "legendary director" thing irrelevant.

Not sure if this one warrants a new thread or not, but Empire just did another public vote for the top 300 best movies of all time. Votes came in the hundreds of thousands, and TDK got #3, TDKR # 72, and Begins #138;

http://www.empireonline.com/301/

TDK's popularity has not waned. In fact it's growing. Back in 2008 when Empire last did a poll like this TDK got #15

Yeah they always get the top two on these kinds of lists. They have never waned from the public popularity.

I personally wasn't a fan of TDKR, but even if I liked the movie, 72 on a best movie ever list? Way too high. TDK I easily can see, but 72 for TDKR? I don't see it.

I mean, that's just what the votes reflected, it's not like Empire is making a definitive statement with the list. But I see it. I'd unabashedly call both TDK and TDKR two of the greatest action movies of all time.
