Default Batman 89 vs The Avengers

Since The Dark Knight has done enough battle with these two, I figured I'd put them up against each other.

Stuff i don't like in Batman like the Joker being his parents killer, but it's still a much richer film, both in terms of plot and visually

I like The Avengers, it's a cool movie, but I think Batman has got more artistic merit.

IMO, The Avengers is the greatest comic book movie of all time. That being said, Batman 89 is still a very good movie, but not on the level of The Dark Knight Trilogy.

This seems much more of a fair comparison than The Avengers facing off against any one of the The Dark Knight Trilogy films.

Both Batman '89 and The Avengers feel like popcorn movies with decent plot. Not good, but decent. It's really hard to decide between two almost evenly matched films. I will need time to think.

Gotta disagree with that

I enjoy Batman 89 and Avengers more than Nolan's Bat-universe.

They are more than popcorn films to me. They're comic books come to life. TDKT outside the Joker is nothing special IMO. I find them dreary and overrated.

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight also felt to me like comic books coming to life, Begins felt to me a lot like 90s Batman comics, while The Dark Knight was very true to the Joker's roots and many ther great Batman stories

I don't really like either, but Batman at least feels to me like there is an actual director behind it with a vision (I don't like that vision for the most part, but there is one there), compared to The Avengers, which feels to me like a studio-driven product instead of a film.

I agree with this. Batman feels much more personal where the Avengers doesn't really feel like any director has his stamp on it.

Personally, I don't look for these films being "comic book brought to life". To me, that sounds like an excuse to cover up their flaws and lackluster stories in favor of it just looking like a comic book with superheroes in it. What I look for in every movie is a good story, good characters, good visual, and good music to immerse me in the movies. Neither film does that for me, but I still feel they do enough the be considered good movies. Not great, but good.

When I say it's a comic book come to life it's not a cover. Avengers gets the team up aspects from the comics pitch perfect. Batman 89 gets the urban myth and contrast between Batman and the Joker pitch perfect.

They aren't The Godfather dramatically but lets be honest, neither is TDKT.

I partially agree with you about the Avengers, but I disgree about the contrast between Batman and Joker in Batman. It felt a bit under-developed and a few decisions to make their character interactions feel more personal came of cheap to me.

Maybe it's a bit of nostalgia but I'm totally opposite on Batman 89's Joker.

A perfect combo of devilish charm, icy coldness and wild, memorable theatrics.

"Love that Joker".

Avengers is a fun movie, and I admit liking Iron Man more than Batman as a character
Avengers win if we count villains only

Weird comparison, but Batman 89 all the way. I think it will have more historical significance in the long run. Also, The Avengers is extremely forgettable and disposable IMO. Once the jokes wear off, there really isn't much to that film.

I really enjoyed Avengers but Batman 89 is the one that started it all for me, and my favorite movie of all time so I would have to say Batman takes the cake for me.

huh? You think Jack Nicholson's Joker wasn't as good as Loki? Funny how it's only on the internet that i see people liking Loki, around here i don't know anybody who likes him and some of the reviews of the film talked about the villain being one of the weakest parts of it. I don't know how the situation is in the USA though.

I dig Loki in the solo movies but i thought he was an awful villain choice for Avengers. He came off as a joke in the hands of Whedon. It seems like he didn't know how to handle any of the Thor characters properly. Loki was the cornball villain who gets his ass handed to him by 1 member of the team. A proper villain in a team-up should be a huge threat to any individual member AND still be a threat when the team of good guys try to go up against him all at once.
