Just an FYI... Annual #9 is 40 pages long while the original story in Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine #2 was 58 pages long... so you are going to be missing "some" stuff...

try and pick up Spectacular #2... reading it in King-Size form just doesn't have the same feel or magic as the original... besides the size differences of the books, you're getting a revised version of the story and NOT the original storyline...

For the record, pages 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 17, 21, half of 22, 23, 24, half of 25, 27, 28, 29, 33, and 36 from Spectacular Spider-Man #2 are NOT in Spider-Man King-Size. Double page spreads on pages 1 and 2 as well as pages 45 and 46 are reduced in the reprint to one page. New captions have been inserted to smooth over the missing pages...

and one last thing, compare the covers of both books and you'll see the difference...

don't deprive yourself of the real deal...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Oh, well. The other is magazine size, correct? At least this fits better with the comic collection. Well, the price wasn't bad.

yeah, the original Spectacular #2 is of a larger, magazine-type size than a comic... it's definitely a noticeable difference, as you'll see when and if you pick up on it... I'd recommend it, whatever price you'll pay for it has GOTTA be worth it... I remember when the King-Size reprint first came out and I picked it up and took a look inside, I just went "WTF?!?"... five years after the Spectacular came out, I STILL remembered what it contained and seeing the massive amount of stuff eliminated from the reprint made me feel pretty disgusted... I always thought it was a sh**ty decision by Marvel to pull a stunt like that on such a massive scale... I felt the same way when they butchered and reworked the first Spectacular magazine into the filler pieces of crap that became Amazing Spider-Man #116-118... in both instances, Marvel was pretty shameful in doing what they did with those two Spectaculars just a few short years later...

I once saw the original magazine in an antique shop for well over $100. Can't remember the exact price.

Spider-Man Marvel MasterWorks Volume 7 has the entire 58 page story, and it fits into the current continuity (after ASM #66 - in this issue of ASM, we see Norman holding his GG mask)...

I read it in Essential Spider-Man, which was fine. Just in black and white though.

Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine #2 has only been reprinted in its entirety twice...

Once in Spider-Man Marvel MasterWorks #7
And in 1988, in Spider-Man Comics Magazine Digest #12

What some people may not know is that this is the first appearance of the Green Goblin since ASM #39/40... and truthfully, the second of only four when we knew his identity... the third being the drug issues of ASM #96/97/98 and the death of Gwen issues.

The full comic book is printed in Essential Spider-Man vol. 3 (possibly volume 4) as "Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine #2."

I think the cover to Annual #9 is printed in a later Essential book and contains some of the extra features.

This is new... the first two editions of Essential Spider-Man #3 did not contain SpecSMMagazine #2, but they'e since added it in the third edition.

They've also moved some issues and Annual #4 around to make room...

I believe I have the latest edition of the Essential book. It does get confusing hehe.

I bought the 11 volumes of Essential Spider-Man (cheapest way to read so many Spider-Man comics), but is there a volume 12 coming out? Otherwise, what should I do to continue reading Spider-Man comics? I could buy individual trade paperbacks I suppose. I think the ones that continue immediately from Essential vol. 11 is:

The Essentials (at the least the Amazing Spider-Man books) have been released one per year... so #12 will probably be out some time this spring/summer.

Essential Spider-Man volume 11 came out in June 2012. Volume 12 should have come out months ago…

Just read the first few issues with Hobgoblin. Really good stuff.

Roger Stern is such a good writer.

I just read "TASM #246." One of the funniest Spider-Man comics that I've ever read.
