Seems the name of the anniversary episode has been announced:

The Day of The Doctor

Apparently it's going to be an extended length 75 minute episode too, so that's a relief.

Apart from that, there's also all of this to look forward to:

-An Adventure in Space and Time by Mark Gatiss and starring David Bradley as William Hartnell.

-A BBC Two lecture by Professor Brian Cox discussing the pseudo-science behind Doctor Who.

-BBC Four is running a restored version of An Unearthly Child and the rest of the 100,000 BC serial that kicked off the show back in 1963.

-BBC Two’s The Culture Show is to screen Me, You and Doctor Who, hosted by lifelong fan Matthew Sweet.

-A 90-minute documentary on BBC Radio 2 asks Who Is The Doctor?

-BBC Three will be home to several commissions, including Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide.

Add to that the rumoured upcoming shorts and it's all shaping up rather nicely, I think.

I wish the special itself would be longer, but I guess, considering it's a two, maybe three (with Christmas?) parter and the rumoured minisodes could make a more extensive experience.

I think 75 minutes is fine. Especially, like you said, if it's going to be pretty much directly followed by another special at Christmas.

By the time this year's out we'll have had 6 episodes, two important specials, all of that up there^, and those shorts.

THAT is a lot of Doctor Who

And if you also listen to the audios like me, there's like four Anniversary audios Big Finish is putting out:

1963: Fanfare for the Common Men sees the 5th Doctor traveling back to 1963 to save the Beatles.

1963: The Space Race sees the 6th Doctor traveling back to 1963 to save a cosmonaut.

1963: The Assassination Games sees the 7th Doctor traveling back to 1963 to unravel a dark conspiracy in the British government.

The Light at the End teams up Doctor 4-8 (and possibly unvoiced implied appearances from 1-3) and features damn near every living Classic Who companion in a mission to stop the Master.

With these radio dramas, do you have to listened to previous ones to understand what's going on?

For the most part, no. But sometimes, yes. If you look at Big Finish's releases (LINK), their first hundred or so audios would randomly jump between Doctors 5-7 with little to no reference to any story that came before it. Only the 8th Doctor got "seasons" and long story arcs at first.

For the past few years, they've been putting their audios out in trilogies. You'd get three audios in a row that either have a common theme (which can be as simple as certain Doctor/companion combinations, or the 1963 theme in the three I listed earlier) or all three would form a story arc (such as the trilogy where the 5th Doctor had to fix the Key to Time).

As much as I love the 7th Doctor's audios, his have been the most arc-heavy these past few years. They're pretty difficult to jump into unless you've listened to a previous trilogy.

If you're new to Big Finish's Doctor Who audios, I suggest giving one of their anthology releases a try. Instead of 2-hour episodes like usual (they follow a very Classic Who format), their anthologies are just 4 short 30-minute episodes. Look for Circular Time, 100, Forty Five, Demons of Red Lodge and Other Stories, and Recorded Time and Other Stories.

As for the upcoming The Light at the End, I imagine it'll be something anyone can jump into.

So apparently this is the first official poster, via Tumblr. Can anyone find a source?

EDIT: Reading that this IS official, but it's leaked and supposed to be released in an hour (midnight).

I'd say it's legit, it's the hairstyle David was sporting in the behind the scenes video.

Looks like as typical bad BBC poster for Doctor Who.

I like the individual episode posters they've done recently.

75 mins is a good run-time, I think. Garbage like Die Hard 5 was 98 minutes, and that passed off as a live-action film.

For the regen scene, I'd like to see something other than the standing up this time. Lying down again, maybe. In front of Clara is going to be a near-certainty as well.

We won't, unless you mean in Matt's clothes, which might be a possibility.

That's nothing compared to Matt's first year that had a full 13 episode series and two specials.

Really the only extra thing worth watching is Gatiss' thing and the BBC4 repeat of the Unearthly Child.

And 75 minutes is like 15/20 minutes shorter than Three and Five Doctors. I'd have loved a big weekend long thing with an episode on Saturday and Sunday, bothing being 75. Didn't we get 75mins for End of Time pt2?

End of Time part 2 was 75 minutes, yeah...but 15 of those minutes were Ten's overly sentimental goodbyes (when all that was needed were, in my humble opinion, Jack's, Rose's, and Joan's descendants...but that's an old argument). I'll have to wait and see how well-paced this one is before damning or praising its length.

I was hoping for something longer than 75 minutes, I had hoped it could be uo to 90 minutes, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Christmas Special is the third part of this story, so it could be in full a 3 hour story, consisting of:

The Name of the Doctor
The Day of the Doctor
The [insert] of the Doctor
