Default I believe Disney will save Star Wars

The last 3 movies left a bad taste in many mouths and so did the last Indiana Jones movie as Lucas knew it and i'm glad he sold his company and baby so he can retire and let better people do his work.

I mean Disney done wonders with Pixar, Marvel and the Muppets so i think it all makes sense since they done rides and attractions based on Lucasfilm stuff at the parks. Plus they hired a good writer and a good director who is a fan of the films as this could be a nice fan film that should be on par with the old trilogy.

I think Disney doesn't care as long as they make money off the property.

The thing with those properties is, at least with Marvel and Pixar, the way they 'did wonders' with them was to... Basically leave them alone and let the people who were doing their jobs well to continue to do so. Fiege's still handling Marvel, and Kennedy will take a similar role in Star Wars. I don't know how much creative involvement the Disney people have...

They certainly can't screw it up anymore than George "Midichlorians" Lucas already has.

I think so too. I have really high hopes for the sequel trilogy.

Even beyond just the films though, I think the most important way that Disney has saved Star Wars, is that Star Wars is open-ended once again. I was really beginning to get worried about the franchise before Disney stepped in.

Prior to the prequel trilogy, I was vaguely aware that at various points in the past George Lucas had talked about doing a sequel trilogy, but I never realistically expected it to happen. I was pretty excited about the prequel trilogy though. However the problem with prequels in general is that you know how they're going to end before they've even begun, so that was kind of a knock against them already. And then of course, I think most people agree, that the films themselves didn't really live up to expectations. Then later in the ramp up to Episode III, George seemed so adamant that it was going to be the last one. I thought that was going to be the end, and I was mostly okay with it at the time.

After Episode III though, George started talking about how he wanted other filmmakers to do spin-offs, and there was a lot of talk about a live action series. All of that seemed really exciting to me. It was probably the next best thing to getting more proper numbered episodes. But... talk died down and nothing ever materialized of those projects. Yes, there was The Clone Wars (and I understand it blossomed into a pretty good little show later on), but it just didn't do anything for me. Plus, that was never going to last forever. And then what? What, if anything, was going to come after that? The future of Star Wars seemed very uncertain to me, bleak even. In fact, I thought it was just going to peter out and run out of steam, dying a sad, slow death. Maybe it would get rebooted in twenty years, or maybe it would die with George Lucas. Neither possibility was very appealing.

Then the Disney acquisition happened. Not only that, but Episodes VII, VIII, and IX were announced. From both a real world, as well as an in-universe perspective, Star Wars once again had a future. Thanks to Disney, for us fans, we no longer have to put up with the prequels being the bitter last gasp of the franchise, and for the universe and characters, the story continues....

I don't believe Disney will save SW, because in my opinion it needs no saving. But I do have faith it'll expand it.

I won't be convinced until the credits roll.

I still remember thinking Phantom Menace was going to be the best movie ever after the trailer.

Fool me once...

He certainly is, but the problem with J.J.Abrams is that even Michael Bay will admit his oun errors before Abrams.

Well JJ stated he is more of a SW fan than a ST fan and he is gonna leave ST so he can move on to what he is more comfortable with being SW and he will put alot of love for the OT and make something worthy, hell even the OT actors will reunite here.

And Disney is gonna do a SW/Indiana Jones land, oh that will be awesome especially with different SW and IJ attractions.

It's been clear for a long time that the biggest thing holding the franchise back was Lucas himself. Even in the early days of the Original Trilogy he could be less than a collaborator with insisting on the Ewoks in Jedi despite others not wanting it and challenging aspects of the Empire production. It's not a guarantee that the new films will be good, though there's promising talent behind it. The series is in the best position to produce quality movies arguably since the 80's. The irony to the whole thing is that a gargantuan corporation like Disney had to acquire it from the independent mogul for this to happen.

I'm pretty confident that JJ Abrams will deliver!

Though I'm not sure about the origin spin-offs that they are planning.

Disney doesn't need to save Star Wars. Star Wars isn't and hasn't been in trouble since it's popularity soared again in the late 90's and it has yet to fall again.

I'm gonna have to step in to defend Gianakin. Probably one of the most coolest fellows on the boards.

Sure, the Prequels are a nasty, disgusting, gross, vile pieces of filth that made me vomit several times, but at least he stands by them. And honest to God, I can respect that...... despite the headache-inducing rancidness and poop-pouring dreadfulness of the Prequels.

You don't have to thank me, Gianakin. I'm by your side.

Yeah, that's definitely the biggest question mark for me. Putting out a new movie every year seems like such overkill. They might oversaturate the market, which would only drive people away from Star Wars.
