Not sure what you mean with inoffensive fluff.

I'd recommend you to just erase all the expectations you have and all the comments you've read (from both sides) and just watch the movie with an opened mind and see for youself. It's still an enjoyable film. My feelings after I had watched the movie was that it was fun, but very empty and "Disneyfied". Most people on these boards didn't have any problem with the amount of comedy, some of us did. I personally expect CBMs to be a bit more nuanced, but that's just my opinion.

So, don't listen too much to what people say before watching it yourself, that might ruin your experience. These are just opinions after all.

Imho the movie has weight but (for me) that weight is hampered with the over use of comedy.

I actually enjoyed the comedy in this one

2) Intern throws the keys into the portal and they don't return - Funny.

All visual gags that don't linger waiting for the audience to laugh. This is the type of humour I like rather than the one liners, wise cracks and people TRYING to be funny.

Marvel Studios really needs to dial back the humour before it grows tiresome for the general audience as well as the hard core fans. Comedy should just happen it shouldn't ever be forced.
These scenes expecially and the hammer going back and forth as Thor and Malekith teleported were very funny and generally creative.

Something that's bothering me slightly in the film, can anyone talk this through with me:

After Thor breaks Loki out, Loki asks for a weapon to defend himself. Thor apparently takes this seriously, and tells him no. Later, (we think) Thor gives him a dagger.

So am I to take from this that movie Loki can't use magic in an offensive way without a weapon like the Avengers sceptre? Instead only for defensive illusions and the like? How much has comics Loki used magic to attack others?

What do you think?

Nawww, I wouldn't call it that. It definitely has moments of intensity and darkness. But it doesn't linger on them long because the pace is frenetic.

Hmmmm...I have my reservations about the usage of comedy and how pervasive it is. I prefer my fantasy type films serious with a sprinkling of humor. I'm just getting the vibe instead of a serious Game Of Thrones level intense movie it's more similar to an SNL skit with the actors that has a bit of seriousness sprinkled in there to ruin the party. This uneven tone is what hampered my absolute enjoyment of Ironman 3. It just didn't have the same level of magic and awe the first one did. That and I expected to see more Ironman in a movie titled Ironman 3. If Thor: TDW is on the same level of quality I may like it but it won't be the amazing, epic experience I was hoping for. That will be reserved for the second Hobbit movie and X-Men: Days Future Past.

There are inconsistencies with comic Loki's powers and Movie Loki's powers.
In the comics Loki can magic weapons out of thin air, actually movie Loki has also shown this power by making the Casket of Ancient Winters appear out of thin air (to freeze Heimdale). So Loki asking for a weapon is nothing more than a plot contrivence.

I don't think Loki can magic random weapons. He can seemingly "hide" weapons he has. He has to go get the casket, have the scepter, etc.

Think of the scene in Germany in the Avengers. He turns the scepter into a cane.

That's correct. He's never conjured up a weapon that he didn't already have on him.

I wouldn't go so far as to compare it to an SNL skit, although moments with Selvig kind of play that way.

I will say this; while I feel that comedy aspects of the film are misplaced (especially in the back half of the film), taken individually, there's some really funny moments. If they were deleted scenes, I'd be more forgiven towards them.

It's just placement of them at their point in the story that's really the problem.

I don't know but if Kurse breaks into song that would take me right out of the movie.

P.S. I don't know why the Goblin King singing in The Hobbit part one worked for me though.

I didn't like that Thor was over matched with Kurse but then again comic Thor was also over matched with Kurse.

I'd really like to hear your motivations for that one. Should be interesting as right now it sounds like you've completely misunderstood one of them.

What? Brand recognition? You mean villainy as a brand? That doesn't mean that the Joker and Loki are similar, it just means they're both villains.

You're way off base, dude.

ok sorry ...before any interference...i just like to make sure that i mean the similarities of the scenes. in the movie he says ''i like that'' when sif slaps him... he sits on the floor in the same way just pretending he is voulnerable...he is the anthagonist of the main character and that, is chaos against control
