You're making it seem like Singer was the one that screwed over the X-Men franchise after X2 when that couldn't be any further from the truth.

How is it a bad thing that he wanted to go and do something different for a little bit? There's nothing wrong with a director wanting a little change up in his work.

He could have easily come back and done an X3/X4 afterwards if Fox wouldn't have been so impatient. If you want to blame anyone, blame Fox. They wanted to rush production and get the movie out as fast as possible instead of waiting for the director that pretty much put their franchise on the map.

I dunno if Singer is maintaining all continuity...the classic Cerebro is up and running and it looks like Xavier and Magneto are worlds apart. Though it was said in both x1-2 that Magnrto helped him build it.

Well in the trailer it also looks Cerebro is exploding so Magneto could certainly help him rebuild it again.

Yeah but that would be in an alternate timeline. Everything that happens in the 70s after Wolverine goes back will be altered due to his interference...

There could be dialogue explaining he helped him off screen and that was the last he saw of him.

it's just one bit of dialogue from X1, i don't care if they 'fix' it or not. Won't change anything about the movies will it.

well not entirely true. X2's plot is based off of it. Stryker got the info on Cerebro from Magneto because he had helped Charles build it.

oops...

Yeah, plus Magetno knew exactly how to alter Stykers Cerebro so it would target humans instead (not to mention exactly how to sabotage the original in X1 to attack Charles).

Pretty obvious he had a hand in it's creation in the OT. How they explain that remains to be seen (as suggested, it needing to be rebuilt quickly if it suffers significant damage in that trailer snippet could cover it: Mags could help rebuild Cerebro and gain all the knowledge then on it's workings we know he has from X1 & X2)

Sorry, I know this is an unpopular opinion around here, but I side with Fox on this issue.

Singer didn't just decide he wanted to go do something else, he decided he wanted to go do something else right in the middle of a huge blockbuster franchise after setting up a huge cliffhanger that brought anticipations for the next installment through the roof.

Fox couldn't just sit and wait around, lingering on the hype, while Singer piddle pattled away doing other stuff. They had to strike while the iron was hot. As it was, it was already a 3 year gap between films. In comparison, since the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, no film has been more than 2 years apart, with X-Men: First Class coming 2 after X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and then The Wolverine coming 2 years after that, and now, X-Men: Days Of Future Past coming less than a year after that. Also for comparison, there's a new MCU-Avengers movie coming out every year, if not more than that.

This "rushed" production of X-Men 3 still led to a 3 year gap, and now you want Fox to sit around instead for 4 or 5 or 6 while Singer goes and does other stuff?

You mean to tell me you'd have been willing to wait until what ended up being the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, for X-Men 3? I doubt it. That would have been bogus for Fox to do. And they couldn't.

There's a 10 year gap between X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and due to date retconning, a 40 year gap between X-Men: Days Of Future Past and the original X-Men. There's 50 years worth of time for Magneto to help Xavier build Cerebro. Even if they don't specifically address it or show it in the films, the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.

And how about we tone down the rhetoric and find a better way of saying you didn't like X3?

That wasn't very nice, either. Let's respect each other's opinions, please. Even if we don't agree.

Also...can we not have this thread spiral into another argument over who's fault X3 was? We've been through this argument a million times now, and there's no need to rehash it again.

If you want to continue it, please take it to the OT board. Let's stay focused on DOFP here.

Thanks.

Since they never mentioned dates in the OT (the "not too distant future" was used) that isn't a ret-con. They have just let real time for us catch up with the OT's vague 'not too distant future' description, so now we know that X3 happened in 2013 (with X1 & 2 not too long before that).

The only obvious contradiction is Xaviers '15 years' thing for Logan and Origins (Logan getting the metal in the late 70's/early 80's and a teenage Scott at that time would be well into his 40's for the OT as well).

Not everything, only things are changed and have impact. If Xavier didn't use Cerebro in old timeline longer than this 11 years, then it would explode definitely. Something happened he started recruiting and using Cerebro in old timeline, so Magneto could help him to rebuild it there too.

Yep. It's definitely a contradiction.

However, I think sometimes it's a bit pointless to try and make the timeline line up. Singer himself has said the most important thing to him is telling a good story, not making sure all the movies line up perfectly, and that obviously applies not only to the films not directed by him, but his own films as well.

And let's be honest, the only people who notice the little inconsistencies are people like us. The general audience will never notice.

Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan did an interview promoting their Broadway show. It's in parts, but Part 4 they talk about XMen, why they took the roles, mention other co-stars, etc. - very interesting. In other parts Patrick talks about Star Trek for those interested.

If they did James would explode from geeky happiness, because he's like this huge Trek fan. He once said in an interview "I could cry right now talking about Star Trek".
