How, beyond the scenes of space and some similar themes, could Tree of Life be considered remotely similar to 2001, let alone an imitator?

The way the movie was presented and told

In V/H/S 2, one of the best parts about the short "Safe Haven" was
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
the summoning of the demon. Meaning, when he rips out of that woman and goes on a bit of a rampage after the main guy.

A lot of people over at IMDB seemed to hate that part of the short, but it's what made it for me.

I would rather watch grass grow than to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I honestly think the grass is more entertaining.

I like that this thread - and the TV version of it that I don't think anyone ever posts in - is around, because I certainly have more than a few unpopular film opinions, although those are usually liking movies I'm usually told I shouldn't. Obnoxious contrarianism makes me angry, and it's a slippery slope to that with this topic.

No need for anger here LOL

It's all in fun and in an individuals personal opinion.

I've read several opinions here that I do not share, but I don't get angry.

everyone is different. I love this thread as well and reading through it.

I disagree. If half of these opinions didn't rub people the wrong way this thread would be pointless. It's ok to be ticked if someone rips on a movie you like or the other way around. Just don't flat out attack people for their opinions, and you're good in my book.

Batman Forever is not that bad of a movie. I know a lot of people pair it with Batman and Robin, while I do agree with most that forever and B&R were the worst out of the original 4 films, Forever is very superior to B&R. B&R might as well have starred Adam West.

Gravity isn't that great.

It's okay, but for a shortish film it dragged for me. If it stuck with the initial problem of being adrift in space... I don't know. Hopping from place to place while stuff happens. It was okay. I might have liked it more with lesser-known actors and without the Hollywood carnage where everything is destroyed. Good 3D and use of sound. These impressed me, otherwise I'm not a fan.

The director's cut, while not great, is much better.

Dredd is a bad movie.

The characters are not interesting, and very one dimensional. There was absolutly nothing interesting or noteworthy in the movie other than perhaps the very much overdone slow-mo effects. I understand it was "loyal to the comics" but there was little brains or heart in it. Dredd reminds of those bad die hard clones from the 90's.

I am not at all surprised it bombed at the Box Office.

If you aren't familiar with the source material or not a fan of that type of gritty satire, then yeah Dredd wasn't all that. I enjoyed it, but I won't pretend it was something the majority of the populous was gonna dig.

I didn't mind the Mouth of Sauron, or Aragorn killing it while it was messing around with Gandalf.

I saw the first third or so of it a few months ago, at a friend's house... I didn't care for it.

Then again, I fall under Bay's demographic.

So which '90s character would the 1977 created Judge Dredd be a hardcore clone of, would you say?

It's certainly better than ROTF, but we all know about the writers strike and other problems with that.

Although, for me, there are too many human characters that are just too unnecessarily eccentric in DOTM.
