When the top critics give there reviews the bottom critics don't want to look like fools by comparison. They usually take other critics complaints in to consideration whey they form there opinion.

Just saying. For some reason American critics are tougher on superhero movies than overseas critics.

I, myself, kind of like it that way. When a superhero movie scores over an 80% it's usually well deserved.

Americans didnt invent the Superhero genre, but , they perfected it .
So we are more critical toward the Films than others might be .

84% to 78%. Well that was fast.

To be honest, I'm happy with this since I don't think Thor 2 deserves to get a higher rating than Thor 1 and other MCU movies like Cap 1 and Iron 3. What I like about Rotten Tomatoes, is their accuracy with most franchises. Their ratings for X-Men movies, Iron Man movies, Spider-Man movies and even Batman movies matches well with my rankings.

After MoS super-nose-dive they are afraid to make consensus to big SH movies. They gave their mostly positive consensus to MoS after 24 reviews (and fresh 64%)- and look how it turned out. Here we going to get it only after 70+ I think...

Yeah RT actually edited their consensus to Man of Steel, they removed the words "mostly positive" when the film got more negative reviews.

Yep, the exact phrase that was removed was "mostly successful" and I remember when they tried to save their face in front of WB with the article "we do not know what those critics are thinking!". All in all its was a disaster(not movie but a RT situation-to be clear).

They edited their consensus on Iron Man 3 too. It originally said 'one of Marvel's best' when it was in the 90s.

In all honestly, I always felt in general, the were too kind to the better superhero films before Begins hit. Then they reset their expectations. I mean, I'd take most of the MCU films over the early 00s superhero films that have pretty big scores on RT.

Things change. When X-Men came out it was great imo but I think the acting under McKellen/Stewart is of lower quality than CMB's often get together these days. That said I might prefer the two Spider-Man movies to the Nolan Trilogy.

I don't really think they are too kind, or too harsh though, with the reason that it doesn't matter to me what RT score a movie has. I make up my own mind and RT matters as little if I think the same as critics or if I don't.

In film terms, I think they use to ignore things they hammer films for now.

It's almost always like that if you haven't seen something like it before. Then the new sensation can often overshadow the flaws. Star Wars didn't have a deeper plot or better acting but it was revolutionary for it's time and therefor became a true classic. Not that the superhero movies we're talking about can be even compared to that, but it's still the same kind of effect.

Any film that raises the bar or shows something new can have it's lesser qualities overshadowed.

Haven't you noticed....all these films you loved as a child and that were hits then...you watch them now and if they were NEW movies now you'd barf at some of the acting or plot in them.

Star Wars is a great film. It wasn't praised simply because it was new, it wasn't really, if anything it was a throwback, like Indy a few years later. It was a revolution in Hollywood, but what made it a classic that stood the test of time was its quality. Same with the films of Lean, Kurbrick, Capra, etc. People still watch "Gone with the Wind" because it is awesome.

I've always felt that superhero films needed to be extra high quality because a lot of critics want to hate the genre. It's their pretentious and jaded side they must feed in order to try and gain credibility in their own mind or circles. If they're on the fense, they'll come down negative every time.

Still, if you look at it like a sporting event, there's nothing wrong with 45 wins and 13 losses. 78% is amazing for this type of film.

I agree with this. Aside from rare gems like Superman 1 & 2, Unbreakable or maybe The Rocketeer, there's not a superhero film pre-2005 that I'd give higher than a 7.25/10 to in the entire sub-genre. But I've given many higher scores than that since that time.

The Avengers says hi!

Honestly, this year hasn't been very strong when it comes to CBMs, at least according to the critics' scores and I have to agree with them, even though I loved The Wolverine. Being in the 70-79% area is still good, you know.
