I've *never* seen the almighty HYPE in a thread before, and to just jump in here to pronounce a one-word "NOPE".....by god, I'm happy to take that as gospel truth then.

Yeah lets not run people out of here. Though including a film (DOFP) that hasnt even been released yet doesnt make much sense given the "positive reception" comment. Jumping the gun, to say the least.

But I think we can afford to be magnanimous and open given our good fortune vis a vis the MCU - even with the Fox fanboys. As long as they behave lol.

edit: Take me with you Hype! I'm ready!

Marvel Studios deserves a lot of credit, because they could have easily said "we're not going to make Ant Man, we're going to go a different direction" but they chose not to. They allowed Edgar Wright to do other things first.

The issue was that he made the mistake in thinking that Ant Man was conceived and announced after X-Men First Class was announced. A little bit of research would have proven that wasn't true. I thought the same thing when Ant Man was first officially announced last year, over Black Panther or Captain Marvel and then I researched and found out that it had been in the works since 2006, which made sense.

It was a post that was a mistake due to lack of research. I'm sure he's not going to make that mistake again.

How will Ant-Man perform at BO next to mega projects like Avengers and "World's Finest"?

If it can pull in close to 400 million, Marvel will probably consider that a success. Assuming they can keep the budget in the 150m range. Its a completely new property, with a concept that requires some salesmanship. And Rudd, though a very charming fellow, isnt RDJ. Somewhat modest goals are in order.

Personally, if the movie is actually good, if its a solid addition to both the MCU stable AND the Edgar Wright oeuvre, and if it makes at least 300 mil, I'm calling that a success.

If it makes CA:TFA numbers (170 dom/370 ww), that should be perfectly acceptable for Marvel

It was mentioned when Michael Pena's character was revealed that Ant Man doesn't have a strong rogue's gallery of baddies, which is why Castillo is a made up character.

Is that true?

That's because Ant-Man wasn't much of a solo superhero at all.

This is why making a solo movie out of what is essentially an ensemble character (i.e., an iconic Avenger) was baffling from day one. Ant-Man's "solo career" consists of 12 sporadic appearances in short stories in an old Marvel anthology, "Tales To Astonish," from 1962-1963. Then, when The Avengers was created in 1963, Stan thought Hank and Janet would be a good fit for these two outliers, and the rest is Avenger history.

So no, he never had time to develop a "rogues gallery," because he was technically never a solo superhero.

I think we're forgetting a little individual known as Egghead.

Doesn't sound like he's "made up" per se. He's based off of Fidel Castro.

i wouldn't count he or Darren Agonistes Cross as "big." but they are certainly adapatable. i wanted a new and improved A.I.M as the villains. but it looks like Wright is going the political intrigue route.

Now with Michael Douglas in the film, there are now different ways to connect to the MCU. Like perhaps Pym was a friend of Howard Stark. Or when he was Ant-Man in the 1960's Pym was aided on his missions by the Howling Commandos (we need to see more of them in the MCU).

i'm imagining elder Stark or the President having a much younger more naive Ant-Man investigate prominent figures for communist ties.

So Elder Stark played by Dominic Cooper but aged 20 years? Or do they bring back John Slattery and de-age him 20 years?

Doctor Nemesis (Michael Stockton) uses Pym particles if Edgar wants a villain with the same powers who used to be a member of AIM.

He fought aliens, giant robots, alternate dimensional beings communist spies/assassins, mobsters, Mandarin's apprentice, genetically enhanced intelligent gorillas, dictators, giant insects and other wacky silver age stuff in the 60's.

In terms of supervillains of terms I would say Pym's top three outside of Ultron and Egghead were Whirlwind, Black Knight, Dr Nemesis (Michael Stockton) version. Because Pym hasn't had a ongoing solo comic since the 60's he hasn't really developed much of a solo rogues gallery. Even the villains I've listed he has shared with other heroes or became general Avengers villains.
