My midnight showing for Avengers was amazing
Everybody cheering and laughing and gasping at all the right times
When Coulson died, you could hear the sniffling start and the tears well up

Same for when I saw Iron Man 1 and TDK
It's a busy mess of a theater, but I love the local AMC
The only downside is its in the Garden State Plaza in NJ that just had the gunman walking around, so now everyone's a bit nervous about going there

Agreed. I don't want to start a flame war, but this is what separates the companies imo. Marvel is making comic book movies, while DC is making movies with comic book characters. The only comic booky moment I recall seeing in a Nolan film was in TDKR where they were sentencing people to death, and Scarecrow was sitting behind the huge desk. That was one of the funniest moments out of the trilogy for me.

Thor II was great btw. With the success of the movie financially, they need to put the focus solely on Thor and the Warriors Three, and get rid of the earth related scenes.

I was hoping that was the case with The Dark World but apparently I was wrong. I figured now that they got a lot of the boring earth scenes out of the way in the first film and with the trailer showing Jane in Asgard I figured the majority would have been in the other realms.

I'd edge it out to Hulk slamming Loki.

I saw the movie yesterday.
Is not a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination, but as a Thor movie.......it could have been a lot better.
It's basically an action movie with the God of Thunder.
I give it 7/10

I particularly liked two things:

- The most pointless character to ever grace a movie in the last couple of years. What is the point of Ian Boothby, the intern? Why the hell his he in the movie? And why the hell should anyone care? He is there for the sole reason of having a new character that are not the same ones as in Thor. That's just bad and lazy writing.

- I like the part where Heimdall talks with Thor in the tavern, takes his helmet and put it's on the table. Since the moment he takes his helmet off until he puts it on the table, if you notice Thor head movement, he can not take his eyes of the helmet, even for a few seconds after the helmet in already on the table, Thor can't just look away.
It's like he is thinking: WHERE IS MY ****ING HELMET?
AHAHAH...glorious.

They had a great opportunity to put him in his helmet during Frigga's space funeral but they couldn't even be bothered to do that. In the first Thor he wore it ceremonially, in TDW Odin wore his helmet during the space funeral.

This movie is filled with missed opportunities like this that can give life to the characters and the world if you can be bothered to utilize them.

60/100

Seen it. It was pretty awesome. I'm not really good at reviewing, but here goes:

-the only fault would be that Malekith's character is not really developed - didn't talk much, didn't have any cool lines, none of his motives explained etc.
-London was a nice change of scenery
-not a big deal, but I kinda preferred the previous actor as Fandral
-I missed the post-credits scene I tried to check if there's both the mid- and post-credits scene while trying to avoid spoilers, and only found the info about the mid-credits scene, so didn't stick around after the credits

9/10

A review from the Edmonton Sun:

Quote:
Thor brings the hammer down with a mighty blow in 'Thor: The Dark World.' For fans of Hollywood superhero movies, that is great news. This first Thor sequel is enormously entertaining.
The story is better than in the original 'Thor' from 2011. It focuses on battle action and epic upheavals more than it deals in romance and a damsel in distress (for a Thor tale, this is essential). Stealing elements from Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings, the movie grapples with god-matters more than human stuff, including war and politics. And it takes us away from Earth to spend more time in those far-flung regions where the ancient Norse gods and the dark demons live.
Even human heroine Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) gets to blast off with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) for a family meet-and-greet in Asgard. This displeases Thor's stern daddy Odin (Anthony Hopkins reprises the role, looking splendid again in his eyepatch). But Jane holds the key to unlock a shadowy mystery -- and many will die because of it. Even more will perish if Thor and company do not save the nine realms of their embattled universe.
'Thor: The Dark World' is well-made by director Alan Taylor (a veteran of Games of Thrones and The Sopranos). The movie looks great, especially in Asgard and the wastelands. The special effects are convincing. The 3D is generally worthwhile. Critically, the movie works equally well in the realistic sequences and in the fantastical ones.
Among story twists, Thor's brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) emerges as a major player again, with one foot in the hero camp and the other in step with villains. Hiddleston plays him like Satan, a fallen angel with an agenda, a bad attitude and a penchant for teasing Marvel superheroes. The even-badder guys are led by Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), the vengeance-seeking leader of the Dark Elves. They are, as Malekith's name suggests, malevolent neighbours.
As for our hero Thor, the character and Hemsworth's performance remain one-dimensional. He is still dull and less intelligent than Loki. But Thor is lovable. Jane Foster loves him, despite her two years of waiting. Hell hath no fury like an Earth woman scorned. Among many comedy moments peppered throughout, Portman gets to right some wrongs in the relationship.
The jokes are easy to digest. Not so the plot, which was concocted by a team of writers led by Christopher Yost (with a shout-out to the Marvel comic books created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby in the 1960s). You absolutely must pay close attention to the narration in the prologue. And to explanations offered both in Asgard, and back in London during investigations led by Jane Foster and her misfit friends. They include assistant Darcy (hilarious Kat Dennings) and mad scientist Erik (Stellan Skarsgard plays crazy with abandon). While some scientific details are head-scratchers, Darcy and the gang are fun to watch.
There are even stronger support players in Asgard, among them Idris Elba as the watchful god Heimdall, and long-lost Rene Russo as Frigga, Marvel's version of the Norse goddess. More critically, all will revel in Eccleston's powerful rendering of his dark lord. Every true hero needs an exceptional adversary and Thor has his in Malekith.

Wow the part about the story being better than the first Thor's and Malekith being an exceptional adversary was shocking to hear.

There are a few things reviewers have seen very differently, despite that I've read very little. For example some thought the plot is too straight forward while some others said that it's overly complicated. Always fun to see people react so differently.

The ONLY thing I can see so far being anything like confusing is the Thor/Malekith battle and Realm Jumping, and I bet those same people get confused watching any of the Highlander movies and tv shows with the flashbacks

maybe, I've heard from a few of the fans over seas in Germany that the Audience is quiet, before during and after a movie, heck alot of the times these days HERE there really isn't much of it either. Tho there is alot of laughing at the funny parts lol

Eh the plot was pretty much straight forward. This isn't the case of IM3, where that movie flew way over people's heads.
