Out of the Furnace

Tragic unforseen occurences lead to bleak paths that are life altering in Out of the Furnace.
The performances in this backwoods tale of murder, revenge, and heartbreak are outstanding.
The pain of the characters leapt off the screen and hit me like a brick.
Director Scott Cooper displays his ability to capture life changing moments when characters realize
their lives will never be the same.

OOTF may need some trimming around the edges and tweaks here and there, but i will be shocked
if this film doesnt receive multiple acting nominations.

Scale of 1-10 an 8

The Wolverine (Unleashed)

Just finished this. Still a little bit cheesed off I had to get the 3D version (would it really have mattered to make it either a separate release or on the regular blu?) but it was really good! It didn't radically change the film or anything, but I quite liked it just as much as I did the first time I saw it.

9/10

'Monsters University'

I missed this one at the theaters. A great movie with lots of heart, humor, and character moments. Not as good as Monsters Inc. though.

Parkland

A pretty intense look on JFK's assassination in a different perspective from the Parkland hospital to the secret service. There was some good performances but Paul Giamatti as Zapruder pretty much stole the show. It's not a perfect film but it's definitely a film you can see in classrooms.
8/10

Hunger Games: Catching Fire

A much better sequel than the first film that I kinda disliked. The story was well developed and the characters had better depth than before. I like how they explored more of the world instead of focusing primarily on the love triangle. I will say that Jenna Malone was my favorite character in the movie, definitely had more charisma than anyone there playing the games.
8.5/10

The Act of Killing

A raw and powerful documentary on these mass murderers from Indonesia. It follows them years after the massacres and finds a way to show their emotional state. It's just a wonder on its own to see how this film was made. There was different perspectives from all the murderers on what was justified and how they've dealt with what they did. The end of the documentary was just chilling, that's all I have to say.

Boston Strangler (Richard Fleischer).

As long as the film focus on the mystery/police procedure surrounding the crimes of th Boston Strangler , it's pretty good. But then it shifts completely to the point of view of the criminal , and it looses a lot of steam. Some cool editing techniques (splitting was very much a trend in that period) , pretty effective in the depiction of the crimes , and even in the 2nd part in the interrogation between Henry Fonda and Tony Curtis , but sorta nauseating and extremely kitsch in some others parts. Fleischer was too in-loved for the splitting.

The Family

Not bad for a Luc Besson film. It has a familiar feel to it and story is predictable, but the chemistry between everyone is what made it work. I did love that little Goodfellas easter egg and it was nice seeing Michelle Pfeiffer act again.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Extended Edition)

Love all the new scenes.
