Exactly. It may have to take the Avengers to join forces with the Guardians, Scott Lang and whoever else they debut in Phase 3 to defeat Thanos but he's going to be the main bad guy in Avengers 3.

So, I just saw this news. Batman vs. Superman has been delayed to May 6th 2016, which conveniently coincides exactly with Marvel's untitled 2016 release date. I've been assuming that slot would be Thor 3, and that seems even likelier now. We may well get to see Thor & Loki go head to head against Batman & Supes. How exciting! (My money's on Marvel)

Eh, I think Marvel will move the date.

Marvel will move the date for sure. Question now becomes, will they move it to April (ala Captain America: The Winter Soldier), or will they go to July for the 1st movie and November for the 2nd (ala Thor: The Dark World)?

I think that will depend on Cap 2's BO numbers. If Cap 2 does better than Thor, I see them taking that early April spot again.

How is your money on Thor (who couldn't beat Superman alone for BO Gross) beating Superman and Batman? Marvel is going to exit that date rather quickly.

Agreed. Also, there isn't even a guarantee that Thor 3 was that intended May 2016 film! It could easily be Hulk 2 or Cap 3 (I'd put money on it being a sequel...given their sequels tend to come 1st in the year).

If I were Marvel, I wouldn't flinch and move the date just yet. DC just threw that date out there, but who knows if it will change again? I'd wait and see how things shake out.

Its interesting given that DC has moved Superman vs Batman as the same date as Marvel movie on May 6 2016...

When i first hear that, my first thought is "Wow...It's a direct challenge from DC".

Does Marvel really have the balls to take that showdown and keep the already confirmed release date? And if it does, Its interesting to see what movie that Marvel are going to put on that same day as Superman/Batman. The possibilities are Dr.Strange, Thor 3, or Cap 3..or even Black Panther...

Speaking of the same date (or close)...this year alone, at least here in Japan...in the first 5 month of the year until May, we are going to have 4 Marvel movies, each has close release date (Cap 2 and Spidey 2 only has 6 days gap!!)

Thor: The Dark World on February 1st
Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 19th
Amazing Spider-Man 2 on April 25th
X-MEN: Days of Future Past on May 24th

And for Guardians of tha Galaxy, it still in a "To be confirmed" release
(I just hope its not getting push back to 2015 just like Thor 2 got pushed back to 2014 here)

Somebody will move. Not moving is a lose/lose for both studios.

This. Hollywood avoids direct competition..if all 7 major studios could figure out a grid where all of their movies were guaranteed to be successful, they'd do it. Right now WB is just jockeying for Marvel's date. It's a pissing contest.

Marvel's 2016 slate is going to be... weak, to say the least. They have nothing that will contend with X-Men, Spidey, and a BvS (assuming ASM 2 and DoFP do the estimated ball park figures). Thor 3 is probably looking at May 2017. You can also push Cap 3 to that July. Looks for off peak releases for Dr. Strange (March or April 2016) and Panther (November 2016) if anything. Of course we are assuming no further delays to BvS (anything is possible). X-Men typically waits three years and those big stars may need a break, so Apocalypse could get shoved back for something like ID4 in July 2016 (which Fox/Emmerich are pretty keen on). I see Avengers 3 mid July 2018.

I think that will depend on Cap 2's BO numbers. If Cap 2 does better than Thor, I see them taking that early April spot again.
I suspect that Cap 2's numbers will be much better than Thor 2's, and thus, they'll conclude that April is the superior date... even though the quality of Thor 2 was questionable. Ugh.

I'd like to see Dr. Strange and Black Panther in the mix, along with Cap 3, Thor 3, GOTG2 and of course Ant-Man.

I love Hulk, but him being a SHIELD asset is redundant, and Planet Hulk is practically unfilmable and certainly not profitable enough to justify an Avatar-sized budget. Inhumans, awesome as they are, can wait, honestly. They aren't actually needed. Have them an Captain Marvel come in as the new properties for Phase 4 or something. Bring back Hulk and Iron Man and maybe let Thor and/or Cap rest, depending on who needs to introduce a new actor.

Cap does look better than Thor, but I can't see it doing significantly better. Probably looking to top out at 650ish, 700 best case scenario. It will depend on the reviews. I agree Hulk is probably done as far as solo films and Ruffalo won't be a cheap actor to retain. Phase 4 will probably be more cosmic stuff and Inhumans, and they will move away from the core Avengers. Save GotG 2 for PIV and go from there, into maybe Kree/Skrulls, Captain Mar-Vell, etc.

I doubt they'll move away from the core Avengers. That's still they're bread and butter. Unless Cap 3 and Thor 3 bomb while new properties soar, we'll see Cap 4 and Thor 4 along with Iron Man 4 and Avengers 4.

If Thanos is the 'Sauron' of the first Avengers trilogy, then I would suggest they use Kang for the second one, and therein, open the door for tons of great stuff, flashbacks and revisitations and crossovers.

Skrulls are with the Fantastic Four franchise rights, that's why the Chitauri from the Ultimates comics were used in Avengers instead.

I'm still hoping the Fantastic Four falls out of Fox's hands and can be included in the next Marvel phase :P

That's not quite true. It's more like the situation with Maximoffs -- Feige has said that both studios can use them, but Marvel Studios can't use the Super Skrull. They didn't use Skrulls in Avengers because Whedon didn't want to introduce shape-shifters in the first Avenger film, which already had enough other things going on.

I'd much rather FF stay with Fox rather than not have a Dr. Strange or Black Panther movie or push back Avengers 3. I'd much rather see some cool overlooked heroes than a better version of movies we've already seen.
