Oh, I know that Davies really fudged up with letting Ten flip-flop on his kill/not kill, pacifist/jingoistic ideology for the whole 4 years. But I personally think it's at its worse point in End of Time, especially in retrospect with The Name of the Doctor.

Because we see a Doctor who is essentially a broken man now. He tells Ood Sigma about his adventures and they all sound like lighthearted fares, a man trying to reclaim a conscience he disregarded to the point where he became the ultimate hypocrite, and in The End of Time he finally matures and finds out what it would take for him to truly leave his principles at the door (exemplified in retrospect with the Hurt Doctor).

But I can admit I'm certainly reading too much into it because I like Ten, and Tennant.

Funny you say that. The only time I find Ten serviceable is with the BBC Books and the DWM comic strips. The only areas not caught in RTD's populist web.

That and the constant nicking of the many ideas of the EDA novel Alien Bodies. Maybe "Mad Larry" was right about Moffat all along and we've all been too blind to see the real him.

I've always wanted to read the EDA's, but I hear Eight's characterization in the books is radically different from the audios.

I think if I remember right apparently there is a scene in Zagreus where it implies the EDA's take place in an alternate reality from the audio's.

On the topic of Ten, it really depends on which "era" you're talking about. I think everything up to the season 3 finale with him is totally fine, he tends to get mopey about Rose but that's it and I think simply because of this period alone I rate him as one of the better Doctors.

But **** if everything with him after season 3 wasn't wholly intolerable.

Then came a ref to The Bodysnatchers in The Zygon Who Fell To Earth (confirms the later audios with Lucie happened after both Charley and the EDA books) followed by The Company of Friends which took an ax to that crappy line in Zagreus indefinitely.

Moral to that is tell Gary Russell to keep his alternate timeline obsession to himself.

I loved the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit story, nice to see the Doctor's view on theoology, even if it was only a glimpse.

That's one of the best episodes of the entire series. Tennant is fantastic throughout and the show took on Satan and managed to deliver the goods.

I can contribute nothing else to the discussion other than to say that Impossible Planet/Satan Pit are two of the best episodes.

Yissssss.

^ I gotta say, "Who hipsters" was one of my initial thoughts as I read Ten being described as one of the worst doctors and Six being described as one of the best.

I'm still getting acclimated with classic who, slowly but I'm getting there lol. As of now my favorite is Matt Smith, though I did like what I've seen of Pertwee. The first doctor doesn't do a whole lot for me and Troughton himself is good but I haven't been able to get his serials, a bit too slow and plodding for me. That's as far as I've gotten with the classic stuff.

I'm hardly a "Who Hipster." Christopher Eccleston and Matt Smith are in my Top 3 Doctors.

The third one is McGann, btw. Well, McGann or Troughton. It's a flexible list.

I know fans like to pretend the sixties movies don't exist, but I kind of really want check them out just to see Peter Cushing in the role. Cushing is awesome.

I dare you to listen to "The Holy Terror" and say Six isn't a great Doctor. Also, I dare you to not love a certain shape-shifting alien penguin after listening to that.

Of course, the audios are really good at redeeming characters that suffered from a pure lack of effort from the writers on television. I'm even a fan of Mel thanks to the audios, and she was only decent in "Terror of the Vervoids" on TV.

The 50th Anniversary audio is out.

"The Light at the End" stars the Master, Doctors 4-8 and companions: Leela, Nyssa, Peri, Ace, and Charley. Cameo appearances from damn near every other living Classic Who companion actor.

It's 2 hours long and prices vary depending on what edition you buy: http://www.bigfinish.com/ranges/rele...th-anniversary
(the website seems to be crashing a little right now)

For the sake of my wallet, I refused to allow myself to see anything other than the download-only copy of the Standard Edition. The vinyl edition is $160.01 (damn their extra penny).

I bought the CD version. This'll be the first audio I've bought since The Key 2 Time and Jago and Litefoot Series 1.

Was tempted to buy more Jago and Litefoot, but £35 each is insane.

To anyone that listens to it:

Is this Charlie Pollard from before or after she finished traveling with the Sixth Doctor

I haven't listened to it yet, but the implication is that it's Charley while she's still traveling with Eight. Leela, Nyssa, Peri, Ace, and Charley are all supposed to be companions to their respective Doctors (Peri is with Six, not Five).

Everyone else who shows up (Ian, Susan, Steven, Vicki, Sara, Polly, Jamie, Zoe, Jo, Tegan, and Turlough) is a cameo of an unknown nature.
