Default X-Men Live-Action TV Show in Development at Fox

Quote:
Bleeding Cool’s Hollywood sources (which also brought you the news that Warners were shipping round a Supergirl series – though we did get the producer wrong) have just landed us a massive trout, flapping around on the Bleeding Cool deck.

That Fox are currently in deep development on a live-action X-Men TV show. And are starting to get interest in that as well. Which is how it leaked to us.

No details whatsoever. And right now, no way of getting any. Hopefully, as a result of this article, someone like Deadline will do the heavy lifting.

Or maybe someone will mention it at NYCC? We’ll keep our ears open.

Awesome if true, it's the perfect form of media for X-Men.

Doesn't Marvel/Disney have the live action TV rights?

Also, wouldn't Gotham being on the same network be a "conflict of interest?"

Don't see why. If they can make Gotham they should be able to make X-Men, but I get mixed up with all those details.

I'm guessing it's X-Factor.

I am of the opinion that Fox added Gotham because they could not do an X-Men TV series. Marvel from what I can recall has the live action TV rights.

I think it would be a conflict of interest because of DC vs. Marvel.

Don't think it would work like that though. WB doesn't own the channel or anything. Would think Fox can put any show they want on there.

Still, the fact that Marvel owns the live action TV rights makes me doubt this rumor.

If they could make live action X-Men shows wouldn't they be doing that themselves though? Think Fox own the live action rights.

I believe Marvel actually got in trouble for the show Mutant X.

If that happens, there will be a few people saying "wait, Fox has brought back that singing talent show judged by Simon Cowell?"

They can call it something else. The investigation aspect of that book lends itself to TV. They can make it like a mutant Fringe.

Then if that's true, it could be really interesting.

However, I think the TV market is oversaturated with Superhero/CB TV shows right now.

Really had a strong inclination they would go this route. My guess is it will be some type of Sarah Conner Chronicles set in the late 80's or early 90's following Apocalypse. They will cast different actors than the movies in all likelyhood, unless they cast Jean/Cyke/Storm in APocalypse with the intent of a TV show revolving around them some time down the road, which is a good plan IMO.

Well, one positive is that Jeph Loeb would not be involved.

I think that X-Factor or New Mutants/Generation X would be the best choices. They'd probably work better as ongoing TV shows than films anyway, given their setup.

Yeah, going the younger student route would also be a good choice. Lot of options.

Because of Fox's history with shows, if such a show were to be announced, it has to be a hit in the rating right away and remain steady throughout the season.

They can put it after or before Gotham if it holds as good as it is. Have a comic block. That would be pretty awesome.

Awesome TV news today. Was already stoked for Twin Peaks coming back.

Somebody from a site called eatgeekplay is now saying it will be based on PAD's X-Factor.

That would require shifting Gotham to another day unless they either cancel Sleepy Hollow or move Sleepy to another day.

According to the docket for the U.S. Court of Appeals in the Mutant X lawsuit, neither FOX nor Marvel held the live action TV rights in full:

The agreement reserved all television rights to marvel, subject to a proviso, critical to Fox's pending contract claim, that Marvel would not produce, distribute or exploit or authorize the production, distribution or exploitation of any "live action motion picture" without Fox's consent.

So one of two thing must have happened for this rumor to be true:

1) Marvel relinquished X-Men live action TV rights as part of the Mutant X lawsuit settlement or.....
2) Fox is preparing to cut a deal with Disney/Marvel (FF rights? Star Wars distribution?) in order to get this show on air.

Okay, since the cats out of the bag...Fox is developing a TV show based on Peter David's X-Factor.

I don't think Marvel owns the tv rights.

I think Fox owns the X-men and all those associated. The Mutant X tv was using mutants and I think Fox objected to it(ala Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch being non-Mutants in Avengers).

I think Fox can make a tv show based on it's X-men rights but they have to share profits with Marvel/Disney.
