Inless GA shocks me no matter how good DOFP Is it's doudtful It reachs Iron Man,The AVengers,SPider-man trilogy,Dakr Knight and dark Knight rises levels.

Maybe it can surprise people and reach Amazing SPider-man or man of steel levels

The filmakers behind DOFP first said it so you will also have to argue with them.
But none of us know what you're going on about anymore...

Then why have X-Men movies at some point made more then Batman, Superman, Captain America and Thor? X2 and X3 domestic adjusted made pretty much 300m. Very few films can get there.

The quality of the films speak for themselves. After X2 the X-Men were making plenty of cash. You can't expect a franchise to make 1 billion just because of a name. The characters, scope, marketing, quality and planning all come into play here for the film franchise. X-Men is one of the largest franchises out there and very well known as one of Marvel's big guns. Its always had the potential to reach higher box office wise. Other things got in the way.

I saw The Wolverine last summer with a group of summer camp kids who were jumping up and down and cheering at the mid-credits scene. Most of those kids are younger than the first movie.

Yeah, I had a solid reaction as well. These characters are huge and timeless.

The filmmakers themselves have called X-Men bastard stepchildren of comic book characters.

Even adjusting for inflations the numbers for X2 and Last Stand don't match the iron man films or the Spider-man trilogy much less the avengers or the Dark Knight/The Dark Knight rises.

after awhile keep using the last Stand or origins as excuses don't work.

People were very critical for Die Another day.It didn't hurt casino royale at all.Skyfall wasn't hurt by heavy critism to QOS

Many were critical of iron Man 2.It didn't affect the avengers or Iron Man 3 at all.

In 2005 Batman Begins made 205 million. Batman & Robin didn't hurt it at all. Prior to dark knight that was second highest grossing batman film without adjusting for inflation.

The online hate for Superman returns didn't hurt Man of steel at all.

Some might use the bastard stepchildren to desribe First class being third highest grossing comic book film of 2011 and the WOlverine 4th highest grossing comic book film of 2013.

I am sure the GA reaction was why they made the bastard stepchild comment.

When it comes to popularity they are very mistaken. Just cause a filmmaker said it doesn't mean it's true.

Your downplaying X-Men to a ridiculous amount and just wrong here.

Why would it? Iron Man 2 was received better then X3 and Origins. Even critically. Plus there were a few other characters and first time crossover coming into play in Avengers that kind of mattered.

How much did Batman Begins open with? 48m right? That's not Batman opning week numbers. Wom got that one back on track.

And you didn't answer my question. How come X3 made more then those films I mentioned if they are nothing compared to them?

Even If DOFP has great reception it Is questable about reaching the event
status of the Avengers,The Dark Knight,The dark Knight rises,Spider-man,and
Iron Man 3. Or even the 300 million plus domestic grosses Iron Man,Iron Man 2,SPider-man 2,and Spider-man 3.

The franchise is rebuilding itself for the future. That includes box office. Why are you not getting this?

Yeah, I mean skyfall made 1.1 billion who saw that coming? Of course I'm not saying dofp will do the same but we shouldn't sell it short.

In relation to the box office numbers then yeah I guess it is a bit of a stepchild not receiving the same numbers as all the others but around the time the films were coming out those numbers were still pretty high, Unfotunatley they did take a knock which is why I am guessing fox was hesitant with first class and the wolverine, but I think being hesitant paid off for that reason. It managed to build up the franchise again without costing too much, DOFP is the film that can get the x-men back with the big bucks. as for singers comments about people not knowing wolverine as much as hulk or iron man. In the 90's he was one of THE most popular characters which is why they used him as the protagonist so I don't really understand why he said that. :S Thats why I guess its more about the financial figures starting after Ironman 1

I seriously have no idea how you guys are saying this. It's a terrible way of describing it. It grossed more then Batman Begins and Superman Returns during the time. If it's a bastard stepchild then what's F4, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Blade etc to Marvel?

You can't relate Marvels current uprising right now cause of the number of films they have put out in 7 years consitantly. It's very different. This franchise isn't fully back yet because of it's new casting with FC.

X-Men is in the big leagues. It's just not number #1 all the time. Nothing wrong with that. Just like the comics or any other form of media. There are so many things to take in account with this franchise.

Well Marvel studios Is mostly Avengers studios. GOTG Is their first non avengers related film. Daredevil and others instead of film are being given the netflix treatment. That says like WB with characters not batman or superman who much they value them.

Let's talk when MS does something with ghost rider and Blade.

Commenting on Singer's comments Is turning this into one of most active threads.

So this is the Magazine thread yes?

When is that Entertainment Weekly issue coming out? I went to look for the magazine here but couldn't find a copy.

And anyone in North America find that Total Film issue yet?

Yeah lets see how much that won't work for those characters in terms of storytelling and success.

X-Men would be lucky to grab a deal like that.

X-Men has too many characters and TV/cable would benefit it the most out of any other media format. Given the right budget and direction it could be amazing. Topic for another thread though, so agree to disagree.

Singer says. “I call X-Men the bastard stepchild of the comic universes.”
I hardly agree with this. Its not like the public neglected the X-Men. If I remember X-Men vol.2 #1 is still the most selling comic-book of all time.

Just because the last few X-Men movies were outgrossed by Spidey, MCU and DC films, it doesn't mean X-Men is suddenly the bastard stepchild of the "comic-book" universe. Because if it is the bastard stepchild of the comic-book universe, how do you describe Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Blade, Ghost Rider, etc...

Think you mean "I hardly agree". But yeah, that's what I said haha.

Your right, X-Men #1 is pretty much the highest selling comic. X-Force #1 is up there as well.

Anyone subscribed to Entertainment Weekly on the Ipad/Android? Apparently you can access this issue now! Maybe there's new pics on there?
