Default Namor vs the Thing

Both namor and the Thing are rated at class 100 strength according to the official marvel stats, however they both have demonstrated feats of stength beyond this, and it is stated that Namors strength is "virtually unmatched" underwater. AvX however has namors punch being weaker than the things underwater. Now i am inclined to believe that the AvX arc is totally crap writing and nonsense, they had captain Americas shield stand up to a phoenix powered optic blast, yet it got shattered by the Serpent tugging on it. I guess a certain level on complete stupidity is to be expected especially when the writer claimed caps shield to be a mix of steel and vibrainum, when it should currently be adamant/virbranium reinforced with uru after Fear Itself. So should Namor really lose to the Thing, or was AvX the complete garbage we all think it to be?

I forgot to enable multiple choices, so if you believe Namor would win but also feel AvX just made stuff up I would prefer you to vote for who you think would win, and then post in your reply what other continuity errors really bother you and or things that were completely made up for this event, like Iron man pulling power from jupiter etc

That thinking is pretty much exactly what is wrong with comics these days.

I was under the belief from those early, early Fantastic Four comics that Thing wouldn't stand a chance against Namor if they are underwater. It's like Marvel 101 knowledge.

In the early comics Namor beat The Hulk....as far as I know The Thing has never beat the Hulk

I know right, apparently Bendis and the other AvX people completely ignored these facts.

Avengers fans will say that was early hulk before they expanded both the Hulks and the Things powers. Sadly nothing we know to be true will change the fact that the AvX people said the Thing hits harder underwater than Namor, their completely incompetent AvX fun Facts, saying that a being that has unmatched physical strength in the over 100 tons range can only hit with the force of around 1 ton vehicle traveling at 45mph. (note, Namor himself can travel so much faster than 45 mph, especially underwater that to say that as a fact would be comical if it was not so tragically incompetent) Not to mention the other completely ridiculous assertions made.

By the old classification system Namor was in the 85 ton range and the Thing was in the 100 ton.

According to every marvel source, its website, and official universe guides, Namor is 100 tons and 100+ underwater, even going so far as being "unmatched" under water.

This was the original handbook of the Marvel Universe that came out I think in like '86. Namor was listed at the same level as Iron Man at 85 tons IIRC.

They might have changed it, but, I've never considered him in the same strength class as Thor, Hulk, Thing and Hercules.

The Thing has never been anywhere near those guys in strength, the Thing is STILL, not able to lift over 100 tons, he is rated at level at 6/7 strength, a 100 ton only. Granted he has shown feats above this, but until marvel reclassifies him, he should not be mentioned in the same breath as Thor, Hulk and Hercules.

Note, Fan ratings, do not matter, the official ratings for the Thing, show him at 100 tons, no more, you will no doubt be able to find evidence of the Thing exceeding this limit, but that is what we call bad writing.

As to what the 86 Marvel book says about Namor, I cant speak to it, However all current ratings place him at 100 tons, and unmatched under water.

Namor could beat the Thing any day as long as he was sufficiently hydrated. Or is that not a problem anymore?

Namor can fly and breath underwater. Grimm can do neither. Namor brings him to any other element and he's toast. Fly him high enough in the sky and drop him or just toss him far into the ocean and Namor wins.

Like I said earlier it's been changed. Hulk, Thing, Thor were originally in one class (100) and Namor and Iron Man were in another (85). It'll change in another 20+ years, that's really the only constant.

Back in the day they just lumped everyone in one slot or another. These days all of us fans have forced them to classify everybody as one or another. Iron Mans power changes on the suit but the rest of them besides the Thing have almost always been 100+ except for Hulks grey periods.

AvsX was pretty badly done. It was the usual 'everybody fight cause why not?' deal. I can't imagine all the writers knew everything they were writing about and the deadlines/story demands meant they couldn't take the time to try to make it all plausible so they winged it.
