^ This. I personally believe that Zack went so far in to the other extreme, with a bit of sped-up shakeycam action and NO slow motion, in order to distance himself from his past work.

I think hiring Fong suggests that Zack is more comfortable with his posterized style this time around, and I think that will show in the final product. I'm looking for W/F, though I hope a proper sequel arrives. A blend of both visual styles would be optimal, the stylized grittiness for the Batman moments, and the warm haziness for Superman. And hopefully we can see some natural colors this time around

Whenever the camera shakes in that forced way for unnecessary added "realism" or "drama" it feels so amateurish. A better way to get the intended effect is to put it on a normal steadicam and let it play out in a more natural way, like they do on Breaking Bad. You don't actively notice it, but the little touch adds to emotion of the scene--and that's one of the best things you can do as director/DP.

(Filming for SvB begins February, and the directors usually have editors signed on months before shooting begins.)

I don't think David Brenner did a bad job on MOS -- some of the action elements was out of his control (like the handheld shots and cinematography) and the rest Snyder insisted on being the way they are. Wouldn't mind seeing him work with Snyder again.

Or maybe Snyder can work with someone else new for this movie, and get a fresh perspective and approach to cutting it together.

The editing in MOS was awful, I hope he doesn't come back.

Yes the editing was bad.

The only bit of editing I liked was the spaceship just pummeling towards the Kent farm and smash cut to the boat. That was amazing and brilliant, almost like an art film but overall yeah, pretty unremarkable.

The editing was kind of each taste (not everyone likes the flashback thing... as bb's and mos but I found it great)
agreed on the bold part...

I agree the flashbacks were not cut well into the film itself (as well as a few action scenes), but I didn't have a problem with the way everything else was cut.

I don't know how different MOS would've turned out. William Hoy would've had the exact same shots and angles to work with like Brenner did in the editing bay.... same if Lee Smith had come on.

And the same script :/

But I would have liked to see a longer cut. Unleash the Extended DVD

Larry Fong is a brilliant cinematographer, cannot wait to see how he films Batman.
Horrible. Looks like TV or a Marvel film. MOS is my fav film in terms of how it looks.

The scene in NYSM isn't a great representation of how the movie overall looks. And unlike most TV and MCU films, Fong and Mitchell Amundsen shot in 35mm.

Fong can do both the hazy MOS style

And the glossy ZS style

I support this decision

Anybody seeing the visuals and cinematography of the movie Gravity? From what I've seen it seems to be the new standard in terms of really catching the feeling and look of a particular environment and situation. This is what I'm hoping Batman vs Superman will do in terms of really delivering stunning visuals with depth (action and throughout) that tells a story of it's own in the superhero genre. Hope Fong delivers.

Gravity was shot by Emmanuel Lubezki, one of the very best in the business, imo. It would be a major coup for any superhero property to snag him, as it seems unlikely to me that he'd be interested based on his choices in projects over the last decade or so.

Is the Cinematographer a new character, and is Larry Fong playing him? Is he like the Terminator?

I wonder how much of this movie will use the desaturated, naturalistic look for the scene with Superman and a more rich, darker look for Batman's world. If they play with the visuals in the same way I hope they play with this thematically I think it could look really great.

Batman should have his own cinematography style.
The lighting/angles should be completely different from the shooting style of Supes.

Mein...Just finished watching MOS blu-ray rip and I'm even more underwhelmed by the visuals and shooting style as well as the movie on a whole. Felt like I was literally watching a cartoon during the action scenes and most of the other shots felt so weakly handled. It all felt so inconsequential and weightless as a product. Don't think the people in charge know what they're doing at all.

^ At least you're honest about your online activities

I actually liked that it felt like a DCU cartoon at times. The animations tend to be well done.

...Really? Most of the DCU animated features had more weight and although they are inconsistent with Superhuman power levels you still get the feeling that whoever is on screen is powerful imo....MOS felt as powerful as when I used to trade blows between action figures as a child LOL
