Interesting I guess.

I do find the visuals in Watchmen/300 to be quite sterile/sound-stagey. But that style is much more appropriate to Batman than the shakey cam/naturalistic look in MOS.

I wonder if the lighting/filter palette will change any. Have Superman be more brighter/primary colored to contrast against Batman instead of the dark MOS suit.

He didn't. Donald McAlpine shot X-Men Origins and Ross Emery did The Wolverine.

Come to think of it, I did like Emery's sumptuous work on The Wolverine -- some nice contrasts with hardly any handheld shots.

Now all we need is for Snyder to return to his regular editor, William Hoy.

The problem I have with Larry Fong's approach is that shots look forced, to make them look more comic bookey which makes them look less real.

Not every damn pose should look cinematic.

Did Super 8 looked comic bookey to you?

Its ingenuous to claim a cinematographer capable of only one type of photography. See his other movies, he can shoot in whatever manner he wants, he has worked on other films besides 300 and Watchmen you know.

In Now You See Me, there were some handheld shots. The apartment fight between Dave Franco and Mark Ruffalo, for one.

Super 8 was not based on a comic book. But SVB is, so comparison will be made to movies that Larry Fong has worked on based on comic books (Watchman. 300).

If it's used for storyline purposes, there's nothing wrong with handheld. I loved it in MOS.

yeah, I thought it was ok in MOS, I don't really have any issues with Handheld unless it's constantly shaking all over the place like in Cloverfield (felt like I was gonna vomit watching that thing, even the calm moments looked like the cameraman was in an earthquake.)

Larry Fong is a brilliant cinematographer, cannot wait to see how he films Batman.

Same. I thought the aesthetic was an ingenious way of making the film feel that much more immediate and intimate, something that contrasted nicely with the large-scale sci-fi nature of everything.

I wonder if any of that will carry over to the new film or if it'll be a start-from-scratch kind of approach. Assuming the Superman costume remains the same, I wonder if it'll be allowed to consistently appear even more bold, color-wise, than it did in MOS.

I don't mind every pose looking cinematic.

Anyway, I think it's good news, because he can always go the Malickey approach if Zack wants, and can do comic imagery like a boss.

People!!!!This is the first ever Batman/Superman team up film so I have no doubt that Fong, Snyder and Co. will willingly go sleepless nights to deliver something both beautiful and functional.....or will they? Guess we'll find out at first trailer but fun and jokes aside, I really hope that they bring the visuals and story suitable for the meeting of these two icons for they deserve nothing less. This CGI heavy era of film-making is becoming old fast and this is the perfect film to push the boundaries and deliver something that ushers in a new era.

Especially when considering the opposite

I'm surprised a lot of you had problems with the way MOS was filmed. I actually liked the cinematography. But I also like the way Larry Fong shoots Snyder's films, so I'm glad to hear he's on board.

I loved MOS' look and I'm a big fan of Fong's work. Win-win for me.

I liked it as well, but, on the same token, I felt that something was missing. As such, I welcome Fong's inclusion.

I CALL IT REALISTIC I SAY SUPERMAN IN THE 21st CENTURY...
I really can't wait to watch this again on Bluray. I loved the movie, espeically the second time around, but much of the fights went by so quickly that I had a hard time really remembering much of it. Even in those few screenshots I'm reminded just how ****ign awesome this movie is.

Do you think maybe, Zack might be listening to us?

For quite awhile, we claimed to want a Superman/Batman movie. Granted, that's when we thought it would have a more thorough (Begins) type origin.

Then we make this forum, in which most posters want Fong to return. http://forums.superherohype.com/show...=462037&page=3

So, can he go full circle and have Affleck rewrite/polish the script ?

If the costume looks like the image on the bottom right, I say it's a sign of some sort ;

Maybe I'm just dreaming

The thing is in that scene, the camera isn't constantly shaking -- it's constantly moving at a fast but smooth clip. It's the kind of handheld shots I like, instead of films like MOS and Star Trek where the director wobbles the camera like a damn camcorder. (There's even a behind-the-scenes bit where JJ Abrams makes sure to wobble the camera during filming on Star Trek.)

I don't mind handheld shots, but use them sparingly and for effect. I hope Snyder and Fong do that with this film. Use handheld camera for maybe a few Daily Planet and Smallville scenes... don't use when it's not needed.
