Default Green Lantern vs Fanastic Four

Two films that were considered disappointing and just generally bad movies. I actually like the bith of them, no I don't think they're fantastic but I think they're decent enough for me to enjoy. I do think Green Latern is better though, (probably due to my bias towards the Green Lantern character) but still I enjoy both.

I'm just curious to see what the consensus is?

Fantastic Four, for me. It had some pretty well cast actors. Evans and Chiklis were perfect. And the dude who played Reed wasn't bad. And I enjoyed quite a bit about the movie. Cool F4 costumes, Doom didn't look too bad.
Plus, compared to the new one coming out, the first movie is REALLY accurate. lol

Fantastic Four. They're both unbearably bland and generic, but Fantastic Four had a little more going for it than absolutely nothing.

Yeah. I mean at least Chris Evans is great. That's something.

Yea Fantastic Four did some things pretty well. The Ben/Johnny relationship is SPOT ON. Chris Evans alone gives the movie a real sense of fun. And Ben Grimm is really well portrayed by Chiklis and i thought he was written pretty well too. The scene on the bridge where he can't pick up the ring is a bit melodramatic and soap opera-ish, but that is what the F4 comics were originally like.

Green Lantern did nothing right and a lot of things wrong.

F4 easily, GL had no redeeming qualities and was nothing but a craptastic turd.

Both are completely awful but it's the FF for me. Evans and Chiklis did their characters pretty decently. Their personalities actually mirrored their comic book counterparts. The rest in FF did nothing for me. And while I like Ryan Reynolds as an actor the way they had him approach Hal Jordan was wrong, wrong, wrong. They clearly wanted to make their version of Tony Stark i.e. the snarky, funny hero. That ain't Hal Jordan. Hal's a throwback to more of the square-jawed set. Sinestro and Amanda Waller fare the best in that movie(in the sense of seeming like their comics counterparts) but they have far less actual screen time so they have very little to contribute. Ditto for the rest of the GL corps cameos.

FF... it has the family dynamic, more character content and has more fun with its concept (heroes as celebrities, etc). And I know it doesn't apply, but I think FF2 is a bit underrated.

Crud I accidentally voted for GL...
Let the record state that was an accident and that it should be 3 for GL and 14 for FF lol.
Yeah as it's already been said GL had zero redeeming qualities, while the FF had at least a handful.

I voted for Green Lantern. I enjoyed Reynolds in it and Lively looked great. Yeah, that's all I got.

Probably should revisit F4 maybe when F4INO comes out. I've not seen it since it's original release and I don't think I've ever seen the sequel to it.

FF had at least Chris Evans who's rapport with Michael Chiklis was better than anything in GL.

Yeah, but it also had Jessica Alba, who might be the worst actress in the universe.

Also, Ion Gruffjord or whatever his name is was awful. And then of course you had Julian McMahon's phoned-in Dr. Doom.

Even if Evans and to a lesser extent Chiklis. That's one more than anything GL had.

I'll go with Lantern. It, at least, gave the illusion of expecting the audience to keep up on their own vs holding their hand through the whole thing.

Fantastic Four, by a long margin. It may have been a crappy movie, but it wasn't without legitimate virtues ( Evans, Chikliss ).

Both average movies, but enjoyable, but would to go for GL, had more exciting moments for me.

I'd place them on similar levels but Green Lantern has a leg up. Mostly because I really can't stand the F4 in any medium.

Well, that pretty much sums up my thoughts too.

I actually really enjoyed both FF movies, the only thing that really sucked about them was Doom - a terrible casting, and a phoned-in perfomance by McMahon-
Otherwise, the films were fun, and as mentioned above Chiklis was perfectly cast and absolutely captured what Ben Grimm is all about - I think the re-casting of Jamie Bell is a huge mistake, IMO.

Anyway, Alba and Gruffud were passable, but entertaining. However, the real fun in the films was the interaction between Chiklis and Evans (who I thought was a far better Torch than he is Cap). Sure, they're not the best superhero films ever, but far from the worst, and fun to watch.

Green Lantern didn't manage to get any castings correct, other than Mark Strong as Sinestro (and Clarke Duncan as Kilowog RIP). Perhaps if Sinestro had been the primary antagonist instead of the evil fart-cloud, it would have made the film watchable. Blake Lively was absolutely awful as the worlds' least interesting love interest, and Ryan Reynolds was totally lost.

Green Lantern had such potential...........and blew it all !

Even though I'm a fan of the Green Lantern film it definitely did blow it. It's a massive shame because I even look at the cast and think it was a good cast.

Ryan Reynolds with the right script would have been the perfect Hal Jordan, I've argued this before with people but Reynolds has the personality traits suited for the character. Mark Strong is fantastic as Sinestro as it is, imagine what he would have been like with more to do?

Angela Bassett could have been great as Amanda Waller she's a great actress but the script and direction made her feel well not Amanda Waller like. She should have been tougher and hard nosed.

Tim Robbins hammed it up and should have been kept under control, he's a great actor but if the material is bad then you aren't gonna get the performance.

Peter Sarsgaard could have really nailed it as Hector Hammond, again with the right script and direction.

Lastly, Blake Lively wasn't as bad as people make it in my opinion (might help that she's super hot but..) again give her something to do and I think she'd have been fine.

It's just a shame they didn't nail it because I think of all superheroes Hal Jordan's origin is the most interesting. WBs should have learned there lesson by now that they 1) shouldn't make demands of a superhero film (did Batman & Robin teach them nothing?) and 2) that they should have done exactly what they did with Batman Begins and get a director in with a vision.

Still as it is I think it's a fun film, easy on the eye and serviceable. It just should have been a whole lot more.
