Lol. I was indeed flattered by that, though I'm still bemused as to how they could have blown it up to look any good at that size

This one showed up somewhere:

Was it even printed on a poster and hanging outside a theater or something?

I remember that work designed by Wobbly. It was beautiful. I still have a copy of it on a disc somewhere.

*sigh*

Those were the days. We were so hopeful then.

There's been 3 attempts and I'm still waiting...
I get your point. But I think that MBJ is already locked as Johhny . I agree with you about Miles Teller, the guy looks younger than any other actor suggested for this film (Reed as the youngest of the team is a bad idea).

You should've gotten PAID!!

Remember how we would say it was a crying shame that your posters looked better than anything FOX's marketing department was producing? And at least your interpretation of Sue Storm wasn't a contortionist.

I think so. It was in Brazil or somewhere like that? Someone posted a photo of it back then iirc (might still be in the old threads?)

Hopefully that was when you were auditioning with Netflix for Luke Cage - which would put their casting WAY ahead of FF.

Agreed.

WITHOUT invoking the 'they don't look the part' card, would people please explain what, exactly, is wrong with the rumored 'frontrunners' for Reed, Sue, and Ben?

None of them exude the embodiment of the characters.

While I prefer to wait until we have an actual cast before commenting, I will say that Miles Teller is completely wrong for Reed in nearly every way.

Miles is a nice, likable everyman. We can see ourselves hanging out with him. He seems fun and funny - just like one of our friends.

Reed isn't a likable everyman. He's exceptional. He's strong, confident, a bit arrogant and an a**hole at times. He's a little bit scary and intimidating - he's smarter than us and we and he know it. We wouldn't want to hang out and socialize with him, but he's a leader and a doer and we sure would want him around if trouble was brewing.

^ Seriously? These people are ACTORS.

I asked for some LEGITIMATE reasons why these rumored frontrunners are wrong for the roles, and am still waiting.

Oh come on. Have you ever read an FF comic book? Are you implying any actor can play any role? Ridiculous.

Always saw Reed as a combination scientist and sort of a two-fisted, man's man pulp adventurer type. Like a stretchier Doc Samson.

Which means casting sweet, adorable people barely out of their teens is a no go, imo.

Exactly. But we don't have to get actors that actually fit the roles. Let's get Patton Oswald. He's a professional actor, so he can pull it off.

Nothing is legitimate to you. Your mind is already made up

You severely underestimate the power of perception based on appearance.

Yes they're actors... But lets not kid ourselves. Most actors are not chameleons there's very few with that talent. The cast so far is nowhere near fitting that bill

You'd make a valid point if this were a film based on a novel where the reader can often interpret a characters appearance their own way thus it does not need to be specific. But when you're dealing with iconic characters who can be identified by their looks alone.... Then yes appearance is very important.

Kate Mara for example has a pretty specific look for a woman. And its not a charming or warm look or vibe she gives off. She can always play the edgy girl, the crazy ex gf, the loner , the tough girl, the ice queen

What she can't pull off is the warm and nurturing persona sue is...

I've seen Kate in several roles and she's very talented and Im a fan. But she's completely wrong for sue storm

Maybe they can lure Shia LeBeef back from exile. He's an ACTOR. That's LEGITIMATE.

And they're going to play the characters as they're written in the script (and as the director envision them).

I've not made up my mind about anything.

As for 'legitimate' reasons, I can think of several off the top of my head as to why a particular actor might not be right for a given role:
* The actor in question doesn't have the 'gravitas' for the role in question
* The role in question legitimately requires an actor of a certain age, gender, or ethnicity and the actor in question does not fit those criteria
* The role in question has been 'earmarked' for actors with a certain level of experience that the actor in question doesn't yet have

You do realise "gravitas" and "vibe" are the same damn thing right?
