I'm not a fan of the conspiracy theories about Kubrick's movies, so dunno why the joke?
Knowing that Nolan is a huge fan of Kubrick's work, since he used both Mentmore towers(as Wayne Manor) and Rade Serbedzija(as the "nice coat guy"), the building and the actor had a big part in "Eyes wide shut". Also let's not talk about Matthew Modine's casting in TDKR, why do you think he got the part?

I just noticed TDK made the top 5 on IMDb's Top 250.
Oh, you just noticed this? When it was first released...it actually climbed to number 1. It held that spot for a good while. I remember seeing that and being in just utter disbelief.

But all the Godfather/Shawshank fans on IMDB got really pissed and rebelled by downvoting it. True story.

Yeah I just noticed this, since it dropped from #1 within a month of it's release in 2008.

I'm well aware of what happened on IMDb when it came out. It's been in the top 10 for the last 5 years, but only just went into the top 5 yesterday.

I always thought the Bank Robber mask was inspired from this myself,

Nolan does have a poster of the 1966 Batman movie in his home office, so that seems most likely. Not to mention Hathaway's Catwoman costume looked like Julie Newmar's.

God forbid that Nolan had more influence than just the 60's Batman show in his movies( especially from his all time favourite directors)...
Also it's the almost the same Pagliacci mask(check it for yourself), it's not like Romero's mask is an exact copy of the one from TDK.

Yup, that too. The "ears", the mask, the flowing hair, the belt, the gloves, the high heels, it was definitely inspired by the 60s Catwoman.

Still, the mask in The Killing doesn't really look "sad" which is typical with Pagliacci. The 60s mask has that frown look down to a tee, along with the Dark Knight Joker mask.

For me personally, I always saw it as a nod to the 60s show, just like Catwoman. It being a Kubrick reference could make sense too considering how fond he is of his work and the fact that it was a heist with the guns and mask no less. There's also the Clockwork Orange talk too. But still, I think I'd rather see a direct influence to something in the actual history of the Batman mythos before I would in another filmmakers work yet again. That's just me though. Who knows what Nolan was thinking, might have been Kubrick, might have been both?

I know personally when I first saw this back in 2007 I instantly thought "Romero Joker",

Then when that mask popped up, that was the real clincher.

Ah, I see. My mistake, it seemed as though you were saying this was the highest it had ever climbed. Now I get why you posted that.

And yeah as for The Joker's heist mask, I always took it as a pretty direct nod to the 60s show myself. But Nolan's certainly clever enough to simultaneously take inspiration from and pay homage to two different sources.

Same here. Although Heath Joker's look ended up becoming a beast of its own when we really got to see what it was.

That was fun. Then again, the guys at Cracked provide some very fun reads all the time.

I read that months ago, pretty funny. Pretty sure Cracked did a similar thing for TDK.

I think for TDK, it was just on how ridiculous Joker's plan was, and how it was a miracle that it went off without a hitch.

These were my favorites.

GARY OLDMAN
I had a speech prepared to talk about Aaron Eckhart, but then I realized it would be the film's third podium speech in less than nine minutes.

MICHAEL CAINE
Anne, I need you to deliva a meal to Master Bale. Though I could just do it myself, I'm goin' to give you strict instructions instead. Here's a key that I almost certainly shouldn't be givin' a stranger in a house wit' a secret superhero lair underneath it.

(really, why didn't Alfred just go up there and give Bruce that himself. I mean, he makes his bed for him doesn't he?)

JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT
I'm glad you're coming back. I know everyone blames you for Eckhart's death, but I know better, because Batman never kills!

CHRISTIAN BALE
Actually, I did kill Aaron Eckhart. People keep acting like I falsely took the blame for that, but it was the murder of cops that I took the blame for. I straight-up shoved Eckhart off a building and he fell to his death.

BAT-BALE
Grrgrll farggle raar!

ANNE HATHAWAY
Oh my, you kept the voice? Does Christopher Nolan just not have Internet access or something? Has nobody EVER done the "Bale-voice" in front of him?

BAT-BALE

You stole Christian Bale's fingerprints. I'm really, really concerned about him, which should not arouse any suspicion at all.

ANNE HATHAWAY
Christian Bale? The guy who went into seclusion the day you disappeared? And who made an appearance the morning you came out of retirement?

BAT-BALE
Uh ... yeah. You're not piecing things together, are you?

ANNE HATHAWAY
Miraculously, I am not. I wanted the fingerprints because a guy on Bale's board of directors said if I got them, he'd clear my criminal record.

TOM HARDY

At lasht, Liam Neeshon's plan will come to fruition! Even though Gotham ish basically fixed now, I will complete the plan to deshtroy it!

ANNE HATHAWAY

So the plot of the first movie, but less coherent this time?

BAT-BALE

So it comes to this, the epic match between two graduates of the world's most lethal ninja organization. Truly this battle will be a showcase of precision fighting techniques and tactical skills.

(swings wildly and grunts)

Grrggllrrr frrrraar!

Still don't get the confusion between Batman disappearing and Wayne going recluse. They were not at the same time. It's no wonder people feel the need to use expositional dialogue.

Wayne didn't become a recluse until 5 years into the Batman's retirement. I would guess that he kept going out in the public to A) keep it from being suspicious and B) to help fix Gotham by using his wealth as the Batman wasn't needed anymore.

Nah, it takes like two seconds to go upstairs and give your surrogate son (that wants to be left alone) his meal. Remember, it isn't even going all the way to his room, but outside of it. Alfred could have done it or did you forget that Alfred was pissed that people were using the main stairs up to near where Bruce was? Bruce even calls him out,

"One of the maids, perhaps you should stop letting them in this side of the house."

Which also indicates that this isn't the first time this has happened. Alfred must have been real obsessed with his master getting some that he sent in anonymous maids. Weird.

Maybe it's his way of trying to get hermit Bruce back on the saddle, so to speak.

You gotta wonder what was going through Bruce's mind turning all that down in memory of this,

The chick that wasn't even really interested in him and preffered District Attorney's (in both films). What ever happened to Natasha? She knew a thing or two about "democracy" and "justice" and was a freaking Russian ballerina! Should have called her up.

Damn Bruce, you so stupid.
