And Fong returning does not mean more slow motion, again a cinematographer does not edit the movie. Slow motion is decided by the editor and the director.

And if you want a sober beautifully shot film by Fong, see Super 8. A truly lovely looking film short in natural colors.

But honestly I wouldn't mind something stylized. Even the Nolan Batman films were stylized, they had pumped up contrast and in many scenes a tendency towards the blue spectrum, but they looked great.
That much you would think is obvious but then you scroll through this thread and look at the titles of the films mentioned.
The somber shots from super 8 don't seem to be the selling point is all I'm saying.

Anyways, I think the shots in the first mos teaser were excellent.

Great news if true! If Snyder and Fong can create the same visual style they had whilst Fong retaining the same aesthetic Fong created for Super 8 and maybe, Snyder retaining some of the grit of MOS, this is going to be a potentially gorgeous looking movie.

SO GLAD Fong is doing this.

I was disappointed when he didn't do MOS, and even more disappointed when what we got was lackluster. Especially in the action scenes, where it mattered most.

But those movies were SUPPOSED to look like that. ESPECIALLY Watchmen, which not only was a period piece, but it was crafting each shot to look like it was pulled from the comics.

I would love to see Snyder and Fong take a similar aesthetic approach to Batman like Burton and Roger Pratt did for '89 Batman. For all that movie's faults, it was stunningly shot.

Batman Returns... not so much.

The only problem I had with Watchmen is how all the supposedly non-powered heroes were depicted as having peak human strength, speed and agility. You don't get to be a Batman-like character without extensive training + gifted genetics.

That first gif is beautiful. Pure Batman. Fong would be perfect for Daredevil too.

Fong did the MOS National Guard videos. He mentioned taking some cues from the movie but applying his own style.

The one scene where he flies through the animals was pretty cheesy looking.

Disagree wholeheartedly, it was one of the best flight scenes we got in years, almost moved me to tears. I was thinking the entire time, why this sort of scene wasn't incorporated into the Smallville flight scene where Clark flew out of the fortress for the first time. I bet Tom Welling wishes he was Henry Cavill right now.

Agree!!

I have a question about the cinematographer, does this mean we'll see some good old Slow-Mo?

That would be ultimately be Snyder's decision, rather than the DP's.

This is Snyder's decision.

There was an interview where goyer said he wanted to design some gnarly time distortion effects around the speed and Snyder said he's more interested in shooting the film in real time, speed included. Handheld to boot.

It is neat to see a thread like this where people are finally attributing proper credit where it's due. DP's are vastly underrated in these digital cgi heavy days.

2 years ago all this talk about how beautiful these films are probably wouldn't even mention the name Larry Fong, now he's seemingly responsible for the look of watchmen...
ebbs and flows I guess.

At the end of the day when Fong and Snyder get together, things get crazy.
