Oh and another thing, anyone thought Vaatu was similar to the Reapers from Mass Effect? You know with that laser beam that also had a similar sound to it like the reapers has.
Ha ha, yeah. I did get a Reaper vibe from the beam sound effect.

It was a great two episodes. Vaatu had an excellent voice actor and I loved some of his lines like "To Hate me to give me bread. To fight me is to give me strength".

It felt like a retelling of an old Legend, like the Ramayana or the Journey to the West. It was very unique and the music was gorgeous.

This episode was as close to perfection as an episode could get. The only thing I hated was that it was confined to an hour. Hopefully the rest of the season will continue to live up to the bar these episodes have set.

Here's my review:

Let's chat in the comments about what you loved about it!

Anyone notice the final shot at the end?

Note the wake to the right of the island. It's probably a Lion Turtle.

Man, they could have honestly made an entire Season out of his journey.

I do wonder though how those arrows got stuck in that rock he's resting on.

Yeah, a shield made out of rock. I do not know much about archery but I've never heard of someone putting an arrow inside a rock.

Do you guys thinK Vaatu will escape and become a season 3 bad guy or that he's the villain who makes the nations unite season 2 last villain?

Oh he's Season 2 for sure, prolong this (especially since the Harmonic Convergence is just weeks away) would be ridiculous. He'll be the focus on the back half of the season.

I see one of two things happening

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

The "Unalaq really isn't a bad guy" theory is he's trying to have Korra open the Spirit Portals for the Harmonic Convergence to defeat Vaatu and rebind him with Raava.

The "Unalaq is a bad guy" theory is that his goal is to become the "Dark Avatar" with Vaatu, either on his own free will or he's been deceived by Vaatu.

I thought the same thing. Especially with seeing part of how/why the different people fought, became their own nations, and Wan's failure of bringing peace.

That was the gut-wrenching part. He died an old man knowing in some ways the world was the way it is because of him and he couldn't fix all of it. Still that he tried to uphold his beliefs even till his literal last breath was inspiring.

Once Korra does what whatever she does by season's end, Wan will come back in spirit form to thank her.

Ah someone will comment on how "cliche" either outcome will be and bash Korra for trusting Unalaq who was so obviously the 1-dimensional bad guy to begin with. The first scenario you mention seems a lot cooler though.

I hesitate to label him as

"Dark Avatar", since the spirits that Vaatu turned were acting on their impulses, rather than simply being outright evil. I do wonder where the twins fit into this scheme. What's interesting is that Korra's actions prior to this special mirrored those of the Vaatu-converted spirits.

And Raava saying they'd still be together before he died was nice.

Ha ha. Nice to see that in some ways the guardians of the last era still make it a point to help out the guardians of the current era.
